Well, if the box art is any indication, it looks like in addition to the Deathwatch team itself, there will be a Magus, purestrain genestealers, at least one generation of Hybrids (probably the same thing rules-wise). I'm not for sure, but is the larger, spikier genestealer the new Broodlord/patriarch?

I'm not seeing any human cultists though. Which is odd, I was sure they'd be in there.

While I didn't think there would be a cult limo, I was definitely hoping for it. Perhaps it is a later 40k release with the 40k rules for GS cults.

Anyone else notice that the chaplain looking marine in the center of the cover art is an Ultramarine. Since we've already seen a model for a bolter wielding sternguard Ultramarine I wonder whether the cover art is absolutely representative of the box contents.

The hybrid armor looks very heavily influence by the classic, the torso part was this molded plastic/leather looking hunchback design, with a main design element being the huge, almost helmetless astronaut style collars. the arms and legs tended to be more conventionally armored/dressed. They did use some degree of bionics and a variety of rarer seen firearms. Everything looks very true to the original and a natural evolution so far, which makes me happy as hell because it looks like the design lines up very nicely with the customs I did a few years back. Should have no problems adding these in seamlessly if the models hold true!

I find this all really exciting, but does anyone worry how GW can do a mini-codex for Deathwatch with just these fixed character miniatures?

I was told about GSC during the Skitarii release last year but it was one of those things that you hope is true but... suspect it may not appear due to problems.

I suspect this will tie in to two mini faction things (what I was led to believe) but who knows.

Pretty sure the UM chaplain is none other than Ortan Cassius. Looks a lot like him from where I'm sitting..

Easy it never stopped them from releasing a blood angel kit after Space Hulk?

No because I am not expecting a mini-codex.
I am expecting White Dwarf rules, nothing more.
Later in the year if and when they release stand alone minis like Sad Panda hinted at perhaps we will get a dex.
Sadly people jack up expectations and when things are great yet do not live up to inflated expectations people rage at Games Workshop.
Temper expectations and it is all bonus

I think it's very likely you will get a mini dex, might be 8 months but you probably will.

To be fair, we don't know when or where the game is set. How long has Cassius been in the Ultramarines? How much of that time has he spent with the Deathwatch? It seems fitting that a guy who had his face melted a good bit by nids, would want to kill a Stealer cult.

Count me in the camp that would've preferred more obscure chapters. Heck, new ones would've been cool. I understand that it would have been more expensive in both design man hours and possible sales lost by not selling to some First Founding fans, but with their plastic tech and monopose models they could've made some crazy unique SM. A Rhino-totemed Termi and a Gorilla chapter Assault Marine, a skull-collecting, psi-scythe wielding Scripto, a Samurai SM, whatever.

Since at least before the first Tyrannic War. Based on his face - assuming it is him - this is before that.

No one says you can't have them as successor chapters. Most share a lot of iconography with their first founding chapters. That and it'd be super easy to convert some up.

**edit: While GW does make some silly decisions a good bit, they know that their first founders chapter stuff will sell well. Granted, pretty much anything Space Marine will sell well.
@HBMC: ok not face melted just yet if it is him, but I imagine seeing pretty much all of your chapter getting eaten will have the grudge-o-meter on maximum overload.

The carapax of the Stealer (or 1st gen. Hybrid) on the left looks like a reminiscence to the old models.

Bounding Dark Angels Assault Marine

from BL Deathwatch books

Veteran warrior Vael Donatus is hailed as a hero by the young firebrand Chaplain Cassius for employing the expertise of his brethren only recently returned from the hallowed ranks of the Deathwatch.

The Iron Hand Ennox Sorrlock has still become a formidable weapon of the Deathwatch Chapter. His mind is a logic engine with only one purpose – to slay the xenos. But when Chaplain Cassius offers him the chance to take part in a new mission against the same dark eldar raiders who crippled him and slaughtered all his brethren so many years before, Sorrlock’s lack of emotional response is... unexpected.

Ok, so possibly plastic younger Cassius? That's pretty cool.

[EDIT]: I know this has been brought up before, but compare this thread to the Wulfen thread. It's an interesting contrast.

You mean this thread seems almost happy and that one was sounding the doombell?

Young Cassius huh .....

I guess the Genestealer that ripped his face of was like " oi you you killed my great uncle's wife's brother-in-law by Genestealer implantation, Now you die"

Cassius " U wot mate, ill bash you on the noggin I will "

One fight later

" Ow my face.... medic!"

This is quite exciting, but I am even more worried about the space hulk similarities. 10 space marines plus a younger version of a noted space marine hero against Genestealers. I know there are cultists in there too but it all seems a little lacking in creativity so far.

Just checking, there's been no indication yet that this will be a limited run/While Stocks Last product, has there? I know BaC is still around and has presumably thus had multiple print runs and is a permanent part of the range, I hope this is the same as I won't have the cash to pick one up for a while.

As I understand its going to be quite a large run. Can't say if its Ltd though but if it has unique figures usually they are.

If you definitely want one and probably can't pick it up for a month or two I might be able to help.

Theories are its based in the old Space Hulk expansion so it's similar

The production schedules and leadtimes used by GW mean that any follow-up release for later this year is likely pretty much finished already. Going by the snippets from mister Panda (as well as recent GW behaviour) I expect the following to happen:

1) Deathstorm boxed game pre-orders next weekend
2) WD 40k rules the following week for the models in the box, probably with some scenario rules too
3) A larger Harlequin-style release after the summer with the box models plus others (likely a new purestrain sculpt), along with a codex of some form.

Of course the quality of the rules are still widely open to debate... but I'm certain we will see them.
