Subject: Expanded Warmachine & Hordes forums on Dakka - 6 week trial period!

As you may (or may not!) know, Privateer Press recently cut down on their forums, a bit reminiscent of the old GW purge! But this is actually an opportunity to foster more of a PP community on Dakka, and we've convinced the admins to let us give it a shot on a 6-week trial period
As a result, we've expanded the Warmachine & Hordes forums out to 4! So now we've got a General Discussion, Army Lists & Tactics, Battle Reports, and rules forum (You Make Da Call). Check them out at the links below and post something up!
General Discussion:
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/forums/show/27.page
Bat Reps:
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/forums/show/96.page
Army Lists & Tactics:
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/forums/show/98.page
If you're interested in more ways to help this stick, I know a lot of folks are actively asking about places to discuss Warmachine & Hordes, so would you fine Dakka folks consider doing the following?
1. Post up on the Privateer Press forum, Facebook, and anywhere else you discuss Warmahordes with a link to Dakka, letting people know we've got an expanded section for it now!
2. Make a point of posting and actively participating in this section over the next 6 weeks!
Let's do this!

I get that this is meant to fill a gap left by PP, and I'm not trying to seal that thunder, but are there any plans to expand any other forums?
Looking at the AoS subforum in particular.

I'm interested - as I liked going to the PP forum and reading about stuff - though part of what made it nice was how often the PP staff replied to stuff.
But also - PP has become such a jerk-y company in the last year that I'm losing interest in their products as well. :/

Great idea and completely follow the line of thinking even if Im not a WM player - think its good that Dakka maintain its holistic view of wargaming and try and cover as much of the hobby as possible.
The difficult bit now is letting posters on the official forums (who have just left if they cant chat there easily anymore) know that they can come here to continue discussions.
Targetted FB or forums banner advertising perhaps?

Yeah I'm trying to get the word out, and the response has been pretty good so far, but would really appreciate any help . Targeted ads are a good idea if there's a budget for it, I'll certainly ask!

What happened to the official forum? I went there just now and first I had an annoying forced reading of the rules, then it felt like they were nuked from orbit or something, because barely any thread at all, especially in the News section with only official posts…

It's a valid complaint though. If you're abandoning the main forums because they got rid of the faction forums, why relocate to somewhere else that also doesn't have faction forums?

I agree, but the main PP forums also don't have a place to post general discussion, battle reports, or army lists. So at least having those is a step in the right direction! I'd love to have more in the future if we could, of course.

My take on it is
I think they had become sufficiently negative that PP began to feel that they were a hindrance rather than a help to recruitment of new players and the retention of old ones..... not as bad as the old GW forums but heading in that direction
especially as MK3 has had a shaky reception at best and their attempted fixes haven't been universally well received either (lots of petitions to change X, Y & Z etc)
this coupled with their introduction of the new playtesting form which is no doubt going to need a lot of moderation to avoid it drifting into wish listing and math-machine rather than actual playtest reporting
has meant they've closed down all the faction specific forums and are trying to focus the rest on simple q&a on gameplay rather than broader and potentially more controversial discussions
(so easier to moderate if you can blanket delete a load of content without thinking does this really violate the TOS)

The problem with their approach, though, is that the game is so complicated that faction forums were a huge help in learning an army, where you could ask people who knew how they played (and about any weird rules interactions, etc).
They also took it a step further, by not only removing faction forums, but removing General Discussion, Battle Reports and Army Lists entirely.......

I'm expecting the battle reports and army lists to reappear in some form in the playtesting section of the forum
but i'd agree they've not gone about this in anything resembling a user friendly way, the bigger they get the more they seem to act like GW in the Kirby era

To me it honestly feels like PP in the last year or so has hired some sort of outside business consultant to help them grow/manage the company. A lot of their recent decisions reek of soulless corporate overlord to me.

Exactly right. All the things that made me overlook the trash quality minis are being repealed or replaced with Draconian Kirby era garbage.
We are truly living in a Bizarro minis landscape these days.

You know, Ive heard that comment a few times but I don't think the GW forums were ever that negative, certainly much less so than others that were around at that time. Think there were always a lot of 'yay space marines!' posts by younger players rather than anything else.
I think they were stopped because the forum tech was outdated and clunky compared to other forums and it was also the onset of when the company started to ostrasize itself from the fans, so perhaps less of an appetite to update the forum and staff to moderate it.

They may have to get used to the change of having no faction forums. At least for the time being.
Not to project, but it's almost typical behaviour of gamers used to this particular game culture, expecting things to just fall into their lap. They want faction forums? Then come here and chatter like monkeys for a few weeks.

I'll bet it's just because they haven't perfected the time travel technology yet.
