Seems the only reason to list the sniper rifle under basic is for the Inquisitor, the only one with access to the shooting skill table.

It seems that a lot of the equipment listed is pretty arbitrary and was thrown together in short order without any consideration for theme or flavour. Hell, the only three pieces of wargear available to standard units that are distinctly Inquisitional are the venom talon, rad grenades, and plasma syphon, none of which are even particularly good. This is doubly troubling when you consider that this is supposed to be distilled down to just the Ordo Xenos, the organization that specializes in xenos technology and weaponry. Where's the weird and wacky alien tech?

Basically the only thing the list has going for it is access to stormshields and a 3W leader. Certainly not flavour, because there's none of that here.

The venom talon, rad grenades and plasma syphon are all Ordo Xenos equipment in 40K though, as are the needle pistol and digital weapons. They're all fluffed as alien artefacts (except rad grenades I guess), so the theme's there.

I find the Crusader interesting. When I read the PDF quickly last night I basically dismissed it as the henchman of the same name in 40K, but actually it's a more generic combat option. You can build a power sword and storm shield version, but it's obviously intended to cover more possibilities. They should probably have called it something else.

Anyway, guess I can break up my own version of Inquisition kill teams to make rules for the other ordos now...

Digital weapons used to be available to a lot of Imperial factions. While they've been shoehorned into sole domain the Inquisition lately, they're not iconic by any regard. Likewise for the needle pistol.

Rad grenades could have been interesting, but their actual effects are a mostly pointless upgrade over frag grenades.

The Plasma Siphon is nice when it works, but is so niche in its use that it could hardly be considered iconic (except for the rules controversy it caused back in 5th when it unintentionally ended up shutting down every Tau gun).

The Venom Talon isn't bad, but I wouldn't mind seeing its use extended to henchmen.

It also does not help matters that Acolytes are strangely limited to flak armour. For a kill team that seems to push for a more close combat bent, the stat line and survivability just aren't there outside of the Inquisitor and his Crusaders (and solely by the virtue of access to a 3++). It looks like Acolytes are basically doomed to live as storm bolter drones... without access to shooting skills. Everything just seems scattershot and messy, which would be forgivable if there was some meaningful character to things (see Codex: Daemonhunters/Witch Hunters from 3rd ed), but there really isn't.

Also, does anyone find it amusing that GW likes to skip around all the Deathwatch stuff, with them being made available as special agents all over the place, but still refuse to give them an actual kill team in a ruleset that's basically tailor made for them? I have no interest in the Deathwatch myself, but man, it must feel like a real kick in the teeth for those that do care.
Considering I have a full Deathwatch army, no, not upset at all...
With how GW has gone weird in the past, I look on the bright side that DW was included at all.
Grey Knights was a very strange inclusion, barely justified with Chaos kill teams.
Have not looked at the new lists yet, I have a fair bit of inquisition, this could be the really fun gang/war-band/kill team... not sure what to call these skirmish teams anymore.

I don't think it was updated as the file type says "mergedfile" so I think they just added the new factions - unless someone sees errors/fixes in other areas.

So this morning I sent the Warhammer 40k facebook a message about the missing carapace armor for Ordos Xenos, and they responded (very quickly mind you) saying they weren't sure if it was an omission on purpose or by accident, but they would let the studio know, and there would be an update if required (not sure if that means an update PDF or an FAQ).

I'm in the camp that it was something that was likely missed in the 10ish days the studio had to throw the rules for Inquisition and Sisters together. I know in my campaigns we will be allowing them to take it.

Shadow War book:
"Availability: Pre-order product that will ship on May 6, 2017"

Seems like pretty quick turnaround for an unplanned book.

They are limiting sales to one book per order, so availability still appears to be limited for some odd reason.

Seems like they are really fighting themselves to evolve a new product, and are just making this up on the fly.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Of course they are. They had a terrain loss-leader product that hit a nerve with a lot of old school and newer players. Now they have to come up with a plan to satisfy demand with a release schedule mot likely focussed on a new version of their flagship game. In a choice between 8th Ed and SWA, which one do you think is going to get the resources? The fact that nuGW has summoned up a reprint with expanded lists is nothing short of amazing--unless you've never had to do anything like that.

I will put down money we will see another Shadow War [inset hive world here] box set, if nothing else to bring out more elevated terrain. Oh, and give people more excuses to buy plastic core troops.

I don't think there was ever any question of that happening. There is evidently more scenery to go with the stuff from the Shadow War box that has not been released and it will need a new Shadow War release...

Why would more scenery need a Shadow War release? Given they hadn't even planned the standalone book it seems unlikely, and Nu40K is going to dominate once released. I'd doubt SW is beyond the one book, myself. One and done. Maybe the odd WD article.

I would say the release of a standalone book would indicate they don't have any plans, anytime soon, for another starter set.

Or that they thought this set would be enough until the next one, which it evidently wasn't.

Given the overwhelming success of the first box (sold out online in five minutes), they would be crazy NOT to produce a couple more in the series, especially if they have more similar scenery to introduce. Shadow War: (insert planet name here) with some planetary war fluff, the newest rulebook and some new interconnecting scenery is going to be a win...

True but it won't come any time soon, I imagine they've got a full schedule of releases booked for the coming year, especially with this new edition of 40K, and taking into consideration how badly they were caught off guard with the popularity of SW:A. Perhaps sometime in 2018.

They really have tripped over a diamond in this regard.
We have all been pining for a skirmish game, they are successful with their competitors.
They have done some pretty darn good releases of various factions we all wanted to see in the last few years.
The smaller model count and big terrain all seems to "justify" GW expense: a 5 to 10 model typical kill team is a reasonable gaming entry point.
It is easy to justify to silly completionists like myself to have a few models of every army out there and not go bankrupt...barely.
It would be foolish to not flog every element of this game.
Heck, upgrade sprues for each faction specific to SWA could be a resounding success and would still have life in normal 40k for model customization.

I think we are overdue for something like a "fat-mat" that would properly reflect an underhive floor / deck-plating.
I figure Armageddon dust gets into everything so pretty much dirt floor is not contrary to imagined conditions.

Not in the short term, maybe. But they put out Shadows Over Hammerhal for WQ which was a response to the success of Silver Tower. Nothing stopping them from putting out another set a year from now. Hell, they could repackage the same terrain and change the units included and reprint the rulebook with new factions included and probably sell out again.

But hopefully they'll just take the time to do plastic gangs for Necromunda instead though.

Could always buy four to get a 4x4, but I suspect there are far cheaper options available.

For now, I've been turning my X-Wing mats upside down and using those. However, I'd really like to get a city/industrial mat for playing this on.

Has anyone been mixing together the Armageddon and Deadzone terrain? I'm curious how good the latter is with SW:A.

Finally, I'm hoping we get at least one more SW boxed set. Reprints of the old Necromunda card kits would be a nice nostalgia piece.

BTW, how many people bought this for the terrain vs. for the rules, I wonder?

The Tau Ion Rifle and Rail Rifle have basically the same rules.

Both S6, Dam D3, Sv -3 and Ammo 8+. The only differences are the range, the To Hit mod, and that the Rifle Rifle has the sniper rule. That can't be intentional. The Ion Rifle doesn't even match it's fluff.

This is a copypasta error, no?
