I've still not calmed down. I honestly can't remember the last time I was this excited for a new army. I think that this is the most impressive release GW has done in years.

Also, it'll be interesting to see how AoS handles all these guns and vehicles. It might give us some insight into how a Sigmarised 40k would look.

I know right! I'm jumping into AoS with this army and beastclaw. Screw the 0k and it's never ending tide of space marines,IoM, and chaos realases. Always the same gak.

Yeah, I've pretty much sideline 40k for now. Probably won't look at it again until 8th edition, or at least until the Blood Ravens codex comes out later this year.

40k is as sidelined as it can get for me due to some team commitments. AoS is just so damn fun. And plays differently every, single, time for me right now. Really enjoying it.

I am surprised looks good. Only thing I don't like is guns. I never liked seeing guns in a Fantasy setting.

When is this released? Finally got a job, might be able to start buying again. Might get an air ship. Another thing I like is the flying or jump guys are flying without any type of ribbons or scrolls. They were done great the first time but seeing it for a third time was getting a bit tiresome for some reason.

I love seeing guns in a fantasy setting if they are appropriate of course. In real life Japan they had muskets sold to them by the dutch and british but they were not used too widely. Even in historical warfare in European there was a small window of adjustment where they used units of pikes and musket men in formations.

Then just fantasy it up a little and bang. My reasons for liking it.

Quite a nice release. The concept of steampuk dwarves reminds me a lot of the old Rackham dwarves. Maybe they can be even combined in an army.if you still have some lying around.

The models shown have good detailing, but are not drowning in small details. I think after the very good Wood Elf release this is a worthy follow up.

Dam straight. Every game of AoS I've played has been a blast.

I also can't get these fast enough. Dwarves were my first major army and I've always wanted to go back to them. I remember the book with all the unit entries described in story form by the grumpy Hammerer.

That's what I thought he meant, but Sylvaneth aren't really Elves. I used to think so, too, until I looked at their lore. They're more like fae forest spirits, though the Tree-Revenants do take on the aspect of the "defenders of the Old World" (read: Elves), which is why I thought Sylvaneth were Wood Elves.

AoS has not produced any bad models to date, but I was not as impressed with the Sylvaneth as others. Great models, just not my style. Also interesting lore. I had no idea that is what they are.

Took another look at the minis. They seem they can be used for Squats in 40K. Sad thing is why do I think if you want a Dreadnaught all you need to do is get a Warjack from Warmachine.

This just screams Warmachine now. Is Privateer Press following GW business practices and Games Workshop is copying Warmachine aesthetics now?

I don't know how I feel. I like the minis (minus the guns) but this doesn't scream Fantasy anymore to me now.

(Shrug) I guess I agree about the squats thing but I can't see the Warmachine. Armored dwarves with guns are everywhere and the submariner vibe with high class lords just stands out too much to be Warmachine. (Also, aren't their dwarfs beardless? )

Your hobby and money though, so make sure to buy what you love.

I actually prefer low-tech fantasy but muskets and steampunk guns are okay. They add a needed variety to the game. It also makes a win by a medieval army that more satisfying. (screw you modern day gun-obsessed historians and your watered down amateur history books!)

Japan actually had interesting accounts of fielding more guns than the Europeans did in some of their battles. Didn't stop Japan's love of sword combat and close-range fighting that their navies specialized in.

Ironically, the movie "Last of the Samurai" had it backwards. The samurai used guns in their rebellion while the new conscript government had to make do with swords and medieval weapons until they could afford better weapons.

I'm selling all of my AoS stuff except my Sylvaneth and some of my unused 40k stuff to buy into these guys. I love them already.

I love their aesthetic, lore and I hope I can love their rules when they come out - and even if I don't love their rules I'm still playing them.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

Oh I know last samurai got it wrong. As a matter if I recall correctly Mushashi from the five rings was said to have known the strengths and weaknesses of the weapon after seeing it the first time and liking it. Where as at first many of his compatriots turned their nose up at it. I can't find the exact quote right now. It's been a long time since I've seen it.

Oh yeah, there's been a remarkable series of inexplicably good musket impressions when they were shown to other civilizations from the first to Portuguese sailor to Japan showing a Daimyo by shooting a flying duck in one shot to the Pilgrims hitting the bullseye on every target the native-americans put in front of them.

Their effectiveness never stopped medieval warfare, of course. I feel people mix that up with the real culprit, the economy.

Dang, these are cool. GW need to slow down the pace though. I just spent way too much money for 1000 points of the new vanguard sigmarine stuff.

Add this to the not-cromunda, either-ordheim and hammerhal (components only since I have pretty much the other stuff) and I'm in trouble.

Character models are always on 32mm or more.

Yeah, for sure - I was more surprised about the Company being on 25s. I figured because all Fyreslayers are on 32s that most future releases - especially Duardudes - would be on 32s as well. I'm happy to see that's not necessarily the case.

Is it pre- or post-End Times?

Because before End Times they could be a force from Malakai (spelling?) to explore the chaos wastes while post- End Times they could be a dwarven force fighting chaos in the most daemon overrun territories.

Just some ideas.

Me too. I think the general consensus is that the Fyreslayers got 32s because of the dynamic posing, since plague monks got reboxed with 25s.

Your so lucky. :( I have to wait until October. I build and buy stuff yearly in big orders fro my FLGS since I get a big discount. Like 23% total which is huge in Canada, and if I time it right maybe even a bonus discount. I'm real dedicated though and will not order anything else till my current stuff is done. No matter how long it takes.
