Mmm, will confess to being part of the "slightly disappointed" crowd. They look nice, don't get me wrong (well... except for maybe the Avatar, there's something about the facial area that i just can't get past), but ... I think personally, they're a bit too Dark, the Craftworld aesthetic has always been what pulled me in and I don't feel there's enough of that in there. I won't say "I'll pass" but my wallet sleeps a little sounder.

As for the story - I agree with others who've said 'fractured' =/= 'destroyed'. Biel-Tan's ethos is all about rebuilding the Empire - "Make Aeldari Great Again", if you'll excuse the pun! - and here's a group who offer a future where they can defeat Slaanesh, a future where all the Eldar offshoots may reunite together as one. A future where they may even reclaim the galaxy.

I reckon there's a substantial number on Biel-Tan who'd find that tempting. Very tempting indeed. Especially if - this being 40k - the reveal happens while/just after they take a good kicking which threatens the VERY LITERAL Fracturing. Of course - again, this being 40k - it'll probably bite them on the bum one way or another!

Yeah I think the title will refer to an ideological divide within the Craftworld.

Yeah, 'fracture' to me doesn't sound like it'll die due to some made up reason like Cadia did (Blackstone Fortress falls, everybody dies! LOL!), but a schism in the way the Craftworld operates, maybe involving them going off into different factions (Order, Destruction, Chaos, Death). Maybe that's the reason they all get Trademarkable names - 'cause of all the factional bickering within Beil-Tan?

I must say I like the Sword Of Ynnead, although the Avatar looks silly to me. I dislike the headdress on the Emissary, and the poofy hips are odd, but something I can get behind, because Victorian dress is cool. I wonder if I could make a steampunk lady Inquisitor out of her, and paint it like an old-style sleeveless dress?

Wow. Fall of Cadia had my attention, but this ... this just makes me want to run away as far and as fast as I can. I don't like where this is going, don't like being nothing but huge character model releases. None are really appealing short of the red guy who might make a decent replacement for the Avatar of Khaine model I have - but not at the GW prices I'm sure they'll be asking.

Excuse my ignorance, but is the new red guy a new/in place of the old Avatar of Khaine? with them changing so many names etc. I got a bit lost!

Not that I'm aware of, from the title he's the champion/swordbearer for the avatar of Ynnead, supposedly a new "god" of the Eldar - some sort of god of death/rebirth of the Eldar thingee.

Well I just spent the last 30 minutes looking at the various Eldar ranges on the GW website, so Job done by GW, I guess. I definitely think they would fit in a dark Eldar army the best. I like of these models a lot and and I am very interested to see where the story goes. I hope the price for these is as reasonable as the previous triumvirate.

Yep, a swing and a miss for me too. The headdress lady is the worst IMO, followed by the warrior. The god is just so so.

Hope we get some troops (redo an aspect in plastic at least hey GW?)

The Imperial ones are much better and its a shame because things were looking good for this series. Maybe the book will be worth it though and maybe with it the models will grow on those like me who aren't fans.

How the Biel-tan sees rebuilding the Eldar Empire is likely different to whatever these new Ynnead followers are proposing, especially if it involves working with the Dark Eldar.

Ynnead followers up til now have been seen as sort of those kooky end of the world religious fanatics. Granted if they show up with a swirly Yncarne then maybe some more might listen to them, but even so they might still be dismissed as false prophets and the Yncarne as a daemon, or a fatally flawed/corrupted splinter of the original Ynnead project.

Yncarn?

Me, I need no further proof that GW is about to sygmarize 40K.

Aeldari...

That none of these models looks even remotely sci-fi just reinforces the sense of dread.

Very true, Iracundus, so i'd go something like this:

-- Biel-Tan gets lured into horrific trap as the council of autarchs are horribly misled. Possibly (again, sigh) losing the Avatar. In fact what the heck, lets ramp it up to 12 as we need to utterly shake the faith of the Swordwind here, the Avatar gets utterly annihilated by something Slaaneshi, possibly even partly consumed.

-- Harlequin/Commoran force (with Ynnead support?) rides to rescue. Harlequins preach benfits of unity. The soulstones of the fallen (maybe even those surrounding that dead Avatar?) swirl together and we get that model there.

-- Others, of course, denounce it as a Comorran trick, especially as I can I imagine that the Aspects of Biel-Tan are seen as 'worthier' prey for an Incubus candidate to duel so they're used to Dark Eldar shenanigans, and hello schism.

Yes it's schlocky and pulpy, but it's just quick thoughts.

They look as sci-fi as similar models. The red guy looks just like a Dark Eldar Archon. The Avatar is as non-scifi as the Avatar of Khaine. The woman looks just like a Dark Eldar too.

I think this 40k release is setting up a Slaneesh release. There are hints in the aos tzeentch book that Slaneesh will be found. It would make sense for them to do another crossover release, as they have done with Tzeentch.

It is also pretty great that of the 8 40k minis shown so far this year, 5 are female and none of them are overtly sexy.

That's a great point, love seeing more women in 40k.

As for the models, the only one I LOVE is the woman. That over-wrought victorian dress and elaborate, entirely impractical hair style is so 40k it hurts in the best way possible. And the head dress is just spot on, I can just imagine her gliding forward, jewels dangling around her head. Amazing model and likely to be the basis of many, many conversions in the future.

The sword of Ynnead is nice. The herald or Malys or whatever is nice, and I like the departure from both the Craftworld and Dark Eldar in style a bit, but I agree with the sentiment that her outfit strays too close to standard Imperial Human fancy dress. Hers should be more spooky and elegant and Eldar-y.

I don't like the avatar. The swirly soulstone space-filler is fine, but I do not like the model. Don't like the armor, or the Slaanesh-y-ness, or the size. An Avatar should be Avatar sized. I think I would rather use the Nightbringer with an alternate weapon as Ynnead.

Which we know because there are so very many models of Imperial noblewomen out there, of course.
I mean I can recall almost one (almost because "Mad" Donna Ulanti was probably disowned post-haste), but she certainly isn't dressed like that.

A shame about the swirly things on the Avatar - they are occupying far too much of the sculpt.

Red dude would look better without the fur, imo - doesn't fit with any Eldar aesthetic that I can recall. Sort of like the case with the insanely huge headdress on 'Malys', though the later just makes her look silly.

I like the cat, though.

I'll have to disagree there, I would buy that model in a heartbeat if it comes with an optional alternative head...

If not, the "spikey head thing" is a real turn off for me...

Maybe. Presumably a lot of Dark Eldar noblewomen are dressed in a similar fashion, but with the fan and blade she does look an awful lot like how some of us expected Malys to be. The addition of the cat's new though.

And so, the birth of Ynnead did herald a fracture within the Aeldari race, between the Populists, who felt that they should appease the Mon-keigh and attempt to coexist peaceably, and the Retentionysts, who believed that the only way for their race to maintain its air of aloofness and marketability was for their names to contain extraneous vowels.
