For the Blood Angles rules it is stated that any model that can take a Volkite Serpenta can take a Hand Flamer. And the Moritat can Chain Fire until both pistols miss, but templates can't really miss.

Now there very well may be - and probably is - a rule saying don't do that you bloody idiot, but as far as I've read a Moritat can take them. Thoughts?

Dont be that guy.

That I am aware of they havent yet FAQ'd it even though supposedly it was to be FAQ'd a while ago.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Be that guy. It's still a single model with very short range, so it's not an auto-win. And hey, even if it does get FAQed someday you'll at least get to have some fun stories of how you put a billion wounds on a unit with a single model.

Don't do it. It's not fun, you don't roll dice, because the kills are guaranteed. You just put down the template and the opponent removes all the models.

Nonsense. You still have to roll the dice, that's the whole point! Put the template down, multiply by an arbitrarily large number, and then spend a few hours rolling dice to see how many wounds you inflict.

This will be FAQed.

Technically you could keep going until the squad is destroyed with the rules as written, but as the poor sod you'll be playing with and using that against if you do that we are not friends.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Flamers don't benefit from chain fire as they don't roll to hit, straight out of the designers mouth, I can imagine it will be faq'd too.

Makes sense. But common sense seems to be a super power, so.....

problems I've been told for this idea:
1) for his thing to work, you need to roll to hit, which you can't do with a flamer.
2) you only continue when you fail to hit, meaning you have an infinite wound pool, but no way to access it
3) you would, quite literally, be the biggest witch at your local game area, unless someone bring 2 of them every game.

Chain fire doesn't say "Roll to Hit" anywhere; it just says "successful hits." Personally, I consider generating a wound a successful hit in most cases, but it's definitely open to interpretation.

You can be that guy - but the game will end in a stalemate, you have no way of stopping the shooting to move onto rolling to wound (since you wanna go by RAW instead of RAI).

Yeah Laurie Golding said no, and that it's going to be faqed.

But.... (Redbook is not in front of me)... Don't mMoritats lose all their parent Legion special rules, blessings, and whatnot? Would think that would cover this special snowflake-ness

They dont lose Legion rules, but they cant be affected by RoW or affects from other characters. Psychic Powers too I think.

Apparently automatically hits is not the same as successful hits, as one (implies) a roll to hit, where as the other never rolls, so can never be successful, at least that's how it was explained to me.

In a game in 5th edition, my buddy and I rolled the same number to see who goes first.

Then we rolled again and got the same number as each other.

I went to roll the dice again, but he stopped me. He showed me his rulebook.

"You can't reroll a reroll"

We had to stop playing and go home. No game. A rule is a rule.

my buddy did something similar, I shot his marines with bolters and he started taking off models, I asked him what he was doing and he showed me "A model MAY take the best save possible" so he elected to not take the saves and auto flee, yeah it was RAW Nazi nonsense but it still made me laugh

I believe everyone who says this is going to get FAQed, and also don't be that guy, and also it's not even that good, since it is only auto-kill at short range vs T7 or less models, whereas, say, a twinferno moritat is still absurdly deadly against anything up to and including a titan...

that stated, the hardest targets in the game that fall into the "T7 or less" camp are Primarchs.

Not gonna lie, just once, ONCE, I'd love to deep strike my Blood Angels Moritat right next to Horus, and one round shoot him into oblivion.

It's funny now seeing people having to try to make the moritat broken for the good old days when the rules straight out of the book did it for them

Even without the Ba weapons, the moritat is still stupidely good. with either archeotech pistols, or Plasma
But I just did some roling for the Melta, 30 hits until I missed with just one. just one.

Where is this idea that they can take archeotech pistols? have I been missing something or what, those are praetor (or equivalent for non-SM armies) only, yes? Also plasma is, imo, a bad idea: gets hot on a 1 and 2 is killer. it efectivley drops your BS by 1 and tends to lead to wishy washy results. As for the melta, isn't that only on blood angels? I like mine with dual volkite to just melt any infantry he comes into the general area of. Pair this with his normal body guard of moritats, and you've got a deadly anti-infantry block.
