I have a tournament coming up in a couple of months and I am soon going to get a Wraithknight. My question is should I invest time and money (Which I don't have buckets of) on trying to magnetise it (Which I have never attempted before) or should I just glue on the options that I want? (Which is the Heavy Wraithcannons)

Magnetizing a Wraithknight isn't that complicated and it's better than just building it if you're planning on just buying the one; at minimum you'd need wrists and the forearm gun attachment point (I magnetized the shoulders in mine as well so I could take the arms off for transport).

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Step one: Buy Wraithknight
Step two: Light on fire
Step....

All joking aside, magnetizing is not that expensive, nor is it terribly time consuming. And when you want to try something else, its ready to go.

I'm currently building mine - he just needs based and painted.

I've fully (over) magnitized him - waist, head. all 4 arms, all 3 guns and the shoulder guns. You don't need to go that crazy but I love it and would highly recommend it.

For a £70 model its totally worth spending a few quid on the magnets and drill bits.

I used 5mm magnets for the waist and arms, 3mm for the guns, wrists and head, and 2mm for the shoulder mounts (got them all on ebay along with the drill bits). Excluding the 2mms which are more expensive you are talking under 15 quid and then you just need a battery powered hand drill.

It's actually fairly easy to magnetize the knight.
It comes with 4 arms, so you're able to set one up with sword, one with shield, and two with the cannons. Set one cannon with the barrel magnetized so that you can swap out between the two guns.

There are two pods that you can put on the shoulders and magnetize so that you can swap out the other weapons.

If you get it planned out and set up it'll honestly take about 20 minutes to cut the pieces, set the magnets, and wait for everything to dry. You won't regret it because it'll leave every combination open to you.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

@Savageconvoy - good tip!

Also, magnetizing the arms makes the model much easier to transport.

Wondering what type of drill to get to magnetise.

I use a cheap cordless one you could get from homebase or Amazon or anywhere. You need to be quite carful when drilling some bits tuat you don't go to far so the low powered cordless ones are perfect for that; corded or hobby drills are often too powerful or fast for delicate modelling..

My memory is a bit foggy, but I don't remember having to do much drilling.

The arms I was able to simple cut and sand until the magnet fit.
I do remember drilling the shoulders on the torso, I used a smaller drill and then sanded the hole until it had a tight fit for the magnets, and used greenstuff as a bit of support inside the torso.

The gun barrels were a bit harder, but not too difficult. The body of the cannons I believe just needed some minor sanding to get a snug fit.

One of our local players over magnitized a pair of Carifexes, he got from the Death Storm boxes a few months ago. If he starts talking too much smack, I bang my hand on the table hard and his two Canifexes fall to pieces.

He hates hit, but everyone else thinks it's pretty funny.

I didn't magnetize because I really don't see a reason to run anything but heavy wraithcannons. Maybe the shoulder weapons so you can run without them or swap them around.

In 4 to 6 years, Eldar will get a new Codex, and the Wraithknight may have a new "best" configuration. What then?

4-6 years? That's being a bit overly optimistic. I would guess 1-2 years.

I dunno. They need to redo WFB and the rest of the 40k universe. And they're exploring all the niches with new Codices. Expect Codex: Imperial Assassins, Codex: Tau Kroot Hunters, Codex: Genestealer Cults, etc. Maybe even a Sisters book. Lots of niches to explore.

7th was 22 months after 6th. Eldar was barely 2 years old. Tau and SM will be replaced by fall, less than 3 years old. Imperial Knights book is being replaced at 13~ months. I'm sensing a pattern here...

No drills! Pin Vise! Minis are fragile. You don't need MOAR POWAH!!!

This is all you need.

I didn't drill mine at all. If memory serves, there are pieces in the arm sockets of the torso that are used to glue the arms onto.

I used greenstuff (sparingly, just to form around the magnets) to place a magnet in each of the 4 arms (making sure that all magnets had the same polarity).

Then I cut down the piece where the arms fit onto and greenstuffed magnets there. Note: you need to use the set of arms with bent elbows for the Wraithcannons, otherwise the weight will make them fall.

Those try my patience, I just run the drill in reverse with the larger bits which gives you a very slow and controlled cut.

I used super glue and drilled into the arms a few mm to stop them sticking out when attached. Good 5mm+ magnets should hold way more weight than the arms - I can pick the whole model up by one magnetised arm.

Absolutely critical point on polarity for OP though, make up a little card with 'body' and 'periperal' polarities and then use it to check whenever fitting magnets.

Another tip for anyone is that even powerful magnets will not be 'posable' and the arms tend to slip to the bottom under gravity. Ive seen solutions with brackets and pins but I mixed a little grit with some 'ard coat varnish and coated all the magnets with it which increases the friction enough to make the arms stay in any position

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I did mine very similarly to the one above except I glued the left arm in place and magnetised the shield so it could swap out with the guns.

As of earlier this week, I've got the basic pieces built:

As suggested above, I'm just going to do Wraithcannon arms and Sword & Shield arms. I'm not bothering with the gun & shield combination - tho it does have some interesting bitz.
