Ultramarines! Mostly because of being roman Badasses that can either use interlocking tactics to bring down the enemy, or swarm them with bodies until they fall.

Pre-heresy Word Bearers. I would like to do something new with the chapter, you see Dusk Raiders and War Hounds but, never WB before they turned.
Death Guard. I love the blue and white. I have plans for these guys but, I'm not 100% set yet.
Maybe Chaos Ultramarines. Because no one else has done it.

World eaters, adb basically caused this.....

Raven guard, purely rules to be honest and like the fluff, can't wait for the raptors sculpts to come out, loyal gal vorbak!!!!

Dark angels... Cos noble bright dark angels were a thing, sort of, they are a massive contrast to 40k angels, more so than any other legion I think.

Iron Warriors

I think just about every combat engineer can sympathize with them on some level. The red headed step child of the legion astartes is a good match for the red headed step child of the military.

The Shattered Legions, an Istvaan-themed force of Iron Hands, Salamanders and Raven Guard. Why? Because:

a) Choosing one Legion is too hard
b) painting just one Legion is too boring
c) I have a fluffy excuse to run an army of kitted up hard as nails veteran troops, and few/no tanks
d) the painting and conversion opportunities are too good to pass up, all kinds of injuries, improvised and scavenged gear, stolen armour and weapons ect.
e) Plenty of rules flexibility on the table; they can be played as either one of the three Legions, and are getting their own rules soon as well.

There's already a whole bunch in my P&M blog. HH stuff starts on P46, and continues from there (there's a little X-wing and Infinity in the last few pages, but mostly a whole lot of Heresy from P46-55)

Ultramarines, the Roman vibe is pretty awesome, as well as the shieldwalls and pseudo-markerlighting.

Though my particular detachment of the XIIIth Legion is still wavering between Loyalist and Traitor.

I haven't played yet, but I'm starting on Alpha Legion.

I've always wanted to get a small AL force, and it'll be very different from the greys, browns, and blacks I usually paint in.

Interesting. They worshiped the emperor as a god, and they had Songs praising him on their GREY armour. Would be fun to paint.

Death Guard have green and off-White. World Eaters are White-Blue.

I have no idea why I wrote blue, except I was thinking terribly hard over what the World Eaters were before the heresy.


I like DG because of the color greeeeen and whiteee.

Alpha legion for a couple of reasons:

1. I am Alpharius and so is my wife - just like the whole know one outside knows what the hell is going on with them
2. I liked the shinny paint jobs on the FW site
3. Alpharius's abilities are a giant f you to the opposing player, more about screwing the other side over than simply destroying them.
4. The eventual possibility of fielding twin primarchs

Emperor's Children

1) I play Emperor's Children in 40k (always have, for like 20 years), so I know their backstory pretty well.
2) I like Purple/Gold/White.
3) I want to model and explore their rapid fall from grace and embracing of sonic gear/weapons
4) I want to slowly build the connection between my 30k and 40k force

Iron Warriors, Perturabo looks awesome, has his own super heavy ride, a combination of tanks, artillery, and tyrant siege Terminators just fit how I like to play.


Ravenguard, because I already did my 40k army in Heresy era army so it didn't take much to make it 30k.

I chose the XII Legion, The World Eaters. In no particular order here is why:

1) The paint scheme is striking. The white and blue just go so well together.

2) BLOOD SPLATTER!

3) Chainaxes, Excoriator Chainaxes, Meteor Hammers, etc. I like CC weapons!

4) The legion has more character to them than just mindless killing machines. The World Eaters were a legion who was loyal to their primarch to the point of voluntarily getting the butchers nails just to feel acceptance. Angron was doomed from the get go. Angron never forgave his father for what happened on Nuceria and Angron still feltlike he was a slave. Angron got a pretty raw deal.

Alpha. I was really interested in world eaters. I've always played cc forces but i'm trying to change things up. I figured alpha has a little bit of everything with some cool tricks. I also like the paint scheme. And the primarch is a space pirate with a face tattoos... or is he? Looking forward to seeing the fluff get expanded around them.

No love for the Blood Angels? BOOO!!!

World Eaters as my first HH Legion. I have played them since 3rd ed CSM? Reading Betrayer brought it all back. Oh, and chainaxes.

And my second love, a traitor Taghmata Omnissiah force. Big stompy battle machines. 'Nuff said.

