From the AoS thread on Warseer - probably related to the Age of Sigmar boardgame, rumored by Sad Panda (quotes in the 1st post of this topic) which should be out in about two months

From guy on Facebook:
New Audiobook fluff hints- Astral Templars are hardcore. Tribal Stormcast. Animal skins and blood war paint- scarification and tattoos. Drinking ogor blood. They are to the Hammers what the Space Wolves are to Ultras.
Also Auxiliary Chambers- non Stormcast allies. Free people bowmen and spearman- denizens of the realm who ally themselves to the Stormhosts that visit.
I'll keep you posted spiked free of any pertinent fluff aspects

.....I am super curious who the antagonists are. The fear is that it is the Stormcast, though a warhammer quest or even pit fighter style game could allow for bespoke minis from various different factions.

Regarding Tzeentch, Sad Panda said that this years AOS focus was Tzeentch but that a Lord of Change had not yet been started. I hope that helps your purchasing decision Mesothere.
GD's are all finished and have been for some time, however I do not know if the LoC and other unreleased ones will get AoS'd before release (i.e. have slight alterations), FYI the Big Nurgle thing from End Times was originally going to be a GUO.
BTW, did Sad Panda post about HH game over a year before release? or the Deathwatch v Genestealer game (again over a year before release) or the Execution Force game ...... etc etc, well you get the point
75hastings69
Did you see what I highlighted in your post?
BTW I am officially retired now so it doesn't matter anyway, that Dakka accuracy thing was always a bone of contention with me, as I saw and heard about things at such an early stage they did not always see release, for example I know of several O&G things that existed as CAD files but didn't get released..... yet, likewise the TK colossus thingy. I have a bunch of negative scores on there for blood bowl alone, most of which are due to the project being started then canned, then started again etc.

Thank you kindly for the update. I suppose it wont hurt to just wait for this new release. Praying i wont be a pack with some existing models in - not in need of any more Pink Horrors!
AFAIK it's all new. Some of it kind of existing but with a new twist. If that makes any sense?

Thanks for the info, Hastings! Sounds really cool. Could you shed any light on the Aelves? No one seems to know anything...other than BL saying they'll cover the Realms of Shadow and Light this yr. Aelves still seem a huge unknown.
I know there is some kind of "monster" coming out for Aelves, but as for the Aelves themselves? I'm not sure if the aesthetic has changed at all, in fact I'm almost certain someone told me they were just repacks (along the lines of the Lizardmen) but with some new kits too. BTW that's not a rumour, that's just passing on what someone told me. TBH I haven't asked about anything AoS related at all, nor do I mind what it ends up being, as I'll not be buying it anyway

A Talisman-like game? Good point. It would fit both the mentioned Flying Tower of Tzeentch-concept, and also allows for many plastic Character models they can later sell individually.

I'm actually enjoying a lot of the Stormcast fluff. Not overly bothered by the Hammers of Sigmar chamber, though. That gold and blue doesn't do anything for me whatsoever.

Ignoring the fluff and the aesthetics for a moment, the way GW is going about this "reorganization" of factions seems really ill conceived.
Trashing all these legacy army miniatures is just going to drive away more of the old players. Meanwhile, simply rebasing the remaining old stuff would seem to do nothing as far as producing any new excitement over the game.
Maybe I'm just expecting too much. I know producing new kits, let alone whole new factions, is a lot of work and they can't do everything overnight. I guess we are supposedly expecting a few new Orc figures next, but it just seems like we're not getting enough new stuff to build the excitement AoS is going to need if its ever going to really take off.

Sorry and I understand if new models is not to everyones taste but you cannot seriously say we are not getting enough new stuff. I lost count on how many new kits we had since AoS started.
As for rebasing being not that interesting I beg to differ, strange enough rebasing alone is making me revisit and amend old minis.

Rebasing is only better if it also makes the minis cheaper.
I'm pretty agnostic about AoS because I just buy whatever fantasy minis I like for whatever purpose I want, but they've not really released anything bar the angel stormcast that I really like the look of, especially for the price.
The star drake is better than I thought, but for that price I can get an entire board game.

The AoS faction system is THE oldschool Warhammer Fantasy army building system.
1st and 2nd Edition, and afaik even 3rd Edition's Warhammer Armies still had that much more interesting and flexible Alignment/Faction system they have now returned to with Age of Sigmar.
I always disliked the ongoing seperation of e.g. Chaos and Undead armies through later editions. It actually made me quit the game for a while in 5th.

Still early days on the fluff to be honest.
I think they are starting to shape it up now aswell.
They are beginning to add a bit more depth to it which helps forge the story alot better.
As I said though, early days currently with the fluff.
Model wise, yes, stormcasts are taking over the majority of releases.
However, its an entirely new faction so they need somewhat of a range.
Unlike other armies that came out in 1-2 huge waves these are trickling through steadily.
My only bug is that they killed alot of what could have been an amazing story.
We all grew to know and love alot of the named characters, which are no longer there now.
These built the stories for us.
I'm just hoping they introduce new characters and units back into armies again.
I think without that, they will struggle to keep interest.

I hate the idea of rebasing, just because of money. It makes me start planning to buy tons of themed resin bases. I want to redo my whole lizardman army in round aztec bases from Dragon Forge, but I can't afford it and knowing me I'd lose steam halfway through and move on to the next shiney new project that comes along.
But then, since I have more big lizards maybe it wouldn't be so bad.. not like my night goblins where 1 unit is 100 models :( OK, 2 units of 50, but still.

