Unnff. That crane is awesome. I am loving this terrain, and hating that I wasn't able to get my hands on a SWA box for that discount.

Doc's has a combo deal of the first three sets (so 8 sprues) for $129. The SWA box set came with 7 sprues. So you miss out on minis and rulebook but get an extra sprue.

Pm'd for the details!

Well that kits a nice surprise. I was so sure it was just gonna be a couple of cranes and some platforms. I like being proven wrong in this way

SWA boxes have eight terrain sprues. But any combo deal with eight sprues for $129 is still a really great deal even without extra stuff on top.

Speaking of, who's this Doc's? Got a link to the store?

I built and assembled the terrain in my SWA box and had so much fun that I bought one each of the available sets and started going crazy. Here's what I did last night.
I once again had so much fun that I am planning on getting a couple more kits, and I am definitely going multi-level. And I seriously cannot believe how excited I am to be spending money on a 40k kit when I haven't bought anything since basically 4th/5th edition!
... and I'm a huge terrain builder (my usual motto is that at least 50% of a project's time and money should be spent on terrain), and nothing in Woodland Scenics or Plastcraft will be able to match these kits.
You! Oh I am so glad you posted some pictures.
I bought three of the bloody SWA kits for the very reasons you described.
The fits and options are quite good.
What I am particularly happy for is your big cylinder tank being on the second floor and the dome on the bottom.
I was wracking my brain on how to get a bit more line of sight blocking in the upper level and that is the business.
It makes it easy for me to have a larger second floor platform, dare I try for a third? (15" up?... uh, maybe as a "sniper" nest).
I think there is a piece I can add to the bottom of the dome so it can touch the ground and act as a support.
it has some interesting sight blocking properties as well.

Good stuff, now I have to stop looking at that huge cities of death kit.

You're speaking my language, friend! I'm already planning 10" high stuff. For the tank, I am going to fill it I think with styrofoam and spray it, so it melts all weird and looks gross, and paint that with clear resins and the nurgle paint. And then I have the extra dome just in case I want to cover it. But the idea being that I could position a broken walkway above it on a higher level and it would make for a scary leap!

Fair warning on Doc's - they are very slow, they have very little communication, and don't bother trying to buy any pre-order from them that you believe will sell out on the GW webstore. That said, they seem to have the best discount on GW products among US online retailers.

Basically an open "Joker" vat.
House rules on what happens to you if you fall off.

I did a 10" setup that is an upside-down version of yours: big cylinder on bottom, dome, large tube, two half-moons making a platform (3rd floor), exhaust placed on top to look like it is going through.
I have walkways connected to that on the second floor and exit out the middle of 3 sides of the 1'x1' tile so my tiled terrain can line-up.

I made one big factory that is basically a 1' cube that is utterly a line of sight blocker: looks like they make Baneblades (single line station but still..)

Looking to make as many tiles as I can from this consistent kit with the intent of removing as many sight-lines of death as possible.
The armored cargo container kit will help with some miscellaneous blockers as needed.

<edit>I am thinking I will keep the SWA as the overall "chemical" elements with a fair bit of barrels and then many boxes and old Necromunda and Cities of Death stuff for factory / warehouse tiles.
That should keep a consistent theme to it all.

Wow ! Please post pics! Here or in the Painting & Modelling forum there's a thread for Shadow War terrain. https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/723697.page

I just made a trade for another Shadow War starter set terrain pile, and I now have the hauler kit on preorder. Gonna try to pick up another kit at the FLGS tis weekend.
This should give me enough to cover my 3x3 area and also start working on double-height stuff.

I'm definitely going to get one set of the cranes to incorporate into my terrain. I'm not sure if those little vehicles will have functional rules or not so I'll hold off on doing anything with those until I know.

The crane and the haulers are fantastic. With all this terrain being modular, I wonder if the cargo container crates will work on the trailer that's carrying the crane?

And people said the kit would be the skull thing off one of the platform sprues. HAHAHAHA!

In the warhammer live stream they hinted at ways the crates would connect to the new scenery, I guess this is it.

The running joke is "Build something like this for half of the cost- Like we have already been doing for years." I took particular amounts of dig for buying one of the two hooks an ladders sets of the Galvatroic Megalopogus Thingamajigs and the !@#$ I took for buying it was legendary, even for this particular group of Grognards.

THESE boxed sets are going to be seriously augmented with multiple trips to the local Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and AC Moore Crafts stores.

Stock up on Woodland Scenic's materials, and kitbash the GW sets- Because, at the end of the day- THESE are some seriously lacking deficient kits, that need individualization in the worst of ways.

Gosh Grot, normally I agree with a lot of your sentiments, but these kits are the best terrain GW has put out in years - definitely the best sci-fi terrain, up there with the awesome Warhammer buildings they made in 2006-2007.

I can see how you can say they are seriously lacking deficient kits if you only build what's on the box. But these kits are hyper modular, and beautifully so. They're like adult legos.

Agreed. THese kits are without a doubt the best terrain available at the moment. The details and level of modularity are just exceptionnal. Bought two SWA sets and some pipes, but I'll buy thee or four times as much soon,

That crane kit is awesome, I wasn't going to buy any of the terrain kits, but I think I'll have to make an exception.
So according to the leaked price list, it's the same price as the rulebook correct? That would make it $70 Australian, pretty pricey but so nice.

Also, pics of the industrial bases here:

Hope the bases get better, the pics I've seen of the current ones are pretty underwhelming. Well priced vs. resin, but soft on detail.

the only negative thing that I can say about these terrains, is that they haven't gave us a bundle (bar the extra limited SWA), and that they are really pricey. I would gladly buy a bundle that gave me a decent saving, even if it it is priced at 500$.

Edit: 40$ for the 3 cranes !!!!!! they must be tiny

the bases description is "Included are 2 65mm Round bases, 10 40mm Round bases, and 40 32mm Round bases, along with 2 lights, 2 vent, and 2 computer terminals to add to any base for extra detail."

So... no 25mm bases?

The containers are supposed to be the right size to fit on that frame that the larger crane is on... if that helps...

If you look at the back of the tallest you can see some familiar shapes and bits.. I think the 2 smaller ones are probably about the size of a riding mower and the big one is similar to a JLG lift. Just my guess..

It's strange because the previous set, Sector Imperialis bases, had 25mm bases. Hopefully they'll release a follow-up box with them.

I hope so, too. Perhaps bass size will be purely aesthetic in8e, like in AoS. Even so - there are many models in the range that simply look better on 25s.
