I'd quite like to convert a few of my 3rd/4th gens to carry lasguns in place of their autoguns too, but don't see an easy way of fitting the stocks around the hybrids' arms.

As such, I'd be very interested to see how you get on with this project.

Do lasguns even need stocks? I thought laser weapons have no recoil

Technically they do, as photons have kinetic energy and momentum. But I doubt it is considerable.

A stock isn't just there to absorb recoil, it also provides a means to support the weapon to help you aim at your target.

Shoulder stocks are not just about recoil; they aid aim significantly too.
Also remember that the Guard recruits from mid-tech worlds where the locals have slug throwers but not lasers, and teaching people used to holding a regular rifle not to lead their shots is gonna be just that much harder if you have to teach them not to shoulder the weapon at the same time…

That's a more than reasonable excuse; things do take longer to paint and assemble when they're not 28mm scale.

I'm away in Cornwall, and thus haven't been thinking about plastic spacemen either, but will be interested to see how you get on with this when you get back to it. (And to steal whatever solution you devise.)

Loving this game so far. Quick and easy to learn, total carnage and good fun!

Only gripe is as the shiney board sections are not joined together they move about a lot on my wooden table top during play. I'm currently having to put down a sheet of felt on the table to avoid them slipping about.

I first tried poster / blue tack but the sections were all uneven and it took a while to clean the stuff off the table.

Anyone tried anything like sticky rubber dot pads or clipping the sections together somehow?

Edit - Just did a search on EBay for Bumpons which could (in theory, if they are small enough) be stuck on all 4 corners on both sides of each section. Only problem I see with this is it being bulky in the box maybe...?

One idea I've used for other games: get a sheet of plexiglass / acrylic / whatever and a piece of cardboard / poster board / whatever of the same size. You can put cardboard tiles or paper maps between them to create a flat surface.

Try the rubber drawer liners used for kitchen drawers or tool cabinet drawers.

Try some EPDM rubber sheets (aka pond liner). You can get it from garden centres fairly cheap and at pretty much any size you like.

Does anyone have any blog links to people currently working on the Cult? I've spotted one by Bottle in P&M which is shaping up nicely but I reckon it'd be nice to get a list together so those of us needing inspiration have a place to go and peruse.

A couple i've seen so far:

i'll be posting one myself shortly once i've finished obsessing over colour schemes.
thanks
Pete

Yeah, this is a very pleasant surprise. The Deathwatch game has so much obvious scope for expansion, I would be delighted were GW to continue to support it, whether by printing rules in WD for other 40k forces, or - which would be even better - publishing proper supplements with additional boards and new miniatures.

Even if they don't, once I've played a few more games, I shall make a stab at adding new missions, and maybe even some custom DW characters of my own.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Yodhrin was 100% correct. Some people like to address the scale and proportion problems. If you don't want to do it, then nobody is forcing you to. But nothing is ending up "bigger than they should be". Who's to say what something "should be"? Obviously not you.
"What something should be."
How it "should be made" which is unmodified? It is a valid statement.
How it "should be in scale" according to fluff I can see wanting to make the change. It is also a valid statement.

"True scale" is a bit of a misnomer since all the models are already "heroic proportioned" for better game piece durability and easier to see the detail in a bigger size: they cannot be true to scale at all without looking wrong. It is not the "true" scale here.
Maybe we are looking for "proportionately scaled up"... hehehe... "supersized", "right-sized", "correct-sized"... this is sounding like a political correctness speech for layoffs.

I have met too many people on this board who will fight you tooth and nail that 6mm vs 10mm figures are VERY different and not "good enough" to be used either way.
Being more of a devil's advocate, in the end, the bigger marines look cool.
I would be happy to see them across the table, I would just look at them and say "Challenge accepted: the bigger they are, the harder they fall!"

Hello,folks...maybe someone's already posted,but, I have a couple of doubts about rules:

Jump: is it possible to jump just in "assault distance"?
Run: "Model can run instead of attack". How many spaces? It's actually not specified.
thanks!

Jump can be no further than assault range, measured from the jumping model to the zone you want to reach.

Run can be used to move 1 space (the next adjacent zone) or to Jump.
