Ebola: Three people killed in Democratic Republic of Congo as new epidemic declared by WHO
A new Ebola epidemic has been declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo after the deaths of three people thought to be linked to the virus.
The country’s health ministry confirmed one person has tested positive for the virus.
The World Health Organisation confirmed that the DR Congo had informed them of a lab-confirmed case of the disease.
The case was confirmed from tests on nine people who came down with a hemorrhagic fever in Bas-Uele province in the northeast of the country on or after April 22, the statement said.
Spokesman Eric Kabambi said: ‘The case is in a very remote zone, very forested, so we are a little lucky. We always take this very seriously’
The disease was first identified in 1976.
The largest outbreak has been the recent epidemic in West Africa from December 2013 to January 2016 which killed more than 11,000 people.
In 2014, a three-month outbreak of Ebola in the the DR Congo killed 49 people.
It was declared no longer an emergency in March 2016.
The disease has a 90% fatality rate to date, but the WHO recently developed a an experimental vaccine that can be used in emergencies.
How serious do you guys think this is?

That this is very deadly but has been cropping up in Africa, Congo, and others for likely centuries.
Congo is hardly a stable area and often you will get outbreaks in less stable and war torn regions.
However this is not unknown more is it not the end of Ebola.

Ebola 'outbreaks' in central Africa should be counted a a single intermittent permanent incident. So long as there are jungles the virus hothouse will be there. Its not ever stopped it doesnt ever go away, there are just different numbers of detected active cases.
Africans know how to deal with this, and have done for centuries. isolate the sick. Ironically modern tevhnology magnifies the problem, there was little risk of an ebola edidemic back when Africa was primitive, now it is modernising the thrst is there, partly from spread by mass commuinications, secondly because the old ways have been forgotten.

It's not. Ebola is pretty much stopped dead in its tracks by basic things like washing hands with antibacterial soap and using bleach to wash floors. The fear is that in a major population it has the capacity to do something really frightening if gets airborn, but Ebola in itself, whilst frightening to individuals is not that much of a worry to large, western, populations at the moment.

If you're talking about Pauline Cafferkey, she didn't get charged, while the Nurse who'd checked her temperature (I forget the name) got suspended for a couple of months.

It will only be as serious as the media decides it will be. Will it generate clicks over political scandals? If so, then it will be very serious.
Oh, wait, you mean does it actually have some kind of threat to the world outside of the pandemic zone? No. Because, as stated before and back when the last time ebola cropped up in the news, ebola is a virus that is very easily prevented and monitored.

I think it was PeterWiggin or something similar. I know "wiggin" was a part of it, which I thought was apt, as he was certainly wiggin' out about ebola.

And Ebola isn't even a good choice for an epidemic disease. Incapacitates too fast to do much damage.

Sometimes one gets a minor cold, happens to all of us, but it's really just a nuisance. However, a disease can progress to the level of a nasty cold, bronchitis, or whatnot that actually affects your performance. This is a category known as "the ebola's" (pronounced ebb-oh-luhs). When such a disease worsens further to the point of calling in sick to work, school, or more importantly wargames, it reaches a state classified as "actual ebola's" which is unfortunate for the bearer. But there is yet another category in which one is significantly preventing from not feeling crappy at all hours "the actual ebola's" is this category. Finally comes the most severe category of 'eboloid' (pronounced normally) which is actually life threatening. These are legitimate* medical terms used in real* hospital industries.
*fictional, silly and downright stupid