Custom bases are great for small elite armies like my warrior themed nids, but when you add up the base cost it does get a tad scary.
So far I've spent around £220 on resin bases.
Which could have added a nice chunk to the army.
However, I'm not starting a savage orc army and I'm deliberating resin bases too.
However, it would have to be a design with all the GW sizes available.

I have found rebasing to be a fun side project. I have now rebased all my old Empire army to circle bases. Just in time for them to be renamed as "Freeguilders" too :-)
I hope we'll see some repackaged boxes with Order, but I'm not so sure - most of the Chaos and Death stuff still comes with squares. Will they get round to it eventually or will they just not bother?

I think the answer is... no support.
Legacy armies won't get any support at all, if by legacy you mean "Dark Elves like they were" or "Empire back in the day".
What the GA books are doing is drawing a line under the Legacy stuff, it just so happens that the published armies use a large number of the same minis.
Of course there will be new mini releases, but they won't be high elves, or whatever.

The problem with the fluff is that it's an unending stream of turn-it-up-to-11 *guitar solo* TOTES AWSUM BRAH Fantasy-bolterporn, and the whole setting is designed around enabling that kind of broad-strokes, mega-conflict-focused material. It isn't that the setting hasn't had a chance to mature, or that there's too little fluff, it's that it's the wrong kind of fluff and unless they change the fundamental nature of the new setting it always will be the wrong kind(in the opinion of many of those who are unconvinced by the setting, I'm obviously not suggesting it's objectively wrong to like AoS' fluff style any more than it's objectively wrong to like popcorn action blockbusters, but folk need to stop pretending that doing more of the same over a long enough period of time is going to turn Micheal Bay's Transformers into Shakespeare, or even LotR).
The big crash-bang end-of-the-world tabletop-excuse fluff was never the strength of Warhammer; it was a world, a place, with people and cultures detailed from the boring Mighty Heroes types all the way down to the guy fighting every day down in the gak, both literal and figurative, just to keep the cities of men from drowning in rats(and not even the upright kind that likes to stab you). You can't build that kind of interconnected human detail on a foundation like AoS, with its disconnected trope-themed "realms" and vast armies of god-slaying god-made supermen teleporting in whenever the plot requires it.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. True, but what I meant was big parts of the legacy armies' minis range are now being reintroduced back into the world with fluff and rules and this has been very much anticipated - I have seen many detractors complain they don't know what the factions are now up to (indeed, I have complained about it in the past), so this is a very welcome book. Even if it means I have a few models technically no longer supported (although I can continue to use my old warscrolls for them).

The rebasing really isn't an issue for me, its more the base tax on older stuff now.
I'm adding another 40 savage orcs and 10 savage orc boar boyz to my army.
So £107.
However, I'll now need:
40x 32mm rounds - £12
12x 60x35mm ovals - £9
Granted its only £21, but it's another 1/5 extra on my order just for bloody bases lol.
Not a huge issue, just a pain really.

I'm hesitant to buy rebased kits because the models were originally designed to fit into rank and file - and boy do they show it. Chaos Warriors look kind of silly to me on round bases, to cite the clearest example. Others are not so bad. The scale seems to be larger now, too, which is another issue that puts me off rebased kits.

While not actual auxiliary chambers, there is a battle where they fought alongside normal humans armed with bows in the Call of Archaeon novel. It was pretty cool to have the normal folk show up and I'm looking forward to seeing more of that.

@Neronoxx,
Meh, I think it really comes down to the rpg material. I don't think the old world would've been as memorable without the rpg books telling all about the backgrounds and the average person's problems and setting the mood by telling you you're just a peasant who'll die of disease.
@NinthMusketeer, I think I've heard of that one. Gotta see about getting it.

I think they are starting to shape it up now as well.
They are beginning to add a bit more depth to it which helps forge the story a lot better.
As I said though, early days currently with the fluff.
Is that a fact? Can I put you on record for that? "You can't build that kind of interconnected human detail on a foundation like AoS, with its disconnected trope-themed "realms" and vast armies of god-slaying god-made supermen teleporting in whenever the plot requires it."
Is it presumptuous of me to remind you that this universe has a lot of room to grow? Or have you already decided that everything that will come from Age of Sigmar is terrible?
Quote me on it if you like, but do include the whole quote in future yeah.
I don't care if you hired a hundred of the most talented writers in the world and had them work for a hundred years - if they had to work within the tone of the AoS setting as it's obviously intended and had to maintain the aspects of the background which have evidently been designed around selling models and making it easy to keep pushing out big, epic-conflict-focused scenario supplements, they're not going to be able to produce anything that will appeal to me; do you really see us getting AoS-equivalents of Drachenfels? Matthias Thulmann? Marienburg: Sold Down the River? How can there be the same stakes in an AoS story featuring ordinary humans when the setting contains a faction that is literally an army of ambulatory Deus Ex Machinas? AoS is army book fluff writ-large, which is fine if you like that kind of endless bombast or if you just want an excuse to push your models around with your mates for a couple of hours, but don't pretend it can be anything more than that without being changed so much as to be unrecognisable.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal |
