So action taking place in a Star Trek movie isn't real action. Ok. Glad we covered that. Back to Star Wars.

Can't wait for this movie, really happy Abrams is doing it because I like his other Sci-fi work. Can't wait to see it 3 times in theaters (roommates, family, other non-roommate friends).

That got me thinking.

I'm old enough to remember a time when "How many times have you seen Star Wars?" was a greeting, not a question. And one that would be met with a double-digit answer.

You whippersnappers and your VHS rentals and such. Back in the day we had to actually go to the theater to see movies over and over again.

What is VHS? Is that some kind of DVD or something?

An inferior technology to Betamax, that's what it is.

This is actually true. Betamax had better picture.
They just lost because they refused to allow porn.

Not true.

Betamax DID allow porn. Only they were going to sell the hardware to the makers.

JVC however, GAVE the VHS gear to the industry for FREE, this is what kickstarted that revolution.

Just got tickets to the 12:05AM screening of Starwars on the 17th of December. Will be among the first to see it which should be cool. If the crowd is too rowdy and it was decent the first time I might watch it again later to avoid the crowds.

Trailer was so good! my 33 year old bones felt 5 all over again

However i had this same feeling when my 17 year old bones saw the episode 1 trailer, so my excitmenet has a lid on it for now.

As a quick aside to the debate about people forgetting about the jedi order, a couple of points:

Ray and Finn may have no idea about what happened 30 years ago.

Ray is from a backwater planet, possibly little news comes to that planet and the galaxy spanning comms network maybe doesnt go to their planet (a lot of the new books Tarkin especially, are talking about how expensive the holonet is and its a bit exclusive, and its controlled by the empire!

Finn talked about being raised to do a job, i.e. he is born and bread stormtrooper, so one can assume he has never been told of the jedi as 1, they dont exist anymore, and 2, the first order dont want that kind of talk.

Also even though the jedi were about for some 4000 years (KOTOR) etc, after the prequels, remeber emperor palpatine told anakin that the jedi had plotted his demise, and that it was a coup by the Jedi, so fo the thick end of 25 years the empire has sold the story that the Jedi cost the people their safety, led us into a war (clone wars) and the galactic empire was safer and a better idea.

Also propaganda and fear go a long way, even talking about the jedi could get folk incracerated, or even killed, so people tend to stop talking about the jedi pretty quickly, so those alive when the jedi were still active are now not passing on tales of the jedi, and they wont want their kids talking about them or the empire may arrest them etc.

The imperial palace was built ontop of the old jedi temple. Even the place the jedi called home no longer exists.

Also after ROTJ we all know how the stories have unfolded in the EU where the jedi have become plentiful again, however from what i am reading in new books\comics, that may no longer be the case, i actually think it makes more sense that when DS2 blew up and the emperor and vader died, the empire fragmented but was still the largest military force in the galaxy, its massive!

So i cant see a military indocrinated force of millions suddenly giving up.

Its a bit like the idea that if the allies were able to assassinate hitler WW2 would have ended sooner, many historians actually beliueve this would have been very bad, as Hitler wanted many superweapons, big tanks, fancy rockets and jest, when what the generals wanted was simply more materiel, standard stuff but lots of it.

This analogy is partly where the story of SW comes from, the deathstar being the wunderweapon, when another 100 super star destroyers would have been tactically much more useful.

Disney are playing a blinder here in the build up and tying lots of plots together to lead into ep7 i feel.

Oh and as a final aside to my mini WOT, a friend was speaking to a guy who works in a shcool, and they were doing history, a child was heard to ask, what the swastika symbol was, I quote "Is that like Hashtag Hitler?"

WW2 was 70 years ago, and some kids dont know what the swastika means. Thats with schools openly teaching about recent history, imagine schools and the populace actively covering up and forgetting about something like the jedi, it wouldnt take long for it to be forgotten about or disbelieved.

anyway, im super stoked!

ST 3: the death of Kirk's son. Generations: fist fights. The old show: fist fights and a ripped shirt for Kirk in every episode. There. Was. Action. You can't blame Abrams for putting action into a science fiction action movie. Regardless of what you want to remember the old ST films as, they were science fiction and always had action in them. Find me a ST movie that had no explosions from photon torpedoes in it, and I'll admit I was wrong.

There was often action in Star Trek because it is a good way to create dramatic tension. However the focus of Star Trek was always on a more philosophical type of drama than Star Wars.

Because when one thinks of "Wagon Train to the stars" they think slow, plodding, and philosophical.

I think the difference is that in Star Wars the writer creates an episode by thinking that this time we will explore concepts of loss and redemption, and writes up a scenario to create plot elements to facilitate the exploration of these ideas.

Whereas in Star Wars, the writer thinks of creating an exciting action adventure, which contains some elements of loss and redemption.

I think you meant one of these to be Star Trek.

At any rate, Filo Bedo Kylo Ren is a clone from Luke's Hand (right turn, Clyde). I like that theory.

I am thinking Kylo Ren(whose name isn't his name I think) is the son of Han and Leia who went dark. I have heard they might take snippets of EU as they go and Jacen did eventually go dark from what I have heard, they just accelerated it a bit. Age is correct as well.

I think Han and Chewy will die. Han because Harrison begged to be killed off, and Chewy because the actor that plays him is old and broken, nice guy, just a lot of health issues, I am really surprised he was able to come back for this. Plus it makes sense for this quasi reboot to start getting rid of the old actors and bringing in new ones.

By the way, has anyone seen any glimpse of Admiral Ackbar?

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

It was also character driven as well, which is why wrath of Khan is the stand out movie in the franchise.

Still twice as intellectual as Star Wars. There's nothing wrong with that.

A good adventure film is a great fun way to spend a couple of hours forgetting all your troubles.

Indiana Jones is only superficially a critique of western imperialistic concepts of formal academia versus traditional concepts of occult knowledge. Underneath the facade it is a solid pulp era thriller. That's why people were so angry when it moved into the Cold War era.

Aliens is just the concept of the higher powers of western civilisation as usually applied to primitive peoples, applied instead to western civilisation, casting the audience into the role of subjugation.
