I don't think we need worry about pointed-hatted Redemptionists. Pointy hats was always a minor parth of their aesthetic, used to signify the leaders and elites. Most of them were just robes, hoods and masks. BrookM wrote:I do wonder how Spyrers will turn out in this new rendition.
Well they'll be 3D for one thing, thanks to not needing to worry about the needs of metal casting. The Yeld might look amazing in plastic.

Nah I didn't mean anything like that, it was just a tongue in cheek reference to all the 'Women Space Marines' threads that cause so much drama haha! Far as I understand it the Escher are all women, but they also will provide bits for conversions of other female models like guard and cultists for people who like their cannon fodder to be equal opportunity :-p

IIRC Escher were all women due to a genetic defect, any males born from them are brain dead imbeciles or something, could be misremembering it though.
The novels had more diversity in cast (House Delaque comes to mind, but they're all baldies) but Escher is all female and Goliath has as far as I can remember always been all meathead.
Oooh, I wonder if we'll also see a return of Mad Donna, she was kickass in her novel:

I don't think there's any real reason why we couldn't see any female Goliaths.
A new Mad Donna Ulanti would be cool; I was never fond of the 80s Madonna look. a new model could take the opportunity to give us a look at what the well-dressed fugitive from uphive is wearing in M41.
As for the Redemptionists, GW at least tried to get away from the KKK look by painting them red and yellow, but too many people thought it was cool and edgy to paint them in white robes.

Ha. I see. I thought maybe there actually was some background thing that I had missed. I do always wonder where all the women in 40K are. 50% of the human population seems to be missing entirely.

Ugh, yeah. When I was in college there was a guy who did that. He also had a Nazi IG army. As far as I know he still plays in the local area.

I'm super excited though. i was too young and poor when original Necromunda was released to get into it, although I did buy a few models over the years. Its always been a game I wanted to try and I'm excited to have the chance. And the new models look like fantastic updates of the old ones. I can't wait to see more.

Mr Brain turns to thoughts of the unrealised past becoming the fyootcha.
For those who weren't around, Necromunda was intended to be the first in a range of 'same rule, different setting' skirmish games.
We got Gorkamorka of course. Then? Well, no more.
Could we dare hold any hope we might see new horizons explored? Would be a helluva way to introduce Wildboyz, Exodites and Rogue Traders....

I'm actually sort of glad they are updating the rules. Bloodbowl being kept the same rather turned me off considering some of the issues with some of the more archaic choices.
There's alot of balance issues in Necromunda, Goliath gangs tended to do so poorly due to their primary skills not really working well, and anything without parry being useless as a melee weapon, and Von Saar with Techno tended to dominate the lategame due to the power of it and ranged weaponry.

I usually found my Cawdor dominated the late campaign.
Once you've got a half dozen combat nutters running around with Disarm as a skill, you can pretty quickly break your opponent's favourite toys - and permanently at that (of course, disarm was toned down somewhat for Shadow War)

Yes, I think it's likely we'll see other hives/areas of Necromunda explored. Necromunda took place in Hive Primus, right?
Confrontation dealt with brats, psykers, techs and scavvies in Palatine hive, and while a lot of those got reimagined as the house gangs, spyrers and the like, there's no reason they couldn't be re-introduced, much like the Elves of Blood Bowl first edition got split up into High Elves and Wood Elves, but then reintroduced as Elven Union.
Could have sworn I saw Andy Hoare quoted as talking about Hive Secundus – the one that got infected by genestealers and tipped over on its side – in the flood of info from the weekend; so there's immediately space for genestealer cultists if we got out of Hive Primus.
That's even before exploring new territory – Acropolis Hive, The Temenos, Trazior Hive, Quinspirus cluster etc. – all detailed in the original background for the planet.

Could not be more excited over this, just could not be. My friends and I spent an insane amount of time playing Necromunda when we were kids. I still have two in tact sets of the old plastic and cardstock terrain.

Well, it was nice while it lasted. But that just put this into the same territory as the newer 40K releases - pretty models that I'll look at, but never bother buying because they don't fit with what I already own.
So when did they release plastic SoB that isn't Celestine or a cannoness?

Weren't the Goliaths anti women (considering them weak)? Explaining the Goliath/Escher rivalry
Would also make sense why they are vat grown, doing away with the need for women.
I think the Escher men were few and weak, so they were kept off the battlefield to ensure they could breed.
All the others would make sense to be mixed though I think

Well, that and the USA is not really all the world. Over here, pointy hoods mean holy week and processions, not KKK. I mean, we know that the Klan is, but it's nowhere near what we would associate first with pointy hood redemptionists.
That said, I'm not sure how important the hoods really are for the gang, you know?

You're wrong. The hood's aren't fine. People who know what they're supposed to be may not have a problem with them, but that will only be a tiny percentage of the people who see them. They will generate negative reactions and bad press. You think the Fristgrave Cultists weren't a problem? Thats because they're a tiny release form a tiny company that no one ever heard of. GW is the largest tabletop gaming company in the world. If they do a release of KKK guys with flamethrowers there will be a huge backlash, no matter how many people like you say "Anyone who can't separate toy soldier designs from real life has other issues". It doesn't matter that a lot of that backlash will come from people who never played a GW product and have no interest in doing so. It doesn't matter that this style of hood is only really associated with racism in the United States. It doesn't matter that the hood has a long history in Europe. It's a ridiculously awful idea.Especially right now.

That's a shame, I always associated the Redmptionists clothing with monk's habits rather than the KKK (although I can definitely see the issue with the deacons). Easy fix would be to just lose the hoods and keep the masks. Maybe give them all flaming headgear if they want to go all out with the detail.

Hoods out, masks in. Easypeasy.
Or just come up with some Cult Imperialis robes and what have you.
