Yeah that would be a terrible thing to put to celluloid. There's no way you could make some great narrative or character development out of that.

Now I'm hooked on Londo Mollari Youtube videos (again).

Well, if they want a good laser fight, then they shouldn't park so close.

Edge of my seat thrill coaster. Great special effects and art direction. Never has a feature-length film left my inner 12-year old fist pumping so much. A grand example of defeating a superior foe with ingenuity, dogged determination and teamwork. I hope they release the soundtrack to streaming soon, I need something to keep me pumped during my workouts.

If you're wanting to harvest a planet for resources, blowing it away from outside orbit is probably not the best plan.

As to why the Aliens dont destroy the planet outright, Revenge.
My guess is, with their advance Tech, they rarely lost a fight. and with hubris, thats why they lost.
so they are back for revenge, not to destroy earth, but to make the humans suffer, yeah, they can glass the planet, but now they want them to know fear.
Something else cool, Hover Jets, they are moving slow on tke off, so it is likely that they are alien VTOL craft made by humans, kinda cool

I thought the glowy discs under the fighters was a dead giveaway they're based on alien tech.

I haven't looked online at casting or anything, but I would think that there's still the possibility of Will Smith being in there.

His character is dead. There was a scene in the trailer that showed a news clip of his death in an accident, working with the new alien/human aircraft.

Looks interesting.

I loved independence day, and stargate. It would be cool to see if they made their own types of motherships and/or what they did to improve technology since then.

Well , yeah. Leaving aside that this new ship is bigger than the mothership from the first film that had a mass 1/4 of earth's moon, and should have disrupted the planets orbit. At the distance of low orbit its gravity would cause tsunamis and volcanic eruptions over the entire planet.

I just saw the movie, and I enjoyed it a lot. It has the same feel as the first one, cheesy fun with some action. It's no Civil War, but it's no Bayformers piece of crap, either. They managed to fit in a lot of buddy scenes and quirky moments. The pacing in the middle was a bit chop-chop. The action was good, although the very last battle was not as strong as it could have been. Gold lump and Spiner really made their scenes. The film is screaming for a Stargate SG1-style series. Begging, even.

Now I really want some X-Wing or Dropzone Commander scaled minis of the Earth Defense fighters, especially the sweet bombers.

Yep. Sits right beside the first movie very well. Big, loud cheesy sci fi fun.

Had the displeasure of seeing this film las nigth, I wonder when I learn that noting good ever comes out of Hollywood. Dull actors, a story that could put anyone to sleep and a ending that one would be dead not to see coming. Please no more Independence day films for me, but I know that I am probabaly in the minority when it comes to this movie. And thankfully people have different tastes when it comes to film

I saw the movie yesterday afternoon, and I thought it was awesome! Perhaps not as good as the first one, but whatever. I enjoyed ID:R on the same level as Pacific Rim or the Transformers movies: a lot of epic action and stuff blowing up without having to make realistic sense. Just watch the movie and eat your popcorn!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):

I'm pretty much in the same boat. It wasn't as good as the first, but it was still good. Honestly, after 20 years, nothing will be as "good" as the first.

The comparison to Pacific Rim is apt. They both seem like movies the audience has to engage with on their own levels. Many people seem to think the film is dumb or a mess, but I suspect they would have felt the same way about the first ID4 when it came out if not for youth or rose tinted goggles.

I'm pretty hot to see this, and am hoping to tonight or tomorrow morning - my schedule has been packed this weekend. I know it's not going to have a great plot or story but I don't care, sometimes you just want to see see gak getting wrecked.

I loved Pacific Rim.

Which really doesn't mean much as it is how things get wrecked that make a movie interesting, fun, or both. I hope you have fun but I'm not holding my breath with what I've been told and read about it.

I just came from seeing it, and I made a terrible mistake.

I thought it was going to be a stupid, but fun, popcorn flick.

Instead it was just stupid as gak.

Terrible on every level imo.

Tell me about it, I think the only posetiv thing about it is it that there was no Will Smith

YE GODS, PACIFIC RIM!

Pacific Rim is still GOD TIER when it comes to 100% pure, undiluted AWESOMENESS.

As for the Independence Day sequel, I haven't seen it yet. But since I loved the over the top original, I'll have to check Resurgence out or I'll feel like I'm missing something.

Really? I don't see how it is any more stupid than the first one. As for fun...well, that's pretty subjective. What were you expecting that it failed to deliver?

For me, the fun was there, even if the action was silly and the very ending was weak. The world building was fun in a Stargate sort of way, and the wacky characters were fun to watch. Reminded me a lot of the first one, and of Pacific Rim.
