Thanks guys. The yellow was way more prominent than I had anticipated. Even an agrax wash didn’t tone it down. I just did a second Gryhonne Sepia wash, he will probably get another agrax wash once this is dried up.

Overall, I’m still excited by this guy.

Thanks guys. I’m liking him more and more. No more paint has been done. Church work, setting up for a new roof on the house, and printed out this roof for a crypt to be used in a scenario for Frostgrave. It’s a 6” x 6” building which will have doors under each of the gable ends on the roof. In the exterior corners will be standing 4 Skeletons of some sort.

I’ll start the building proper later today as this was a 9 hour print and the building is a 12 hour one. The doors (4 at once) is two hours to print.

Now as a public service announcement I’ll just say, Incase anyone was wondering, you don’t need to sit at the printer and watch it print.....but it has consumed a bunch of my time as it’s interesting.

The big guy will probably get printed again at a smaller size to actually get used in a game. He does have stats that could be used as an Idol of Gork/Mork in AOS, but I don’t have an Orruck army. So he and the other version (same size as this one, just doesn’t have his arm in the air) will get shrunk and used for KoW or Oathmark if they get Giants.

So still struggling to find a direction . Looking through the KoW rulebook and image galleries I’m just not sold on any Mantic armies even the Orcs I had. With the Big Rogue Idol want to be being too large as is, I was looking for other earth elementals on thingiverse and kept stumbling over these “Clod” creatures of various types. At first I thought “man these are terrible sculpts” then I realized they are just a cartoonish stylized earth elemental type creature, and that got me thinking. They look too small o be an imposing army, but the printer can scale them up . So I printed the two different Peltasts at 150% size, seen here with a Zombicide guy and a stone elemental wolf.

The arms on both Clods are ball and socket joints and are printed separately, this will allow for variation in models. Also I can print these at different sizes in the same unit , which could make these big guys heroes and then have smaller versions all around them on the Mantic Multibasing concept. That way the army doesn’t look too uniform.

It took about 1.5 hours to print these two with their arms, I have the Regular size versions of them printing now. The great thing I should they have a whole array of models in a similar style, the guy uses them as Dwarves I believe.

I think they strike my insanity chord just right.

If anyone has any other ideas for an over all concept let me know. In the mean time I’ll be slicing the other versions in different sizes as I start to build a force.

Also mausoleum is done. I have a picture over in my other thread for it.

I'm a fan of finding a sculpt / theme you like and going hard on it to make a KOW army. The clods are cute, I can see some grungy druid dude or maybe a kid with crazy earthbending powers making an army of them to cause mayhem.

IF you're looking for other rock elemental sculpts, I've come across some really choice ones in my rambles. Duncan Louca's are probably my favorite, and coincidentally the sculpts are still 3 for £1 (https://www.duncanshadow.com/product-page/earth-elementals). They wouldn't scale as well or have the ball joint posability of the clods here, these are more like great earth elemental sculpts to support a larger army, then base a crazy project around.

Either way, I'm here for it

Thanks Boss , I’ll check out his offerings.
In the mean time, I printed two sets (4total) of the regular sized peltasts.

I am now printing out a batch of 16 clod soldiers (4 sets of 4 different bodies), I’ll have to slice and craft a weapons bundle to arm them all later. About 3 hours worth of printing going on now.

Looks like you’ve been busy with the printing since I last stopped by. The giant idol is really cool, amazing how many supports he had on the printer. No wonder he took 3 hours to clean up! I can totally see how a 3D printer would be mesmerising, I too would end up spending hours looking at the thing!

Those clods are gorgeous, excited to see them with color on
And it's nice following your printing progress, because I checked and the Ender 3 is 189€ in Germany, that's a price point where one might think of getting one for terrain, markers and the like. I won't get one this year, but next year I may cave, especially if there's another price drop

Thanks guys . They are so cute and fun, yet that doesn’t cover for their brutality in combat.

