I was playing as SoB in Dawn of War: Soulstorm, and was very surprised to find out I was fighting the Imperial Guard. This brings up the question: What do SoB and IG think of each other?
|
INSANE army lists still available!!!! Now being written in 8th edition format! I have Index Imperium 1, Index Imperium 2, Index Xenos 2, Codex Orks Codex Tyranids, Codex Blood Angels and Codex Space Marines!

They're generally fans of each other in the lore.
The Sororitas generally guard Ecclesiarchy property/personnel and pilgrimage routes, but when a war breaks out and they happen to be there, they reinforce the Imperial Guard and help hold the line.
Imperial Guard are very familiar with Sororitas and they're often a very welcome sight, due to the Imperium's rigid enforcement of its state religion.
An Imperial Guard tabletop army with a smaller points value of Sororitas allies would be pretty damned fluffy.

Cool, but, why were they fighting the Guard in DoW Soulstorm?

Because Soulstorm is stupid for a wide variety of reasons.
In this particular case it's because the campaign mode decided to pit every playable army in the game against each other and completely ignored the fact that loyalist Space Marines, Imperial Guard and Sisters of Battle are all actually allies in the lore.
Ultimately you could blame the fact that GW wrote the Imperium to be half of the game's Codexes while pretty much every other faction in the game is limited to a single Codex. If the Imperium had simply been represented as an "Imperium Codex" it probably wouldn't be an issue as in Soulstorm you could play The Imperium which would have Imperial Guard, Sisters of Battle AND Space Marines among its units, and maybe Squats too. Also each of those sub-factions would be restricted to a handful of units.

Also the Imperium has catgirls. They're called Felinids. They also come in catboy, catlady, and catman variations.
Here's an artist's rendition of what the Imperium's negotiations with them would've been like.

Variable - but usually positive
The Guard (even veterans) are usually respectful of the Battle Sisters and often a little awed. The Hospitilar are especially well regarded due to the quality of their medical care
The Sororitas for their part understand that the Imperium depends on the men and women of the guard, those who fight for Him are well regarding. They may be a little rough around the edges - but compared to some of the Asrates they are pretty normal.

The 'cannon' reason SoB and IG were fighting in Soulstorm is because the Cannoness named the Lord General incompetent for allowing the sector to get into that state of affairs, and when he refused to step down she named him heretic and got the Sororitias gears rolling.
In the Ciaphias Cain novels he interacts with the SoB several times. He has a distrust of them, viewing their zealotry a danger on the battlefield as they didn't follow his orders therefore you couldn't make plans around them. They were so happy to go Martyr themselves they couldn't be trusted to hold the line instead of running after retreating xenos. On the otherhand during an invasion of a Scholar Progium (or some such fake latin) the Sister Novices proved very effective under Veterans commands, being better trained and more effective then any of his other troops.
So the average Guardsmen would be happy to see a SoB on the battlefield beside him, however the commanders may not. Since they don't share the same command structure things can get complicated.

To toss a little nugget out there: Adepta Sororita Hospitalliers are commonly seen attached to Guard Medico units and are nicknamed "Angels of Mercy" by the troopers.
And then you have stuff like this showing a Sister of Battle and a Guardsman adorably flirting: http://lutherniel.deviantart.com/gallery/46787308/W40K-Bolter-to-Kokoro

Indeed - all good points. Also worth noting that Cain's own Regiments veteran (and commanding) officers are also in awe of the Sisterhood.

I disagree. But then again I have a soft spot for romance stories, even when they're a bit silly.
At least it's a pure and innocent romance story versus some of the stuff I've seen in the romance section in book stores.

Nothing wrong with a bit of romance, the best BL novels often have it - even if it is doomed. ADB, Abnet and Mitchel all have it and their books are better for it.

You know you've been reading too many manga stories when you read " BL" as "Boy's Love" and not "Black Library".
Worst part is that it's not even a genre I read.

Saw a VG Cats comic theorizing what a Left 4 Dead romance novel's dialogue would be.
From memory, the character reading a random section from the book expressed it thusly:
"'TAAAAAAAAANK!' Bill screamed, his nipples erect. A hot Molotov throbbed in his hand."

There are some tags on certain erotica websites where those chainswords and power swords would be quite at home being put to their intended use.

The thing about the Imperium is that its notionally unified but in practice, very fractured. The Ecclesiarchy coming to blows with the Guard because of conflicting agendas wouldn't be out of the question.
Consider that Guard generals might deem some cathedral occupied by the enemy acceptable collateral damage. The Sisters intervene and intercept the convoy of Basilisks. The guard have their orders, and to disobey their leaders is to disobey the voice of the Emperor himself.

the reason why SoBs where fighting the Imperial guard, and space marines in soul storm can be summed up with one word.. Politics. just because factions in the IoM normally get along doesn't mean that they ALWAYS do. and sometimes politics is going to lead to clashes. if the Sisters belive the IG regiment has been corrupted, for example, they may well take it unto themselves to purge said regiment

Sisters are generally complementary to the Guard, being infantry with superior armor and weapons, but inferior in heavy armor and fast transport. In most cases, they will be fighting shoulder to shoulder against a common enemy (e.g. Orks or anti-Imperial forces), working to protect humanity.
