Taking it slow was not really an option at work , sore as all get out but at least not tied to a desk.

October painting challenge is something Scary. So I give you Predators from an old purchase of a dinged box of AVP I got before backers got their shipments. Ah Prodos you . Anyway I didn’t get caught i that one or Robotech, but I’ve also never assembled these things til this week and primed them.

If I finish these three I may take on the power loader which I e had assembled for a while now.

Thanks, I hope so.

Progress already. I wasn’t sure about the metals, it was too gold to begin with, but multiple washes later.

Pulled a Graven using purple wash to tone down the gold, but not sure if it’s true enough to the colors.

I am happy with how the skin I saw turning out. It’s not like Catbarf’s coconut crab Tyranids, but it’s what it was reminding me of while making it.

All the models will be on deck plating such as this, the marines are being hunted on their own ship after all.

Yeah, looks ace. Purple wash is the secret to my limited success, but I can't claim it - the legendary Nerdfest put me on to it.

Thanks, I took lessons from Catbarfs Tyranids, just applied them with my lack of skill and grace

Yes, Nerdfest09’s constant pushing of glorious work to make us all better painters. But your DC models are where I drew more inspiration as his are more technological/scifi styled.

Anyway, spear guy is just about done.

I think his head got a bit too much freckling, but overall pretty happy. I just need to tidy up the fishnets a bit.....they are tiny and hard to not overpaint.

Would not have thought to use purple on gold. Predators look good Theo, have you played the game?

The skin is plaid wyche flesh with sepia, agrax, and Nuln oil washes. The cloth is straken green with layers of skeleton horde and darkoath flesh contrast paints.

It’s actually not gold but sycore (???) bronze with Nuln oil and then druchii violet.

Got a little paint on this morning. Glad to be back to my old schedule to some extent.

Bomb Predator.

Still have a bit of work on him to do. Mainly just the beads in his tendrils, but I’ll probably see more to do later.

Wow, you're getting through these at quite a pace, most impressive - you'll have that power loader done by the end of the week as well at this rate. Nice mottled skin effect and good use of the purple on the gold

Almost as good as Delvan mud it seems . Treadplate was just contrast basillicum grey.

Almost started it last night, but I’m wiped out. I wanted an alien looking metal and I think the purple and bronze worked well to achieve that.

kestral wrote:Those dryads look great - particularly as a group where the foliage gives the effect of a moving forest.

I do love the look on them together, I’m just dreading doing 16 more of them .

Slinky wrote:Predators are some ugly mother-bleepers. But in a good and proper way

Thanks Slinky. Stick Around (best Arnold voice I could do in text )

Captain Brown wrote:Very nice Theophony,

The treadplate is I dead some sheet styrene. I think I lucked out and got them on clearance from Hobby Lobby, but they may have just come from the local train shop. I think all the models will get them on the bases.

Well not much done last night, still wiped out from work as getting back into the groove will take some time. I did do the beads in the third predators tendrils, but that was about it.

Also I picked up two more contrast paints. nazdreg yellow (more brownish than orangish like the Other yellow) and Gryph hound orange which looked more like a blood orange color last night, but it was still wet then. Pictures of the test pieces later as I’m headed up to church for a few hours and then taking the old cat to the Vet as he’s not doing well.

Thanks for dropping in everyone .

Edit: new contrast colors. I’m going to give them some drybrushing to see what I can come up with. I really liked the imperial fists i saw with the Nazdreg yellow as the base.

Also started power lifter.

More edits:
My predators are almost all done, just need a few touch ups and possibly some base detail work. Decided to try and get the power lifter painted up as I bought some new contrast paints. Still a long way to go.

Well still finishing predators and the power lifter, but need to get back into my AOS Sylvaneth army before I forget about them.

He’s supposed to have tendrils coming out of his hand, but since I like my yellow glow I think he will be firing sunlight beams to toast his opponents. It’s not like I’m ever going to play the game, so I can do what I want .

Theophony,

While you are totally correct in that you can do what you want with the Sylvaneth tree man...the practical side of me says I should recommend you consider the storage and display of a model with such a large protrusion. It only has to extend a few inches before everyone will get the idea and envision the beam continuing. Just my two cents.

Sincerely,

CB

Everything is looking good Theo. That yellow contrast paint really covers nicely, I may have to try some as I loathe doing anything in that color.

You're certainly going to have a unique looking Sylvaneth army there Theo, look forward to seeing the latest treeman finished. Good start on the power loader. Is that just one coat of contrast on that yellow?

You would go crazy if you saw the “storage and display” my models get. Usually just cardboard boxes with them all jumbled and piled inside. I’m not a great painter, so I have no fear of damaging my paint jobs. As for size, that stick is just for mock up right now, no idea how big of a blast he will actually get.

Yorkright wrote: Everything is looking good Theo. That yellow contrast paint really covers nicely, I may have to try some as I loathe doing anything in that color.

I definitely recommend the yellows, both have proven to work wonders.

Yep, one quick coat, and not too heavy at that. I think their one heavy coat comment they made when releasing these was more of a joke with the two thin coats that Duncan usually says.

Well nothing done for a few days. No motivation as fall has started and this is the worst time of the year with seasonal allergies for me. Just wanted to get back to doing some answers from all of you stopping in. I appreciate the feedback .
