Yeah, the setting was already grimdark at the beginning during the Age of Chaos where lands were overrun with daemons, monsters and cannibals, prosperous lands were reduced to hellscapes of warp tainted areas with tortured animals/people, people were either hiding in caves or secluded villages while kingdoms were casually slaughtered or so fanatical for deliverance that impure babies would be thrown out to die(Daemon of the Deep) and death could either see your soul devoured by daemons or conscripted by Nagash to defend his besieged realm.

Meanwhile the only hope for these realms was a God-king who closed the gates of his realm and had to abandon his desperate people who couldn't make it in time, performed ruthless purges on refugees who showed any hint of chaos and assembled an army of warriors drawn from people who were a second from death as they watched everything they loved killed in front of their eyes.

I'll be impressed if things can be darker than that.

As X-king said, the realms are big enough to house both grimdark and grimbright and make a good balance of it.

I've never played fantasy or Sigmar, but the fact that the Death spectre thing has a Night Lords bat wing helmet has me piqued. I could use it as a daemon herald.

Bat-winged helmets have been a staple of the Vampire Counts for many years.

So what all would one have to read in order to get caught up on AoS's story so far? I assume all of the Realmgate Wars books for sire

Haha, indeed.

Though skipping to City of Secrets and Spear of Shadows wouldn't be that bad a move for some excellent reads in the series (Iron Dragon is really great too with the Overlords).

This is a bit outdated but still a good reference for reading order.

Sweet! I actually predicted that the Destruction champion would be a Grot. Also, I wonder if tomorrow's reveal will be the order champion. If so, those definitely look like antlers, so Wanderers?

Don't you get my hopes up! Don't you dare!

I've been tinkering with my Wanderers in preparation for a campaign next year. Them getting an Order Champion would be amazing.

I quite like that goblin. I'll get him, although for sure I'm not expanding afterwards.

If so, those definitely look like antlers, so Wanderers?

Although it'd nice, if there would be something for elves, the high elves seem to be completely forgotten by GW.

The present for tomorrow has an Aquila tag so I’m thinking it might be 40k related? I like the grot though.

The High Elves actually focused pretty heavily in the Firestorm stuff.

Phoenicium is home to the Phoenix Temple stuff of old and has some other goodies while Tempest's Eye has the Swifthawk Agents and the other stuff that's remained. I think Anvilgard or Hallowheart has the Order Draconis, meaning Dragonblades.

Only High Elf stuff I can't think of as tied to one of the "new cities" is Lion Rangers...but that's not a bad thing since they're nomadic and tend to be Azyr instead of elsewhere.

That Night Goblin Shaman hurts my brain, just a little bit.

That's what I though initially, but it's not a true Aquilla. It has some sort of a crown on it.

Eh... you do realize that's the Warhammer community logo, don't you? It has the aquila AND the order symbol on top of the aquila.

I feel the thing is too lanky to be nurgle related.

The wrapped up thing? I thought it looked like a nurgling.

Has the aquila been done with the added 'lightning' bit on the top? It kinda looks like it's representing both 40k and AoS and the new nurgle stuff could be used in both systems.

Not a fan of that goblin. Rather a new Stormcast

Could be showing the new Great Unclean One tomorrow? The horns seem fairly Nurgly and it could be a stylised illustration that’s ‘wrapped up’. Plus, it’s a big model lots of people have wanted for a long time and works for AoS and 40k so would be a good thing to show on Christmas.

So someone on tg commented ten hours prior to the reveal that the remaining heralds would be a gobbo and an aelf... considering he's nailed the first...

I remember that you did, good job calling it!

I was betting on a Grot too since the heroes seem to be factions on the backburner.

Hoping for Wanderer too!
(Won't be surprised if Nurgle release though, kudos to the packaging not rotting. )

Oh my lawd.

I'm guessing it'll be that aelf with the pet snake Dragon thing wrapped around his/her arm that was on the rumour engine yonks ago.

Woooow that gobbo is pure love! Paint job is a but garish though, would look better a bit more muted with only a few areas of strong color.

I'm thinking that someone's right on the money with Wanderers to be honest.
The AoS Facebook page commented that this new guy is in fact a Moonclan Grot, not anything new.

Loving the goblin. I hope we get updated gobbo’s next (after whatever new army comes first possibly death) so I can finally make my grand alliance destruction with more modern looking models. Seeing the old orks alongside ironjaws is weird.