The Battlefield Clod Support beast (on a 75mm square base) shows just how unstoppable they are and how vicious they can be. On the ground beneath his feet is one barbarian who got trampled. Over his head and draped across his shoulders and back is the body of a knight with his own axe impaling him into the top of the beast as a trophy. Numerous swords, axes, shields, spears, maces and other battlefield detritus litter his body.

Along side him is a battlefield Clod Lobber. A smaller beast which throws Clods into the ranks of the enemy lines to disrupt their plans.

Also of note on the base of the support beast is a 1/2 sized stone wolf. The creator of the Clods I believe used them as a dwarf army alternative. With me thinking of using them as Kings of War Dwarves I decided to shrink the wolf down to fit on the unit base as a throwing mastif for regular units.

Started printing another support beast. Have to go take down a wall at church, so it should be ready when I get back.

Really enjoying the clod beasties. You've already got a themed encounter band for Frostgrave (speaking of that Freddie ercury's excllent). One mistake you've made though when your talking about KoW, Erewhon & Oathmark is the idea that an army has to be used for only one of them with individual bases an army can be easily used for any of them....

Thanks Llamahead . Yes, I knew the other two had separate basing systems, and most look cross compatible with each other, my worry was one was going to use 20mm bases and the other 25mm with one square and the other round/ oval. Though, with the rate I’m printing these out I don’t really need to worry as I can base some for one game one way and the rest differently for the other games .

Seriously, these print out in horde quantities with no problem, unless I don’t level the bed right .

Saturday Night special on Clods.
32 clod soldiers (8 with spears and shields, the other 24 are multi part guys.
Behind them are two trays, one has 19 pairs of open hands, the other has 19 left arm shields (19, because my bed was just slightly out of level and it ruined one set of arms and a shield .
To the right of the bin is something called a Gahled Dhur (Sp), which I will use as a drill team I think
Two versions of the Clod king, the first held aloft by four Clods (like the old dwarf carried into battle atop his shield) the other lounging in his thrown.
Slightly in front are two copies of the Clod Wizard, though one is like 10mm scale and part of a base, so won’t get used.
Also my current favorite is a sitting Clod holding his head. Looks like he got hurt and had to rest .

I found a bunch more designs and I hadn’t even printed 1/2 the flavors yet . After all, what would Clods ride into battle on? But Dirtles (turtles made of Dirt ). I found someone just as insane as me.

Oh and the number one reason to buy a 3D printer. All these guys used up about $2 worth of filament. That includes the army picture with the two support beasts from yesterday.

These are all different models than in the top picture.

You are making a 3d printer look bloody tempting however technology is allergic to me. Especially at work for some reason the computer which wouldn't type due to bread crumbs was embarassing funny for everybody else though.

Still super jealous of your output. lol

I was checking out some other folks' prints and it struck me that some things would be much faster if just made from scratch. Stone/brick buildings for a start.

I was looking at a lighthouse tower printed by someone on a facebook group. It took more than a hundred hours all told just to print and was mostly stone. In my estimation you could make, build the brick section, print off the windows/doors/details, assemble it all, and paint it in half that time. Made me think that when I get the Ender back up, this is the direction I will take with it.

Love the little guys.

Okay, I haven’t slept the day away . Just haven’t had time to sit and post, but plenty of time to walk by the printer and start stuff.

That would be 40 sets of clod arms with open hands and 40 left handed shields.

Behind it is a Zombicide figure for scale with a samurai themed Ogress next to him carrying a Kanabo.

Further to the right is a Clod riding a Dirtle (a dirt- turtle ) the top of the dirtle has a 1” diameter flat spot for miniatures to stand on, so a wizard or hero can stand their and I see easy to change out. Also a Mantic Orc for scale.

I’d been hearing a strange noise from the printer. As I started to type this up the filament supply couple came completely apart. I’ve put it back together, no major issue. It just needed to be threaded back in.

