This KS just became ridiculous.

For a long time, the creator has said the "everlasting membrane"
KS is just around the corner. It feels like I've been reading about this since White Dwarf issue #94.

Now, the "everlasting membrane" is off the table. And the KS is delay further.

So, it is a KS for a foam wet palette. I can already buy a bunch of those and get them today.

They couldn't even get their act together enough to get the unique feature after announcement after announcement. My opinion is based on how they ran the hype machine for this KS, the actual campaign would be a disaster.

Hard pass.

Um, it's not even a KS yet. Damn these guys for being upfront and honest before they start crowdfunding. Seems like you are damned if you do, and damned if you don't. I agree the price is a bit steep and they announced a way too early, but give them a break. They didn't do all that after they had your money. They can't get the samples they need. How is it on them?

Because it isn't an everlasting palette anymore and they want to KS a standard foam one.

Plus, maybe they should have figured this out before they droned on and on about the major feature that they can't deliver on now

Yeah,
Price is high but ok if shipping is included/low.

My concern is delays.
The track record isn't great.

Review sounds good, but I will need to see some more before deciding on anything.

Also, since the Kickstarter was delayed, how long will you expect the actual project to take? It seems like you have most of the things ready, except for the membrane.

3D printing the cases, and packing them with the foam and paper shouldn't take too long, right?

Hello, You are right, everything is ready. Still, production will take about 3 to 4 months + shipping, customs clearance. We expect to deliver the product under 6 months time. V.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Yeah see the review says it's better than home-made, but I'm looking at that and seeing nothing I can't do myself for a fraction of the price.

You can buy a very similar kind of rubberfoam-sponge in supermarkets for pennies, a tupperware container provides the same extended usage time and again costs almost nothing, and in years of using a wet palette I've never had the sponge go manky because I keep the container clean and use distilled water. The only advantage it has is the sheets come pre-cut and stored flat rather than rolled, but for my money saving a few seconds by not having to cut out and opposite-roll a piece of paper isn't worth paying literally 10+ times the cost of a home made palette.

I don't like gaking on startups' efforts, but if you're going to claim you're pushing a revolutionary product it kinda needs to actually be revolutionary.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

I've gotten mixed results with home made palettes, so getting something ready made its a plus for me. Looking forward to more reviews.

That review looks promising. All those wrinkles on the palette make Thairne GO MAD!
Luckily we got enough time to get more reviews in before the KS ends.

I actually have a Sta-Wet palette from Masterson on the way from Amazon. I've wanted to try using one for a long time now, figured it was time. Then directly after everything was shipped I found this forum post. I think this one looks very promising, but if there are many months until we actually get them in hand, then I will need that other palette in the meantime anyway.

Looking forward to more reviews and stretch goals.

I have the P3 one. It works fine and was an ok price with a simple purchase and ship experience as opposed to a KS-style wait.

Anyway.

It might be appropriate at this point for either the OP or a Mod to change the title of this thread to "WET PALETTE KS COMING SOON" since the "everlasting" part is clearly off the table right now...

That's incredibly pedantic. It's not off the table because 'Everlasting Wet Palette' is still the name of the product whether people agree with that descriptor or not.

See also: Everlasting Gobstoppers. Which, last I checked, just seem to last forever because gross.

I disagree with this being "incredibly pendantic".

If they stick with the name "everlasting" they will be perpetuating a lie, garnering possible purchases based on old info that is no longer valid.

For my part, I was going to get this solely because of the "everlasting" membrane that they went on and on about in their hypetrain, as I do not have access to all your foreign (to me) fancy parchment papers everyone is banging on about in their wet palette videos and I have yet to find a good domestic paper to use for this (they all wick too much water and makes the paint thinner and thinner until useless).

The "everlasting" feature was this product's unique value proposition, and without it it is just an overpriced fancy plastic box with some bits in it, whatever the name is.

With that off the table, the name is misleading and this product no longer has my interest.

