I can't remember every detail as it took lots of guess work. I do remember the eureka moment was a 50/50 mix of Emperors Children Pink and Troll Slayer Orange, mixed with a healthy dose of Lahmian Medium to turn it into a glaze. After that it was highlighted up with Flayed One Flesh and Pallid Wych Flesh.

I hope that helps! :-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Great Magus. Really inspired me to push my current project (some Stormcast) a bit back and worked on my own GSC... I adore the face of your mini... It's so full of expression.

Thanks guys!

Next up on the painting block this month:

Really looking forward to painting these. I had fun with the bases and did an ever-so-minor change to the one of the far left cutting away the power-pick from the chest and re-positioning it. The metal flooring is going to be painted yellow to match the pilot light on the Genestealer Patriarch base (Iam slowly going to work in yellow as a base spot-colour.)

I'll try to post more WIPs through the month! :-)

More to come...

Thanks for all the comments and support guys. I have some WIPs for you this evening :-)

Abberants WIP

The first picture shows what my models look like with the base coats on the white undercoat. I go for really light colours so there isn't much to do after the wash.

The second picture shows them post-washes, with some work on the skin. As the skin is such an important part of these models I am going to put a lot of work into that area using glazes to make smooth transitions (hopefully)

My brother surprised me with a gift of the new Neophyte Hybrids! Wow! This is a fantastic kit to build. Probably the best infantry kit I have ever built from Games Workshop (my previous favourite being the Empire Archers). There's 2 leaders there because I will mix these guys in with the DW:OK ones to make 2 squads of 13. Drilling out the barrels on the shotguns was scary, but is a definite must in my opinion!

ewwwwwwww what are these ugly things!? Back before I took a break from the hobby to live in South Korea, I had a Tyranid army (it would have been 5th Edition). That army is still in my loft and I have decided to salvage these Genestealers from it.

Yes, I was a terrible terrible painter back then lol! But these guys will get thrown in the Dettol and repainted. I have done quite a few repaints on old plastic minis after stripping the paint with Dettol. Hopefully they'll look nice once they have been redone.

It actually leads to a question I wanted to ask you guys. These Genestealers are all armed with Scything Talons... is that still a thing? Can Genestealers have different equipment? And more importantly can Purestrain Genestealers in the Cult Codex have different options?

I am going to see if I have all the rending claws on sprue somewhere as that is the classic look. These will all be painted the classic blue and purple to match the Patriarch.

JamesY wrote:I'm looking forward to seeing what you do on the abhorrents Bottle, they are by far my favourite models from the box.

Thanks! I am really coming to love the models whilst I have been painting them. Hopefully GW will release a box of them in the future because I think the poses are too limited if you have more than 4.

Yes. GSC 'Stealers can get Scything Talons in this codex.

That's the only upgrade you can BUY, but you can get different upgrades to them randomly (But only if you take the right formation).

Unit size is up to 20.

More progress on the Abberants. I have spent the week working exclusively on the skintones, and I hope you can see the difference. The skin still has a way to go (and I need to prepare for an AoS tourney on the side, so I am only really working on these in my lunch breaks) but the rest of the models will just be simple edge highlights and shouldn't take too long to complete. I need to do all the veins on the skin and add some purple transitions out of the genestealer parts as well as work on their faces.

Let me know what you think :-)

Looking good so far. I can't add anything else to the steps you have outlined, the veins and purple transitions being the only things I noticed that still needed doing. The pink colour coming out of the double arm on the fella on the right looks perfect.

Thanks James! :-)

I am also wondering if I should take out some of the contrast between the raised and recesses. For example on the guy second from the right, his human arm has some really dark recesses just above the elbow. Not sure if I should lighten it ever so slightly.

I also want to add a blue glow from their forehead carapace and the the shoulders of the two carrying the double-handed hammers. There's so much going on on the skin of the 'Eavy Metal models and trying to replicate it is fun but also challenging in many ways!

I personally like the contrast, it adds to the sense of them being infected, as well as working in confined spaces.

Look forward to seeing the glow effects, if you decide to go ahead with it

Beautiful work on the Aberrants, their major feature the skin is looking especially good. The little touches like the veins and almost bruise type transitions really set them apart.

Agreed on the Neophyte kit, it is great stuff. I think I would have liked a bit more scope for customisation but you cannot have everything. I may be too scared to drill out the shotgun barrels though...
