Subject: The Gathering Storm Part III: Rise of the Primarch -- twitch broadcast 3.3.17
ruralguard wrote: I think this is a good thing and I don't see the sky falling. This is basically repackaging some existing models - from the Prospero box set, the plastic Contemptor, and some gold painted Space Marine tanks - and giving people some extra 40k rules to use. No sign of a downgrade of space marines [there are literally Ultramarines in the front of one of the preview pictures!] or the classic space marines getting the Warhammer Empire treatment. Bring on easier use of some cool models.
That would be because the rumours were not about custodes, but a new race/faction.
Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

Can we have some of this 'deadly threat' that the Imperium is supposedly facing?
Right now the faction balance is ridiculously one-sided.
Not to mention they basicly just released a hard counter to the most recent chaos release in the form of sisters.
I have heard a rumour that the new Guilmarines are being designed to specifically face roll marines with the fluff justification that they have been produced to take on csm.
Also GS3 states Robot has 4 high lords arrested/neutralized any guesses which. I am leaning towards the Inquisition, navy, guard and assassin's to make his coup easier.

Id guess Ecclesiarch, Inquisition, Administratum and Mechanicum.
Celestine, Greyfax and Cawl will take over their respective factions.

Possible but I think he will want control of the Navy personally otherwise he is very limited in what he can do, I also don't think he will move against the church that fast.

Depending on the current arrangement of the Council, I'd reckon the Eclesiarch, Abbess of the Adepta Sororitas and the Cardinal of the Holy Synod of Terra along with the Inquisitorial Representative would be likely targets. Gotta kill the raving loonies that are the most differing to Daddy's big plans.

The annoying part of the Custodes release is that there was not a formation that allows Roboute to have an attached squad of Custodes to guard him. Oh well.
To me, the annoying part is that it exists. They have no place in 40k.
The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Based on gw phoning it in instead of doing a real release and codex.
GW springing big bucks for the paintjob and photos, I have no doubt eavy metal painters can paint anything gold.
I'll give'm this, it shows the power a cohesive colour scheme can have in unifying an army, but at the end of the day its just a gold rhino, gold land raider and gold contemptor.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

I agree it is a bit phoned in (so HQ characters, no upgrade kit to add stuff to the vehicles and Contemptor), but it does give another Avenue to field Custodes and Sisters of Silence.
But, this should have hit before the Gathering Storm III, so Roboute could get a Custodes Guard.

For those who don't want to click through and give BoLS anything:
The two most important bits.
I know this was quite a few pages back, but am I right in assuming that if the Fallen are part of the Fallen Angels faction, that they are explicitly not part of the Chaos Space Marines faction?

That is correct.
It's why Cypher now can be taken alongside of a squad of Fallen rather than just Chosen.

If that set isn't too pricey I am well in. I need a rhino and a landy, i only have one squad of SoS, and another squad of Custodes would round my Custodes out to 3. It can join my ever growing GW backlog anytime
Automatically Appended Next Post: I need Stormcast Marines like I need a hole in the head, though. That is a development I am probably going to ignore.

I only ask because according to page 269 of my copy of Codex: Dark Angels, my Deathwing have the Hatred (Chaos Space Marines) special rule, which as I understand it, is not the same as Hatred (Fallen Angels). So technically, my Deathwing don't hate the fallen?
Wut

There's actually a new rule, on the Fallen side, granting Zealot to Deathwing units and removing the "Hatred" bit but adding secondary objectives.

Wait wait wait I just remembered, Primarch blood infused super marines has been done before. During the Horus heresy Corax I think either pioneered or rediscovered the technology and utilized it in a effort to bolster his battered forces in the fight against the traitors, they were called Raptors. Unfortunatley Omegon lead a operation to sabatoge the raptor project before it could be put into full swing.
Spoiler:
If i remember correctly Alpha Legion stole and kept the uncorrupted technology for themselves. So either Cawl rediscovered it from another source or...

In light of them needing vast number of marines fast. Sounds a bit like they might be looking to cloning using enhanced primarch blood.
The benefits would be:
To skip the whole gene seed thingy.
Skip time to find suitable recruits.
Skip time turning recruit into a marine
Not having to retrieve gene seed from dead marine.

That's what has been making me skeptical as well. What is being described is not really any different from the Space Marine process right now.
Until I see something more concrete, I am calling bull.
Current marines are made from geneseed, which has been transferred down so many times over the 10k years since the firsts were made for the great crusade. This new marine is made straight from "fresh" revived dead RG, so I guess it means it's better

Fresh in the sense that they unscrewed the pickle jar, and immediately put him in a walking one he is forbidden to take off. Yeah, you know what, I'm inclined to call bull too. Maybe it's just rumour reverb from the Custodes? A man can dream

Hastings mix up Custodes and new marines? I doubt it. He has been a 40k fan for years and years. If he knows the difference between DW and normal marines to leak that years ago then he almost certainly knows about custodes. If these were cutodes he would just say custodes. He specifies NEW marines. He did say he knew about the plot in the three GS3 books a long time before any of us.
It seems incredibly unlikely he would get custodes (which appear in the very book GS3) and Gullimarines mixed up.
Sounds like wishful thinking to me to deny your new gullimarine overlords.
