What continues to amuse me is that...as a kid, my father was a big toy nut (he's a military gamer/modeler himself) so I've owned almost everything posted on this page - all of the old plastic toy soldier stuff. I had the later pictured mountain set, the plastic Marx trays, the chintzy castle, etc. I wish I'd held onto some of that stuff - but I moved a lot later in life.

Any thoughts on the Marx trays? Of all the things I found that tempted me the most, seems an easy way to make a cool battlefield on any table. Also seems good for storage which has to be a priority.

I haven't had them for 20+ years, but I remember them being pretty damn sturdy. Not terribly detailed (but you can fix that). What's important though is that the stuff like the Marx trays have been re-cast or re-manufactured by heaps of companies. So the ones I had may have been from a different manufacturer, etc.

Cost wise they're competitive, they are hollow-plastic like realm of battle boards (hence I'd HATE rolling dice on them). Not much in the way of variety, so your whole table would be the same 4 styles or whatever is available.

I'd probably suggest them for skirmish games before I would a full 40K table.

I rather like the woodblock city stuff. Hmmm

This castle -

- Looks neat too. How modular is it I wonder, could you get two and Frankenstein them together easily?

I will just point out the official Tim Mee toy website for all your plastic army men needs. There was stuff on there that I had forgotten about or never even saw!

https://timmeeusa.com/collections/all

I also found these and am thinking about ordering some.....

You sir are an evil man.

Star Fort, buy 5 and make a massive 19th century style fortification.

Earlier than that.

You could comfortably stick one of those in the late, lamented WFB Empire. Definitely in AoS.

There is just too much crap compared to gold in that set for me to get too crazy for it!

Does anyone know of a good set of similar style plastic robots that is/are easily available?

How about a toy farm for a 2 year old being transformed into a sweet piece of industrial terrain for 40k or necromunda?

The guy who did this is brilliant but I think me night be spray painting in an enclosed space too often, or at least he comes off that way.

There's a new line of spaceship toys coming called Snap Ships.

The idea seems to be toy ships you can reassemble like Legos into new configurations. So lots of scratch building, bits box potential.

https://www.playmonster.com/brands/snap-ships/

Welcome to the future…where humanity is under constant attack from a brutal alien threat. The Komplex spreads through the galaxy and growing stronger with each species they defeat and assimilate. To fight them, humanity relies on an elite team, the Forge, who pilots their own armada of spacecraft known as Snap Ships.

Now YOU can Build to Battle! Snap Ships is a versatile building system for creating multiple crafts with action play, and all sets and pieces are interchangeable, so kids can build however they want. The Snap Ships set for Gladius includes instruction for two builds (ship and attack rover) that you assemble yourself and then engage in battle with real shooting weapon play! Gladius AC-75 Drop Ship is large and heavily armed so that it can clear landing zones and deploy a fast attack rover for ground missions. Gladius is piloted by Commander Dex and the spunky Dee La, two of the Forge’s best pilots. Battle gets really interesting when you add the mysterious UJU tech piece that’s included!

Download the free Snap Ships app for more action play and more ship build ideas! All Snap Ships sets are modular and designed to be combined to build whatever you can imagine!

Yep they've been prototyping them and shopping them around a while.

Their facebook says August.

$10-$40, hopefully they get good reviews.

That doesn't look great for scale model type wargames, but neat as its own thing, maybe like Brik Wars

Imagine them with tank treads glued over the gaps and battleship light cannon on the planes, then sprayed black, painted blue, grey and yellow, then dry rushed white to within an inch of their lives.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
For more fighter-scale ships, replace treads with 1/48 fuel tank halves and battleship guns with 1/72 air-to-air ordnance.

On the subject of toy soldiers a company called BMC is reissuing several high-end sets from the 60s.

There's better stuff out there now for wargaming but some might be interesting and/or nostalgic. $10~$20, roughly 54mm scale.

No sign of the Guns of Navaronne yet

Oh man.

Earlobe deep in doo doo

If I remember rightly Kid was getting some grief for suggesting sand castles for terrain weeeelllll https://therealmofjinnai.blogspot.com/2020/06/eldorado-small-pyramid.html I rather like the result actually. Not my work but thought he'd feel vindicated.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Snap Ships are now on Amazon.

Even at $45 the drop ship is tempting.

Just got the saber fighter in for my son's birthday on the 3rd. I'll post pics of the size.

Its an interesting idea, the body of the fighter is lego-like blocks and then you add all these spaceship bits to the outside

Then, they raised prices on the Orks, and I did not speak out because I did not play Orks.

Then, they raised prices on the Nids, and I did not speak out because I did not play Nids.

Then, they raised prices on the Marines, and there was nobody to speak out for me.

The description says its dimensions are 14x19x4". Which should be plenty big. But it’s an Amera Plastic Mouldings model and is listed as a 28mm scale model...

http://www.amera.co.uk/product.php?range=g

Of note, the Amera lists the dimensions as 71cm x W71cm x H5cm.

I know from bitter experience that 5cm is not 4 inches.

Might be package dimensions vs model dimensions.

If it's the same one listed above it's 1/72 and could be made to work.

I think it was Kid_Kyoto who mentioned the Aliens APC above? Unfortunately, it is far too big to be used as a Chimera/Taurox tier APC for 28mm Imperial Guardsmen. It could see use as a Battlewagon equivalent, which is what I intend to do with the two I bought.
