Time for not one, not two, but three Death Guard historical posts!
In the 1st post the Grave Warden arms can also be seen, the ones i aim to finish (to re-start?!) soon!
New update!
Assault Squad nea...
Wait. I promissed thou more green. So green shall thou receiveth...
(With a few obvious touch-ups required)
A quick view of the Aiolos launcher
And now... Ladies and gentlemen, the assault squad near completion!
Still needs a few decals on the vexilla, then varnish, grass and some barbed wire on a few bases
And a quick back view of the vox, commander and vexilla
Work nearly completed on the shields
Front is done 100%, just a bit of weathering/grime on the back, another coat of varnish and i can call it a day
Really went to town on the weathering side. But hey, i had to make up for the not-so-badly-damaged armour that the squad has
I could say i'm in love with the way they turned out, i plan on using the same techniques on the dreads as well
Anyone who would vote against that much weathering??
Meanwhile, today i managed to put in some work on the bodies. I glued the right hands to the torsos, then the guns. Shields were blutak'd in place as i want to seal the figure under some varnish and the shield will block a lot.
A bit fiddly, but was happy with the final result.
Also done with the dirt and corrosion on the legs, and pinned to the bases. Much wow!
Then DISASTER struck. I glued the torsos to the legs, and when checking how they'd look with the shield on...surpise! It wasn't fitting, but was instead hitting the leg.
So i went back to breaking, fixing, testing... And about an hour later they were finally done
Phew. Close call
Full squad view

And another historical copy-paste post, this time it's a mix of posts in such an order that will ensure some continuity;
At the time, due to bad weather not allowing me to spray outside, i worked on a multitude of things at the same time, so lookity-look!
Let's start with he lovely Deredeo Dreadnought
A bit more work done here.
I decided to take a break from the Command Squad and move onto the Deredeo for a bit of variation.
First, more bitz that will have heavy rust on them:
Working on one part at a time, and started with the Aiolos launcher.
Main colours laid down, wash applied
And after a bit of more work.
The targeter lens was my first attempt at such a painting method, and i feel it ended up cool. Not the same as painting small lights, gems or eyes, which are much simpler/ugly due to size
Aiolos all done, behold its beauty. Sadly the front bit containing the missiles has a quite bad fit on the bottom. I couldn’t test fit it as it went in quite difficult and I was worried I won’t be able to pull it out again.
After a bit of gluing, I was able to keep the parts in place and still move it up/down. However the small amount and small contact zone broke soon so at the moment I’m thinking of pinning it somehow, so it can still be moved, if needed (for fun, not that someone would actually NEED to move it). Nice part is that the fit is so firm that they sit in quite tight without any glue added.
Lo and behold
Aside from that a bit more work on the Deredo, painted the studs and applied some small patches of Palid Wych Flesh to create a small contrast when the wash is applied.
Back on the Deredeo, i decided to magnetise the arms, in case they'll release something even cooler than the cannonade
Work was done on the legs, and they're very close to being done. Some more battle damage, a dirt wash and some powders.
On second thoughts, i don't like the green bit on the back so much, i should work a bit more on the blending
And a quick overview, still far from done, but good to get an impression
And finish with a lovely Drop Pod that at the time benefitted of the extra armour panels created by Chapterhouse studios (which i miss, damn you GW Lawyers!)
Of course I had to overshadow it. Console was primed black and painted with Alclad Chrome, and after some more work I can declare it complete.
Finally more work done. And a lot of pictures to show it!
I've been jumping between the Deredo and drop pod lately, to get some variation. Let's start with the pod, where a bit more work was done on the central console, to create the impression of lighting
Also work done on the doors. I was planning to magnetise them, but seems i can get a good enough fit with no need of magnets.
Still in a fairly incipient phase, sadly the hazard stripes seem to differ a bit from door to door. Guess i can live with it anyway
And a quick overview of where i'm standing now
That said, doooooors opened:
…and closed:
What can I say, the “heresy shields” are cool, shame they aren’t exactly the correct size. Also not a consistent thickness, and when sides perfectly aligned, the window was anything but.

Hey all, finally some update on the FISTS!
The Terminators are all but ready, i need to seal the rust streaks and then apply a 2nd layer of streaks to give it a bit of pop, then i'll show those.
Black powder weathering and basing will be done once all minis are completed so i can do that in a batch.
Moving on, i wasn't happy with the edge highlight i've done on the termies (lines a biiiiiit too thick) so i decided for the rest of the figures i'll do a general drybrush. The Hexos Palesun is a bit dry and made the entire job an ordeal, but finally past it and i like the results! Most obvious on the back of it
Moving on, painted all the metallic areas, including the ammo can on the backpack, which i wasn't planning initially, but i do feel it adds a lot of contrast
I aslo felt the guns were a bit barren, so i decided to add a yellow line to all, so below a quick look at the masking job and the end result after spraying - so i could get a nice transition.
I sadly realised too late that i should probably have painted the chainswords on both sides, so i might have to do that later. Luckily the swords were for the light assault marines, and i've only done the heavies.
And finally, a quick look to offer some overall feel, once the black trim was done. The yellow in the last 2 images turned out too bright, but i couldn't make it look better. The group pic should give a good idea
Finally, all this work was done just for the rotor squad. I've got a grey pin wash planned for the black areas, then a bit of grey edge highlight, some battle damage and rust streaks, and then i can move forward to the next 5.
I needed a bit of gluing and variation so keep me interested so that's why i preffered to work in small batches of 5 for now.
Hopefully another update soon!
As usual, thanks for stopping by

So…. Disaster struck
Due to my own stupidity, i have submerged the models in hot water to bend the ammo belts, before the matter coat got fully cured probably.
The result below. Any idea how this could get fixed? I tried applying matte and gloss coats to different panels, but it seems it won’t help. Gloss makes it go away until it dries, and then turns white again. Hope someone has some suggestions…before i go mad

Ack! Usually the solution is gloss - but that's to fix regular matte application gone bad, not submerging wet matte in hot water! I hope someone can suggest a workable fix. Barring that, I might try adding multiple layers of gloss (apply, dry, repeat) - maybe test on the base?

Thanks @ Arakasi, sadly it seems gloss didn't work; i ran to a shop trying to find Pledge Klear, but they were out of stock as well; luckily, only 2 models were damaged that bad, i suspect i put those in first, when the water was hot enough to break through the little cure time that passed.
The other 3 were a bit better, so i decided to just strip the clear coat; armed with large and medium drybrushes and a lot of Vallejo Paint Thinner i managed to remove it pretty well, there are still a few remnants on severe 2 units but it's mainly on the back leg armour and most visible on the panel wash, so i can live with it.
Naturally, i went through a bit of the weathering underneath it, as well as black trims, so i've had to redo those but it's all dry now and i applied another coat of matte, so it's pretty much done now just waiting for bases and weathering powders on the feet.
Lesson learned, pictures soon!

Not much going on at the moment on the Fists front; black trims, metal areas painted. Really, more of the above, so probably best time to do another Death Guard historical post!
Some battle damage was added, the cables were heated and twisted to the correct angle and now it's pretty much standing on his own power core. And magnets, for that matter.
The guns are pretty much done, just a bit of red needs to be added to the front nozzles and some black around the heat exhausts
As i said, the pod also got some attention. Doors are pretty much done at this moment
And all in place. Entry damaged was added with a very dark grey and then a layer of black on the bottom half
Worked on a base for the drop-pod. It will sit in place via magnets. Interestingly, it fits perfectly on the new 130mm round bases that GW released, so i'll need to stick one under all the cork
Also, more damage, some pin washing and oxidising added to the Deredeo. Short of working on the eye lenses, it's pretty much done

Continued work on the command squad.
First, the standard - really happy to see the text is readable. Sadly i wasn't able to get rid of those thick margins around. Thinking of using a cotton bud dipped in nail polish, but a bit risky...
And the rest of the work
Thanks for looking!

