Thanks, mate.

It's Army Painter's Razor Wire. I tend to wrap it around a pencil or thick paintbrush to turn it into a roll.

No skill needed! I think I washed it in Agrax Earthshade to bring the shininess down a bit, that's all.

So, squeeking it in for this month. sadly, didn't get the second of the two escorts done, but probably for the best because I was running out of allowed pictures as it was. Not sure I like how the repeated edge highlight look came out, but, eh, try something else next time.
Really liking a lot of the entries this month, gonna be another over five vote month (but aren't they all?)

Hope no-one minds me sneaking in at the last minute with this, started on Monday, but I didn't bother posting a proof in case I didn't finish in time.

So, without further ado... It's Heavy! It's Metal! It's an Iron Warriors Dreadnought!

Lovely work, everyone!

December's challenge will be an Open round, no rules beyond the basic proof and model limit. Other than that, it really is a 'do whatever' as a) people will be busy over the Chrismas period and b) I think it makes for a nice chance for people to really push themselves, then look back on their entries from earlier in the year and see the progress.

Sneaking in late myself, I've been so busy this month but I just about managed to paint up my Mighty Lord of Khorne. Proof below, final pics will come later.

Managed to finish, it's totally not November right now or anything. Still need to do the numbers but will do them when the rest is done, also just realised i hadn't given the metals a wash, can't be helped though.

Congrats to everyone, well done! I'll be entering next month, as it's pretty easy to do an open round for me, as my collection is very varied.
Also, do we vote upon the monthly themes, or is it preordained by a higher being?

Both?

Paradigm if the official head honcho for this un-official contest. He can basically do what he wants, and we roll with it. There has been at least one instance where he just picked a topic.

That said, there are a few “rules” we tend to go by.

At the end of the month, a call goes out for suggestions for next month. Para takes these under advisement, and puts up a poll with 4 choices. Winner gets to be the topic for the next month. Second place gets one more shot in the next poll, but if it fails twice, it’s out.

Exceptions are March, who’s topic is “Space Marine” (and the annual points reset and anniversary of the contest) and December, which is an open competition.

Yeah, there will be a subject poll for January's round coming towards the end of December.

The subject voting is something I wanted to get some thoughts on, it's been mentioned to me by a couple of people that the usual 1-week-ish notice of a subject before the round starts it a little short, and that a longer period would be helpful for planning projects to fit themes. Any thoughts on this? I personally think the system works well enough at the moment, but I'm open to persuasion and can definitely change it up if there was a consensus.

If it were to change, an option might be to do a poll of, say, 8-10 subjects quarterly and the top 3 are (in order) the subjects for the next 3 months. The 'second place, carried over' entries often win in their second round anyway, so this would simplify that a bit and give some more prep time. Alternatively, I could just operate the same system as now, just earlier in the month. Wouldn't be in the first week to prevent it clashing with the actual voting on entries, but if I were to do it in the second week that'd give at least a fortnight to prep entries for the next month.

Any thoughts?

I personally am fine with what we have now. Moving it up a week or so for more time would not be a major issue, except perhaps to distract those of us with squirrel-like attention spans. Minor potential for confusion where people enter next months entry in the current month’s comp.

I do have some concerns with going too far out though. One is that often new releases might skew what people would like to vote for/paint. Another is if you do the top 3 in order thing, it messes with holiday/season themed months. i.e. spooky October monster competitions. Makes sense for that month, but not if it ends up in December.

I'll add to the list of last minute entries.

As for voting on topics a few extra days would be nice to be able to plan stuff (like buying bases that don't turn up in time) out but not essential

Sadly the base I ordered took 2 weeks to arrive so I've only just got it today, and I got stuck in traffic around Oxford this evening so not had the time to rush paint it. Good luck to those that are pushing the time to paint their entry this evening.

Here is Tony Orkommi from Black Squigoth.

Think I should have added a few minor bits to the guitar e.g. switches and dials to replicated a real one.(and yes it only has 5 strings).

Bonus Spoiler what he would have looked like if the base had turned up in time, I wanted to put him on a platform/stage like he was performing. think I will still do in slower time over xmas

Calling it done. Tried something different. Failed pretty hard. Why does nobody paint camo warjacks... THIS IS WHY NOBODY PAINTS CAMO WARJACKS.

Might have been able to salvage if I spent more time. Prep on the model could have been smoother too. PP plastics are frustrating.

Lotta good entries. I just got backing from Hobby Lobby and Blick's and heading into the hobby room to finish up the tank. I figure I got 3 hours left before December! I will not give up yet! I just have line highlighting of everything left...

Keezus: looks solid to me. Maybe could use something on the plate edges or something, but looks good as is.

Modock, really like the mecha, especially the blending. Whats it from?

Midget gems: man, awesome conversion work, as usaual. Sucks the base didn't come in in time.

I hope I'm not too late... finished painting at 11:50 and took photos at midnight last night. I didn't get time to base him and take proper photos (these are from my phone), but when I do, I'll be sure to put them in my P&M blog. I am happy with how the paint job turned out though (final pics):
