I always have trouble remembering to take WIP shots...probably the main reason why I haven't really gotten into the whole blog thing yet
well, I'm mostly on the home stretch now really, just a few more details to do, maybe some touch-ups, then glue it all together I guess...here's where I'm at:
Spoiler:
^man...making that base was fun ...still not sure if I'm a fan of static grass, but whatever...the base, rocks, and cave are all made from cork tile, the tree branches are just bits of odd-shaped sprue roughed up a bit with a hobby knife, and the mushrooms were made by heating the end of some styrene rod with a lighter and flattening it down on my cutting mat, snip it off, repeat - super-easy
I actually got a couple of before-paint shots of the branches/mushrooms too:

I know! I was almost tempted to leave them as they were ...but I just couldn't resist the urge to do the traditional red, spotty, "fantasy forest" style with them, with the squigs, and the goblin and all

Posting here to announcce my intentions of entering, and hopefully I'll pick up a box of Saurus Knights today or tomorrow. I'll post an entry picture once I've assembled my 40k Ork Dino Ridas.

Oh I heartily agree they need to be red with white spots. I just thought it was funny they looked like actual mushrooms in the scorched white.
Hoping to get some paint time in this weekend and get some shots of Conan. Hoping...

You know I actually put an orc rider on a cold one with some warbike guns as a test piece for this theme but really wanted to do the chariot idea so went with that. Looking forward to seeing your entry KommissarKiln.
My fingers are cut and superglued, and my nerves are shot, all from building these five. This is about as Primal as you're going to get from me, though.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

Count me in. Trying my hand at another bomb squig sculpt (what's more primal than running straight at the enemy in order to detonate yourself?). Sure it looks like a demented chicken right now, but you won't be laughing when it blows the treads off the centerpiece in your armor division.
Proof:
I'm determined to keep it to a 25mm base and in proper scale/proportions this time, so he'll probably have different 'splody bits (the stikkbommz are just a bit large for the little fella), but you get the idea.
Dragons! Squigs! Alligators, Dinosaurs, and... Wookies! This promises to be another good month!
It's weird taking a month off, feels like a lot longer. Maybe next year I'll have to paint something for the spehs mehreen challenge.

Automatically Appended Next Post: allrighty, well, I think I might be done already ...it's been a real fun little project honestly...I kinda want to just keep doing diorama stuff now, or at least big models with big roomy bases or something
I guess there's a chance I could think of something else to add to it over the next 3 weeks, but at least for now, I'm calling it done

Omg ZoBo that diorama is incredible! Do you have a YouTube tutorial on how to make those mushrooms? I make pointy toadstools out of greenstuff for my fantasy bases, but would love to make some flat ones too!
Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

thanks! ...no tutorial that I know of, and I don't have the equipment/space/know-how/confidence to do youtube stuff myself ...but, it's realllly super-easy, trust me
here's a halfassed little pic-tutorial
Spoiler:
1: get a lighter and some plastic rod/sprue (if using sprue, trim off any lumps, and scrape down the edges, to make it vaguely smooth and round first )
(1mm styrene rod, 2mm styrene rod, and sprue, smoothed down at the end)
2: melt the end of the rod/sprue with the lighter: (disclaimer: the 1mm rod can be tricky...it melts/catches fire super quick, and can be a bit tricky to control to get a nice round cap, be careful )
3: press the melted end down onto a flat surface:
4: cut off at desired stalk-length...and you're done!
...this diorama was the first time I'd ever tried it, just sitting at my hobby desk messing around ...but it's so quick and easy and works surprisingly well!...and they come out so realistic too, because each one will be slightly different, and the edge of the cap usually curls in a little on the underside, because of how the melted plastic spreads out when you press it down...it's just perfect

Amazing! That tutorial is all I need. I'll pick up some of these rods from a local model train shop I know and try these on my next project! Thanks ZoBo

...actually, sod it, I've been curious about how hard it'd be to make videos for a while now, so I just gave it a quick halfassed go, stuck my phone to my desk lamp with some blutack, and recorded a quick little demo - it's awful, came out sideways with massive black bars, and I didn't say a word...and the mushroom I made in it isn't my best, but it does show how super quick and easy it is I guess

If this can be snuck in, neat. If not, I'm here in spirit.
I put this fella together and painted him over the past three days - only undone picture I have is one from my cell phone after priming and starting on some base coats.
The end result:
I suppose that's as primal as it's going to get this month! Generic beastie for Mordheim/Necromunda/Dungeon Crawls etc.

My ancient "lab"
Real sad I started my Slaughterpriest earlier, woulda done him. But, I do have a plethora of Dryads to get done. I'll start with 3, but if I have the time I might add 2 more. That OK Para?
My WIP, I've built the thing this morning, and damn, there are so many breakable parts on it! There is no way that this thing would survive being stored in foam, I see magnets in my future, lots of magnets...
So, first a shot of my new workspace under the loft bed in my parnters' flat...
Those spindly things look soooo breakable...
But the result is very impressive, now on to the hard part: painting...