Sons of Horus.. Because Horus is the boss and he's the nicest model I own. My fluff list is all termies, Horus and Abbadon.

Blood Angels, I love Sanguinius' fluff. I also collect then for 40k and didn't fancy starting another SM army (although WS was a huge decision I had to make)

Alpha Legion
Because i like being unpredictable and stealing other legion specific units AND MAKING THEM BETTER

Alpha and RG, because they are smrt and the other legions are not.

Also turqoise and the original marines in black.

Also covet ops, and inciltration and deception.

Also lightning claws, and power daggers.

And a myriad of other things, that just set them apart from space batmen, or space romans or space religion etc etc

K-sons. The novel 'A Thousand Sons' was one of the few that was less bolter porn and more cerebral, and the legion culture got me hooked. Plus their fall is easily the most tragic of the lot for me.

Egyptian themed red and gold for the win.

Plus I've always cordially loathed the Space Wolves. That leads me more easily to heresy.

On the loyalist side I've always loved the neo-Roman vibe of Legio XIII. Unlike many, I find Robute to be both honorable and sensible, less of a man child than many of his fellow Primarchs.

Red and blue make a nice contrast, don't you think?

I'm honestly torn between several options. Initially I just wanted to play either Sons of Horus or Luna Wolves. Mostly I wanted to play SoH or LW because of Horus. He is such an important figure for obvious reasons, but because he is inspiring. He is the beloved leader who knows every one of his legionnaires by name and even knows many of the serfs and official individuals aboard his own battle barge. If I play it Luna Wolves then that sees me limiting my power unless I do the entire army pre-Davin III. My other choices would be either Alpha Legion (just not sure which of the twins I would side with for it) or Salamanders. The models for the Salamanders just look amazing and lore wise are one of my favorite armies. As for the Alpha Legion, the more I find out about them (from whatever little there is) the more I find I'm drawn to them. They are often shamed by the other primarchs for their tactics being more for subterfuge and stealth while really they just embrace war in a different style. They aren't there for glory, they're there to get the job done.

While I look forward to seeing what will happen with the sons of Russ (Space Wolves has been my preferred 40k army for several years) I find myself interested in other armies however.

Good to see so many fellow Ultramarine players.

I play 30k Ultramarines because I play 40k Ultramarines so I can reuse a lot of models, I already have far too many armies. I chose Ultramarines because I like the Roman imagery.

I also play Dark Mechanicum as who doesn't like big, evil, stompy robots? May be you if they've been stomping all over your face. I also had Titans from my 40k Chaos armies that I wanted to reuse.

My Militia is just my Vraks army sent through a time portal. As is my Knights army. I already have the models so they get reused.

World Eaters. I have played pure WE army since 3rd , like some other here, too. I'm still building them, but we have strong player scene in 30k in my area, with couple tournaments in year etc. Plannig to build them so that they are linked to my 40k army. So my praetor in 30k is same character as my 40k one, just more corrupted one. Both also have lots of infarty, dreadnouhgts and bikes.

My 30k WE force is going to be traitor force which has already turning to the path of damnation. No mutations, but more savage look than your average WE army.

A final decision for which Legion to do keeps getting more and more difficult. There is some real sweet Forge World Chapter specific stuff out there. Also every time they come out with a new unit specific for a Legion, I wanna suddenly do that one!

Betrayal at Calth makes 30k slightly cheaper so what I'm planning is using a mix of those models and some Forge World Chapter Upgrade stuff for units who's chest isn't covered by a bolter: Sargent, Heavy Weapon Troopers, Assault Marines, and any specialty troops. I wanna just do a big mix of armor types in my units.

I've decided to do a Loyalist and a Traitor Chapter. For Loyalists, I've decided on Raven Guard. I like the new forge world stuff and mixing jump pack stuff with Scout Squads looks fun to play. For traitors Im going with World Eaters. World Eaters were my first army in 3rd edition. I remember seeing an article in an old White Dwarf that told the legions background and right away I knew that was my legion. I have always wanted to do a pre heresy World Eater army. Now I can!

There are, what 5 or 6 guys here, who have played World Eaters since 3rd edition? Amazing! Newer before I have witnessed some much of WE love in any forum! Would bring some tears of blood to my I if my 'Nails wouldn't block all my non-violent emotions... :
