The first movie was full of bad laughs and absurd SCIENCE! They hacked into a alien spaceship with a fething macbook and deployed a virus written in a human programming language that interfaced perfectly with their system - and even deployed a video file, with sound, to their monitors, meaning that they were using a human made video codec.

Yes, but you need to know at least something about code to see why that's stupid, something that was pretty uncommon in 1996... and of course, it's also a handy analogue for how War of the Worlds ended; the aliens brought down by an alien bug,
Whereas, in this case, it's immediately apparently to anyone regardless of background that it's pretty stupid to see .
You guys like it, that's great! You're supposed to like a movie. I'm glad you did. For people on the fence, I'm just going to point out that in my opinion, the fact the first one got a 56 average weighted review and the new one got a 32 seems pretty accurate, anecdotally. There's a reason that Ng Chin Han and Angelababy were featured so prominently - it's because the producers knew they were fronting some bs and they hope it will fly better with Chinese audiences than American ones.

I always figured that was actually the main reason behind being able to take down a super-advanced planet destroying alien mothership with a Powerbook.

On the first point, we agree. While Cloverfield vs school bus could be a riveting movie, it was a let down here. That's the part that disappointed me about the ending. How that compares to the Apple virus for silliness is likely different for each viewer. The one undeniable error is that she had no ID4/Pacific Rim 'staring at the bomb' moment. Total waste of her character.
On the second...remember the huge mothership from the first movie? The one that should have caused tidal waves and screwed up our orbit? Remember how they blew it up close enough to cause an Endor Holocaust? I don't think suspending disbelief for the sequel's mothership requires any additional muscle flexing.
And Brent Spiner totally brought the fun. How do you not love ambiguously-gay, manic Dr Soong? Is your emotion chip busted? 'Cause he can fix that.

I thought Brent Spiner was fine. There were definitely parts that I liked - the space fighters were terrific, and the weird designs for the tugs were fairly original i thought. The acting was OK, the African general machete guy was good (even though discount John Oliver was a bit too much).

Discount John Oliver was necessary to correct for the logy pilots of Lethargy Squadron. Angry Chinese Uncle could have used more screen time cursing out Mauverick in Mandarin, in my opinion.

I personally liked it. Loved the visuals, loved the scale, loved alot about it.
My favorite thing was that the aliens where an actualy threat, not just their ships.
Also, I mean, I can pick it apart all day, but I dont want to because it was just fun to me. Automatically Appended Next Post: chromedog wrote:Indeed, it was part of the joke.

so apple was stealing ideas even from aliens damn.

Saw it. Even going in knowing it was justa B movie, and three Kraken Rums could not help this film. It was just...bad. Good: the ships ours and theirs. The African general needed substantially more screen time out and out hunting aliens predator style. Bad: The plot, the storyline was just wowsa bad. Bad: The acting was just wowsa bad. Don't waste money on this. Wait until it comes out on free cable.

Now that you mention it, I confess, I thought he had been killed as well. Sorry about spoilers!

Nah, you didn't spoil it. He was in the trailers, which was confusing.