The bigger issue I had yesterday was when I was trying to break a model off the build plate, the build plate tore right in the center. It was a small hole, not even a quarter the size of an eraser on a pencil, so I kept printing with no problem except a little longer to take the models off the plate. Luckily I had ordered a new plate a few days earlier just to have a spare so I could clean this one while still printing. It and another item arrived that same morning, so I really wasn’t put out. The other item I received was a MicroSD card extension piece. I think the one really annoying part of the Ender3 is the location of the microSD card reader, it’s right under the bed and so low to the base that anyone with even normal sized fingers will have difficulty getting to it. Since I have two cards and swap them back and forth constantly it’s a hassle. I guess I’m not the only person who has an issue with it as there’s are multiple prints out there to fix the problem with the extension I ordered. I was ordering the extension and ordered the spare build plate to reach free shipping , what providence . So I printed the new card extension holder on the new build plate, which I hadn’t noticed was a magnetic one so no more messing with clips holding the build plate on and getting in the way of bed leveling. It also has an overhang which works as a handle so I’m not grabbing a hot bed. It’s also so much more flexible which makes popping the builds off easier and quicker.

The extension is now out from under the build plate, vertical and angled outwards slightly. So much easier to change out. It’s part of that gray plastic part on the front that says Ender 3 on it. The fan directly above it is another modification I did because that’s the air intake to cool electronics, but it’s directly below the build plate where small pieces of filament tend to drop . Lots of design out there to pimp the Ender 3, I have a few in place.

So cost of the two (card extension and magnetic build plate) came to $21,00 shipped :

Thanks for stopping by. Now go order your own Ender 3 . So worth it.

The clod army is really coming along, they seem like the kind of thing that suits en masse printing so well. As for inspiration, how about theming the units around different rock/gem/clay schemes? A terracotta army look for the little guys, Clayface style muddy look for the big support beasts, granite or marble for the more elite units? Might give the force more of a dynamic visual element, and make it easier to tell what's what.

Admittedly, I have neither the space nor the budget for one, but investing in a printer seems ever more worthwhile. I've been buying a bunch of resin printed minis recently, super impressed by how far the tech has come.

I have done my job and corrupted another . Poor Poor lad . It's okay, you don't need money or ever to leave the house once you have a printer to make yourself some friends

Okay, so I have been a bit quiet over the weekend, I may have caused some temporary issues with the Ender. Never fear though, as Amazon to the rescue.

So the clogged nozzles I had caused there to be a gap between the nozzle and the PTFE tube which caused more clogs. After reading the issues online and the fixes I decided to upgrade the Feeder tube to the Capricorn PTFE tube. tighter inside diameter and better hold in the couplers. It was on the list to do, just was going to be a while longer. But $15 later it arrived 30 hours later and has been installed. I tried fixing the old tube, but had to cut it shorter which caused other issues and kept messing up prints.

also found the website ANYCONV.com. It's a free online site that converts basically any file type into other file types. Our Church had a Custom logo designed and patented(or Registered, forget which) and as part of the process they gave us the logo in .PNG files. I was able to use the site to convert that over to a .STL file to slice into a Gcode for printing. I will try it out later tonight (6hour print) as the last print I tried with it failed about 4 hours in because of the above feed line issue.

Trying to print a D&D Halfling monk right now, really testing the new feed line as he is a tiny print. 18mm x 27mm x 18mm figure. I just love the idea of a Halfling breaking some knees using his martial arts skills.

So I'm pretty sure one of our 4 cats is an A le.

My prints are coming out great.....when i sit next to them the entire print time. But if I get up to go to work, pick up one of my kids or heaven forbid go use the bathroom then when i return the print is up from right after I leave it. Seriously four prints over the last 24 hours that I've started after doing all my troubleshooting and investigating what the problem might be and every time i turn my back I come back even just a few minutes later and it's popped off the build plate. I'd close the door, but their litter pans are down here in the basement and I don't want to clean up the messes I'd find elsewhere.
