This has to be one of the best project ideas I have heard about in a long time. Great job guys, too dang cool. Are you going to be accepting donation models still? I might have a few Orks laying around.

Donations of painted models is always appreciated!

What I really want is them painted - if you've got any type of ork to donate, please do.

To be fair, your organization was pretty good, kb. My extremely delayed execution was the wrench in the gears. You had a spreadsheet and everything. If LeCacty was genuine, you deserve it. If sarcastic, I do.

And thanks, Buttery. I doubt I'll be haunting the P&M boards like I used to - at least not any time soon - but I'm in a much better place, now. I'm hopeful, if not entirely confident, that finally seeing this project through will help get me back painting and posting, more generally.

You are missed here. You always give solid and practical painting advice. Hope everything turns up for you.

If anyone figures out something cool to do with them besides rivets, I'm all ears. That's the reason I bought them, that's the reason I shared them. I guess they'd work as Nurglish pustules, as well, but countersinking them to get domed protrusions is, as far as I've found, their best and sole purpose. Always happy to learn something new, though.

Grape shot?

honestly not sure what to use them for besides rivets and unmentionable things.

where the heck did you pull those out of.

Actually, I bought them expressly for the purpose mentioned. They're called 'microbeads' and are sold at craft stores (at Michaels, they're in the scrapbooking section). Apparently, they're used much like glitter, as a decoration for various paper crafts - lay down some glue, sprinkle them on... and get a bunch of tiny metallic balls instead of iridescent flecks.

Regardless, I love them as small rivets on minis. With a coupon, I couldn't have spent more than $5 on the jar of them (more likely, $3-4). After having shared as much as you've seen with this many people and using >500 on my own build, I've used up less than 1/4 of the jar.

Some people have advocated gutting Brita filters, etc. - I say they're wasting time and energy. I usually all for the DIY method, but sometimes a dollar is worth more than three hours of frustration, cursing, and sore hands [insert inappropriate joke about love-life here].

I got an Ork! And immediate accusations of spending money on Orks! The next week or two are pretty hectic, but I'll be jumping into converting and painting right after that.

Ahahahaha, sorry!

I think I have solved the basing issue too - Secret Weapon said no casting a negative for push molds, ala Basius molds, but I think it'd be fair use to use Insta-Mold and greenstuff - so I have. I've done the three orks that are in my possession, and I will jam up some pics shortly as I've primed them just now.

Story time!

So, the post just arrived, and I was surprised to find a package from the United States. I have a few packages i'm expecting, but they're from Germany, and China, so I was confused. I also didn't recognize the name of the sender. I order a lot of bits, and lego online, but still - to have NO clue what this was or who sent it? Then..I heard what sounded like sand granuels or some sort of powder inside the box. A little apprehensive now, I put on some latex gloves before carefully and slowly opening the little package in the laundry tub.

I cut away at the tape millimeter by millimeter, opening the lid with my head almost held back in case some powder exploded in my face. And then, I saw a couple of plastic bags, paper...and what looked like some random bits of junk??? My confusion levels were reaching critical.

But as I flipped over the bag, I discovered what it was, and found the note, and all was made clear! My Ork for the Dakka Mob had arrived! I had worried this project had fallen by the wayside, so I wasn't expecting it. But huzzah!

I had to read back in this thread to understand why there was a bag of random stuff in my package. I'm sorry to report however, that the metal cable cut through the bag, and the pellets/bearings spilled all through the box. I think a fair amount of them managed to survive the trip, but that took a little cleaning up (they're safely inside that plastic jar you see in the image). Also, there was a green piece of plastic that looks like a control panel...I realized that it's a MOLD! Did you intend to include that? I mean, it's awesome, and I'll absolutely put it to excellent and frequent use if you meant me to have it, but if you need it back, I understand and will include it when I ship the Ork. Also ignore that random construction with the balls on it to the left. I'm trying to make a Dalek from Doctor Who, for...another little scratch build project i thought up....

So there you have it, I can confirm that the Canadian shipments are arriving! I'll get to work on this as soon as I can.

D'oh! Should've thought about the braided wire being pointy. I should know - I've had dozens of those little wires get lodged in my fingers while removing them from old frames.

And yes, you're meant to have to control panel mold. Made it ages ago while experimenting with GS push-molds and have never needed it. I have InstantMold, now (I sent off a few sticks of that, too, if any recipient is wondering what the milky, bendy brick is), so if I ever need to duplicate the part, I can just go off of the original bit.

If any other bits seem mysterious to anyone, give me a shout. Like I said, I've found uses for all sorts of crap and sourced parts from anything and everything I could scrounge. You're as likely to find a cut zip tie and a broken pen tube as you are a small transformer or capacitor.

I think all the euro orks arrived already, were you on the list? Orks tend not to follow orders and instead so whatever the hell they want! I can try to see if BC has another ork handy, or source one for you somehow.

Also bases!

The orks were like $70, shipping so far has been about $150, it'll cost about that again to get them back, as well as reimbursing oadie and bc for their shipping costs, maybe $200. Basing is probably going to be $30 of greenstuff at this rate.

Including truant orks, and their replacements, I might end up with change from $500.

If I count my time, or had to pay oadie and bc it'd be in the millions

Well, Krumpy got backseated a while ago with school, competitions, and imminent gaming to attend to. But with the semester over, he has jumped to the front of the priority list for modeling/painting.

Just a matter of chewing through all the detail work now, and all the weapon options.

Spoiler:

War Kitten- Nothing evens the odds like a reaper chainsword to the naughty bits
Sgt. Vanden- And now I'm a whale with panties. Can't see how this day can get any better.