Quick update on the under-works 6 Fists. Bitz and pieces, trims painted black, metal parts painted either Exhaust Manifold or Jet Exhaust to provide a bit of contrast, washed and the sorts. Tried adding 3-4 Nuln Oil washes to the gun barrels and mags to offer a bit of contrast and look like it's a different type of metal. I think i need to get some sort of Gunmetal paint to help with that Bodies of said units, with black trims in place, also the Standard Bearer and the fine red trim it got And a close-up of the backpacks And finally, Commander of these folks. Torso is not glued, and due to bluetac will look too high but ignore that; it also misses the chainsword/pistol/ammo pouches. I have one of each for the 5 man squad, need to decide what to add. Probably swords and pouches, and give the pistols to the Phalanx squad to have a bit of variation and break up all the black there. It's ALMOST like a spinning GIF lol. Thoughts, comments, suggestions always welcome. Thanks for stopping by!

Quick update here as the bolters squad was done and i started work on the Phalanx. I'll post some images of all completed figures soon, and then proper ones after i do the bases.
So, without further ado, the banner
The axes, with a nice electric blue airbrushed transition
The shields, BEFORE scratches and rust was added
... and AFTER
And an example of one of the 5 black Phalanx Warders, after gold trim was done (present on just 3 of them) and rust and armour scratched added;
I have to say, as strange as the MK III legs mixed with MK IV torsos look, it actually grew up on me a lot, and it looks really good and bulky after the shields are added;
Pretty much all bits are done, a bit of Nuln Oil left to add on backpacks and then start cutting the arms glue points to get better poses if i don't like standard ones.
Should be done in a day
Cheerio!

Gitsplitta wrote:That's excellent work ciuncky. Excited to see them all put together. Thanks man, as a matter of fact i did snap some pics today. The Phalanx is not fully done, i need to apply a nuln oil wash on metallic areas and possibly drybrush the cables on the axes as they look dull. But all pieces are glued in place, it sure was a nightmare due to the mix of Mk III and IV. Happy to have that part out of the way lol; Also, eagle-eyed hobbists will notice that 2 shieds / arms are not in the original position, i didn't really like the dynamic of the pose as Mk III legs are more static or advancing/striding, opposed to Mk IV which seem to be running. Took me the better part of an hour to get those 2 in a position i liked haha. KIND REMINDER TO THOSE WHO DIDN'T FOLLOW ALONG - i paint for pleasure, so these are not battlefield-legal squads (either mixed weapons, or 5 instead of 10-man squads). I simply built them the way i think they look best. So, here we go! Terminators: Rotor Canon front & back Bolters front & back Phalanx Warders front, side (Shields) & back Terminator Captain and Standard Bearer front, side & back Once the final touches are added to the Phalanx squad, i'll start on the final 6 figures (5 special weapons and the 2nd dude from the Imperial Fists Command) Those should take a bit longer opposed to the Phalax as there's more painting to do, and once complete i'll get on a batch base building which i can't wait

Cheers man, yeah they turned out pretty decent and i'm happy with the techniques i learned / got to try out.
They're not perfect, but i don't pretend to be a Golder Daemon painter so ...
Re: bases, i plan on some ruined city scape, post-bombardment/Exterminatus. So everything will be burned, blacketc. A bit of cork, some pipes, some bricks, some wire and cogs.
And then black soot to weather the lower part of the legs for all the minis, but will do that at the very end before i pin them in place, and then seal all under the (6th i think, and) final coat of matte.

Hi all,
A bit of a quite time as all that happened with the last few units was stuff i showed before, a bit of drubryshing, a bit of oils, stuff like that.
They are all complete now, so i've got to the next point, which was to build 28 bases!
A quick dryfit of the 6x 40mm ones
An overview of all 28, after ironcrust dried and cracked nicely
And then all of it primed black...
...drybrushed Mechanicus Standard Grey...
...further drybrushed Pallid Wych Flesh...
...washed with Nuln Oil...
...and finally powdered with Soot Black. The result isn't equally visible on all figures as when sealing them it sort of dissolved in areas i sprayed too heavily.
The effect is worth it though so i decided not to reapply powders as it offers a nice variation across the "board".
All sealed under Vallejo Matte and added some scorched tufts from Army Painter.
With that sorted, the Imperial Fists are done!
I've ordered a photo tent so next post will be on the Completed Log thread and i'll include the Chaos Knight Rampager as well as the Mechanicus i've finished.
Next update here will also show my next project! I picked up a Kill Team manual and will go with a Mechanicus force and some terrain. Stay tuned!
As always, thanks for spending some time here!
