While it's true they didn't chose poor selling factions, the decision to make a Deathwatch Battleforce was probably taken long before the regular Deathwatch range was even sold in stores.
Who could have predicted that the new, exciting, long-awaited returning Space Marine Faction that were featured in that boxed game that sold extraordinarily well would sell well?

They could also be thinking that the Deathwatch kits are, for the most part, standard SM kits with an extra upgrade sprue thrown in, so this is basically also a C:SM battleforce.

The Warhammer 40k Facebook page posted up that yes, these boxes do in fact contain Formations.
Warhammer 40,000 Hey >Name Redacted by Me< - I have just had a word with the helpful guys over in Customer Services and they tell me there ARE indeed formation rules in these boxes! Exciting, right?! *starts plotting which one to buy*

And, at some point this month according to my December White Dwarf, HH book 7: Inferno from WD?
I'll have to re-read that part of the White Dwarf tonight, but I believe it said "This month". Since it's the December WD, I had assumed that meant this month.

I could be wrong, obviously.
I could swear it says something about February. I don't get White Dwarf unless it interests me, but I flip through a friend's copy when we do build days on occasion.

From what I understand when White Dwarf went to press they were planning a December release for Inferno but it has since been delayed until Feb.

At the time of print the information was correct, but this has since then been changed and pushed back sadly. It's still February most likely at this point.
I am looking forward to the Witchblade Task Force formation. I have everything needed to run it by virtue of having everything in the box for my Deathwatch short of one Razorback.

Fair enough.
Thanks for the clarifications, all.
Also, what comes out this Saturday. Battle forces AND the 2 books?

Somewhere in the next month, we have a new Base color in the form of "Deathguard Green". "Agents of the Imperium" preorders were(from what I remember in White Dwarf) December 10th and releasing on the 17th.
I am actually hoping that the Watchblade Task Force offers a nice alternative to the Black Spear Strike Force. I have all of the requisite models (short one Razorback and a couple bikes which I plan to fix shortly), so I could possibly even run it.

Formations are a problem (without point costs) but given that these are "Getting Started Plus" boxes, I wouldn't expect anything insane like Skyhammer Annihilation Force was as far as limited access formations go.

And for the record 'limited availability' only means 'google image it on my phone if there's an issue.

Yeah. I wonder how many skyhammer formation users actually bought that box...
I seriously, SERIOUSLY, hope this battleforces are not limited to December. I don't have the money and, unfortunaly, I want seven of those boxes. Hey, many of us thought that the SC! boxes would be limited only, and they are now on, if not the, must successful product GW has had in a while.
They are mentioning thems as great Christmass gifts, so are they doing with the Citadel cases and boxed games, and GW even mentioned the SC! when they revealed the Battleforce via Facebook. Not only that, each Battleforce has an individual AND branded name. Of course GW has discontinued branded products before, but only for holidays? why even bother? and remember, this is the GW under Kevin's mantle.
Well, we are just hours away now. I did the math for each box on Lustria-Online some weeks ago, if anyone want to know how much you could save (and if you missed it, the models included):
AoS Battleforces:
Spoiler:
- Battleforce Stormcast Eternals: Sigmar's Vengeance (19 miniatures; one Celestant Prime, 2 Dracothian Guards, 5 Paladins, 10 Liberators and one Knight-Azyros), from £208 to £100, 52% off, the biggest savings of all the eight Battleforces
- Battleforce Ironjawz: Thunderfist (16 miniatures; 3 Gore-gruntas, one Aleguzzler, 10 Brutes, one Megaboss and one Weirdnob Shaman), from £184.5 to £100. 45.8% off (rounded).
- Battleforce Sylvaneth: Darkroot Wargrove (18 miniatures; one Treelord, 6 Kurnoth Hunters, Drycha Hamadreth and 10 Revenants), from £187 to £100, 46.5% off (rounded).
- Battleforce Khorne Bloodbound: Slaughterstorm (40 miniatures, literally the same 39 the Expansion used to have; 3 Skullcrushers, 10 Blood Warriors, 20 Bloodreavers, 5 Skullreapers/Wrathmongers, and Skarr Bloodwrath, plus one Aspiring Deathbringer with Goreaxe and Skullhammer. And £25 cheaper), from £173 to £100, 42.15% off.
40K Battleforces:
Spoiler:
- Battleforce Space Wolves: Ironclaw Strike Force (28 miniatures; one Stormwolf, one Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought, 15 Space Wolves Blood Claws, 5 Wolf Guard Terminators, one Iron Priest and 5 Fenrisian Wolves), from £173.5 to £100, rounding up 42.15% off.
- Battleforce Tau Empire: Targeted Reconnaissance Cadre (26 miniatures; one XV95 Ghostkeel Battlesuit with two XV5 Stealth Drones, one Tau Commander with one drone, one Broadside Battlesuit and two Drones, one Tau Devilfish, 10 Tau Pathfinders with one Pulse Accelerator Drone, one Grav-inhibitor Drone and one Recon Drone, and 3 XV25 Stealth Suits with one markerlight Drone), from £163.5 to £100, saving 38.83% rounding up.
- Battleforce Adeptus Mechanicus: Eradication Cohort (17 miniatures, a mix of Cult Mechanicus and Skitarii models; two Kastelan Robots and one Cybernetica Datasmith, three Adeptus Mechanicus Battle Servitors, one Ironstrider Ballistarius/Sydonian Dragoon, 5 Adeptus Mechanicus Sicarians and 5 Adeptus Mechanicus Electro-Priests), from £159.5 to £100, 37% off.
- Battleforce Deathwatch: Watchblade Taskforce (27 miniatures; 15 Deathwatch Space Marines, 5 Deathwatch Bikers, 5 Deathwatch Terminators, one Deathwatch Transport and one Watch Master, and 3 upgrade frames included for the Terminators, Bikers and Transport), from £171 to £100, 41% off, rounded down.
Lord Kragan wrote: Death has Vlagorescu's box, which makes saving of 90-ish dollars. Considering flesh-eater courts is the only solid army death has it's understandable. Order has the most armies too. I on the other hand am disappointed witht he Ironjawz starter, mainly because the bloody giant stands like a sore thumb since you need to have 100% ironjawz to make a legal list. You're saving 80 dollars but 40 of those most likely won't see use. Meanwhile the start collecting is like 70 dollars of savings and everything will see use, even if you buy multiple boxes.
Erhm, no, Vlagorescu's gone since months, some time after the SC! box was released. Also, if you don't like the Gargant, then don't use it. It costs almost the same as an Ardboys box, so maybe you could swap him with someone else who wants a Gargant. Also the Gargants are super cheap monster and available for both Destruction and Chaos, and is available for many factions if you are still playing Fantasy editions. And as far as I know you can deploy mixed armies, but only choose one allegiance, not to mention that there could be a possible Warscroll Battalion.
Yeah, I would like the Maw-krusha instead too, yet the Sylvaneth didn't got Alarielle and the Stormcast didn't got a Stardrake either. And considering that both Ironjawz and Sylvaneth get the whole miniature range minus those models, and around 2000 points worth in units with one Battleforce and 2 SC!, GW would still like to sell the biggest models at full price. Fair enough.
