So apparently there is a Han Solo prequel in the mix. The movie focus will be:

The screenplay is written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan. The story focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.

Thoughts?

There's no way they're going to meet people's expectations on that.

True. I am nervous about this myself. One of best part of episodes 1-3 was that they didn't ruin Han Solo.

If they think it will be any thing like the books they will. As disney already said they are not canon. But, as the Marvel moives are fun and Antman even looks like it will be good, I have hope. So speaking of Antman when does Lando get his movie, they both really had the same odd of their own movie.

Ehhh, we'll see. Could be really good. Could be cheesy.

It will be better if they go gritty and not light hearted. More serious and dark, like how Rogue 1 is said to be.

Well as it obviously isn't going to be Harrison Ford, it isn't going to be any good. One general rule with Star Wars is to expect the worst, that way you're never disappointed with what Lucasfilm typically shovels out.

I can't imagine how they thought this was a good idea. Who thought this story needed to be told?

Someday, someone is going to write a prequel to the Usual Suspects that explains exactly how Keyser Soze got his start, met Kobayashi, and rose to power.

Nah, while the Usual Suspects is a great movie, it's not a cash cow the way Star Wars is. Now, on the other hand, Peter Jackson could do another trilogy explaining how Legolas and that elven girl who's name I forgot knew each other before the hobbit.

Given the all-but-confirmed casting of Chris Pratt for the new Indiana Jones, well, if he can already do one classic Harrison Ford role, why not Han Solo, too?

... they said they were doing 6 movies in 6 years when they announced Disney bought them. 3 numbered sequels, 3 spinoffs between them.

Can't exactly be shocked that Disney is milking a franchise is paid 4 billion for when they said they're doing it.

You're not helping.

Spin offs would be infinitely preferable to more prequels.

wait, what, and that's a bad thing?

The marvel movies haven't exactly been bad, what's the downside of finally have a decent number of movies in a truly interesting setting?

How can you say that Disney's Marvel movies are bad? Ok, they have simplified the Marvel universe, but IMHO that's a good thing, if they want to appeal to the biggest audience. I was doing some Marvel research the other day, as I'm trying to develop my comic art drawing skills, and couldn't believe what a mess the whole Marvel universe is. Different realities, universes, Avengers, New Avengers, Old Avengers, West Coast Avengers, East Coast Avengers, Young Avengers, Middle Age Avengers... get my point? I pick up 2000AD and Dredd is still Dredd. So to slate Disney over Marvel is a bit harsh.

At the end of the day it's about appealing to the biggest audience... and geeks ain't it I'm afraid.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

I'll keep an open mind about all these Star Wars films. One of the big attractions for me with the Original Trilogy is the fascinating setting that Lucas created. More films in that setting won't be a bad thing for me.

Even if the new films are rubbish that won't reduce my enjoyment of the Original Trilogy so it's all good.

The fanboy in me is very, very pleased to hear this!

Just needs two things to be perfect: Chris Pratt as Han and Boba Fett as the villain of the piece.

Antman looks like a joke but thats another thread.

As to this, could be good, could be bad. We'll see. But Disney is apparently going to milk this investment.

Unlikely. Their attitude to the EU is 'if we like an idea, we'll change it how we want'. What it'll have in common with the book is 'Han before A New Hope', and that's about it.