Oh, my pedantic comment was about needing to change the thread title. The product name should change to illustrate that this is a different product than the 'Everlasting' palette they initially announced. If the product name changes then the thread title should. Until then the thread title is an accurate representation of the name of the product as it is being sold.

I'm being kind of a pedant, myself. I am not a great person.

That aside I was only sort of following this. What about the membrane made it so special? I've been using a sponge wet palette for years and have been completely satisfied with only having to add some water every other day or so. Presumably the 'Everlasting' membrane would prevent water from evaporating for longer?

The everlasting membrane is presumably a one-way moisture barrier the like of which are very common in composite wall and roofing construction.

That being the case I'm sure there are materials most can get samples of from builders yards if the everlasting part is vital.

It's quite a handsome case whatever the deal with the stuff inside.

I'm puzzled by the length of deliver though, was the retail price published?

Different strokes for different folks, but I think homemade palettes suck. I don't even like the Masterson palette I have. I like this because it's more compact and air tight. I was a pass, but I've come around the past week (mostly because frustrations with my current palette).

I don't care much about the everlasting membrane. I've been using the same piece of paper I'm my palette for almost 4 months. I flipped it once, but it's still fine. Honestly them removing the membrane and dropping the price is why I'm backing. Thought it was too much before. It's still pricey, but I like the design of it.

The idea was they had some magic material that removed the need for paper towel (or foam) and parchment paper that is a "normal" / DIY wet pallet. Their material was re-usable and a bunch of other things.

The basic idea was buy their expensive wet pallet and you'd not have to buy consumables again or rarely.

It was a good idea. But, they couldn't deliver on that. After talking about this special feature for about a year.

What they are kickstarting is a foam pallet. So, if you give them upfront $ now you have a chance of getting your pallet many months from now.

So it was essentially the sponge and paper in a single layer. I think I actually prefer the present incarnation to that.

I've used multiple types of wet palettes before and I've never been satisfied with any 'out of the box'. This one looks promising.

I completely understand why people might skip it due to price and disappointment with the final product, though. To each his own.

Except that the consumables have negligible cost so you'd never actually see any savings over just tossing a sponge into a tub of water and putting wax paper over it.

A very expensive palette with zero advantage over anything already on the market. They're basically offering a no-name in a fancy wrapper and saying it's a Rolls Royce.

I'm suspicious that the real goal of this kickstarter is simply to recoup money they've already sunk into this effort and possibly even put a buck or two in their pockets if it all works out. All good and well for them but I fail to understand why anyone would actually back this, especially given the many easy and immediate ways to make your own. At this point, you're just overpaying for a fancy plastic case and a rubber band.

The membrane was supposed to be re-usable, but it would also have been different than normal parchment paper.
All the parchment papers I've tried so far have issues with some paints. Especially with the VMA metallics and VMA in general: if I let them sit in my palette for too long they become too watery. And in general, some paints hold up better than other over time.
Changing the porous material between the water reservoir and the paint could very well fix some of these issues. And as their membrane was drastically different than parchment paper, I had hope I would actually see improved performances with some paints, which is the main purpose of the palette.
Having a re-usable, well designed and good looking palette was just a bonus, so that if the palette ended up quite similar to other ones (in term of performances), it wouldn't be a total loss.

FYI parchment paper is called "sandwich paper" (smörgåspapper) in Sweden and I assume in Norway as well?

Try a waxed paper (such as for baking) or the paper that's used for adhesive stickers. The latter is the one I use and it works best, imo.

yes, that is what I have been using ("matpakkepapir") with very varying results. There was a brand that was much better than most others, but they changed and became crappy.

I need a paper type that wicks less water. going to try using some plastic over it tonight. see it that helps.

Well that is disheartening. From the pictures of the first review it seemed to me that the actual paper covered 99% of the sponge's surface, not wasting room.
In this vid you can actually see that the paper does not fit that well.
I don't know.. if it would be available now, I would probably get it. But waiting for half a year...
Guess it all depends on the stretch goals.
