Also, for you traditionalists (or whiners), the name Eldar isn’t being removed from the canon either, they still are called/call themselves that, it’s just they can be called both in the same way the Imperial Guard are the Imperial Guard and the Astra Militarum. As a writer it sure is easier when there are multiple names you can use for things.
*sigh*
The Aeldari™ it is.
On the bright side, we all just read a black library author string together a few sentences, and didn't have to pay a few bucks for the privilege. Read it because the enigmatic Aeldari just clashed with the Astra Militarum, nobody won.

Not sure I would take anything one of the hacks at black libary says about fluff too seriously. I mean it is the home of back flipping terminators and rhino surfing eldar.
Besides McNiven regularly comes across as a right tool in his blog, he seems to resent the actual players of the game who like the existing fluff as it stops him turning out any old tosh.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis |

it might have something to do with the fact that a good portion of the Fandom behaves exactly as he describes.

I honestly don't know why GW are bothering with this renaming nonsense. Surely they realise that it's actually harming their branding?
Boxes of Eldar models on the shelf are far more recognisable than boxes of Aeldari. Ditto Imperial Guard and Astra Millitarum and Dwarfs and Duardin.
It's futile to try and get one over on the third party bits makers who will simply carry on regardless.

Except they can rename it for business reasons, but to you, me and any other Sad Old Git Gamer (SOGG for short?) a Stunty is a Stunty, Gobbos are Gobbos and so on and so forth. So it doesn't really change anything?

Nah. GW doesn't compete in crowded shelf spaces. You either know what the product is about, or you're drawn to fancy looking miniatures. In either case, the name on the box means little.
Aledari is likely easier to trademark than Eldar, given GW uses the terms in a bunch of different media.

Unless you're a parent or significant other looking for the box, because the stupid name is embarrassing to try and pronounce when asking the staff.

From experience, you tend to get descriptions of the models, rather than an actual name (my favourite one? Little green robots.....worst one? Orcs....I mean, what type, man! WHAT TYPE?)

We were wrong. It's not the 40k End Times. It's the Trademarkening.
Well GW went with Aelves. Only expected they do the same thing here thinking somehow name change will prevent 3rd party competition rather than producing products customers want to buy.

Can anyone explain why people are locking on to part of what the author person said one part of the name change, but completely conveniently ignoring the fact that the name Eldar is also staying in use?

But that's it. They limit their products to those who know your system already. Ie old customers. That's not particularly good way to attract new customers...
They don't gain sales by renaming. They lose them.

No, because new customers do not care if they are called Eldar, Aeldari, Pointy Pointy Fru Fru, Space Elves, or anything else...they will say "These look cool!"

I'm on my phone so they're a bit worse but I think it looks rather a lot like ... is that "Salvation" in the top right (seems appropriate, if it IS for Ynnead!)? With an added infinity symbol, horns and slightly larger head? It is very close to scorpions and autarchs too though, and quite like one on p.149 of the Craftworlds codex.
It’s a bit of a stretch. I think a number of other runes look closer. Who knows though.
In the 3rd ed Craftworld Eldar supplement ( pg. 17), there is a fluff piece with Eldrad reaching his mind out into the infinity circuit and feeling the slow pulse of Ynnead growing. This is the rune at the start of it:
It has the eye associated with seers, but lacks the triangle that is core to most runes. Might be nothing, or the rune to Ynnead.

Deadly Dark Eldar Warrior
|
I'm sure its been expressed tenfold already, but this whole thing worries me.
I played Fantasy, I was one of those displaced by AoS, and moreover played Tomb Kings. I saw my army get rolled into the more popular cousin.
Maybe it's just by happenstance or maybe I pick badly, but my main army in 40k is Dark Eldar. I see Gangs of Commoragh coming out around the same time there's rumors of the Eldar becoming one faction, and I can't help but draw parallels- as if GW made a boardgame so their stock of hellions and reavers would still have a purpose after the Deldar are folded in with their more popular cousins.
Call it a phobia brought on from EndTimes, but I'm in serious concern mode. I need Atia or some other good rumormonger to calm me and assure me my Dark kin aren't going to just become fancy raiders for Eldar.
|
Like a true Tomb King, change (to AoS) has left me bitter and vengeful.

It's pointless idle speculation with no factual basis. We've already had just about every reliable rumour monger out there come out and say that whatever happens to 40K for 8th will not be anywhere near as drastic as Fantasy to Age of Sigmar was.

The rune used by most of Eldar Spiritseers frequently associated with Ynnead (the nascent god of the dead), and the mysteries of the Infinity Circuit.
But the new rune looks like a mixture of several things.

There is no AoS-ification of 40k.
There is no AoS-ification of 40k.
There is no AoS-ification of 40k.
There is no AoS-ification of 40k.

This has been repeated ad-infinitum by every reliable rumour monger out there.
The only reason I can see at this point that anybody might not have read this is that some people like to fetishize their disappointment.

That was my thought too - sort of a mobile (sentient) infinity circuit that's gradually powering itself to true warp godhood
