Yeah, the list of things that didn't get many changes is long:

Blood Angels, Dark Angels, and Daemons got nothing. We know they have codices next.

Tau and Necrons got nothing. Ynnari also got nothing but they only have 3 units. Assassins didn't get touched, nor Inquisition, Custodes, and Sisters of Silence.

Dark Eldar got the Razorwing nerf from the FAQ and then only changes to the Court.

Harlequins, Orks, and Thousand Sons got very few changes.

It's probably faster just to note that Deathwatch and Space Wolves were the only factions without a codex already out which got a significant overhaul, but of course most of this is just bringing their costs in line with the Marine codex.

There is a bit of that. Particularly for DW, a lot of it is just formally integrating the Primaris stuff from the pdf and the tweaks to those point values.

Overall I'm surprised by how little changed. 4 pages of point values isn't bad, especially given how much is marine related copypasta for the minor variant lists.
I don't think the 4 pages justifies selling a new book though- they should be just integrated into the FAQs/errata for the relevant books. (As, for example, the Cult Genestealers already are)

This CA clearly wasn't concerned with the index armies and was more about tweaking already released factions and FW.

That said, it blows my mind that the holy trinity barely got touched and almost every viable FW unit was nerfed into oblivion.

Still gona see Bobby G, Cawl and Celestine in every list for their factions in matched play, which is not how you patch things for balance. Guilliman needs a 10th wound at his current price, barring that he needs a 100 point increase, the other two need slight point bumps while their respective alternate HQ's need a slight drop. Lets see if they get this right in round 2.

Also, I don't understand why they don't take the easier route to dealing with smite spam and simply disallow multiple smites from matched play. Seems idiotic to keep swapping prices, it's like fixing a leaky faucet on the Titanic. So now a primaris psycher is 46 points while a Spirit seer is 45.... Again, wrong approach, the ONLY common denominator is smite so they need to address smite.

I'm glad this points leaked, they were...disappointing, to say the least. I was really hoping to see some Tau/Necron adjustments...unless there was a page that got missed in the leaks? (Yeah, I know that's very, very wishful thinking).

Enough bemoaning about the point values for now. We'll get plenty of that in the general discussion.

What do people feel about the other parts of it?

I'm glad to see some drops in the Death Guard Elite Characters. Next week my Pure DG army is gonna gain enough points back for a few extra Spawns. Really dissapointed to see Ork Trukks cost the same, but cheaper Klaws is greatly appreciated. Still, they're Shelved until a codex.

I already wrote in the points changes directly into my books. With a pen! Muahahaha. I'll probably buy it anyway just to support my LGS.

I actually think smite is easily fixed by simply making each manifestation of smite after the first only dealing a single mortal wound ever. Brings everyone else in line with GK and TS and fixes the problem by addressing the disease not the symptoms.

Chapter Approved is supposed to be a yearly thing, right? So other than FAQ's nothing more should change until this time next year? Or have they been hinting at more frequent releases of CA?

I think we are gonna receive 3 balance patchs a year. Two big FAQ's, one on March and other on September, and one yearly CA that I assume will be around november.

There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Well, I'm guessing FAQs are still a thing, considering CA does not contain FAQs in it...

Hopefully they get bolder with future chapter approved entries, because if you compare this one to the old ones the ammount of experimental new rules is pitiful.

Yeah, the Forgeworld points don't make any sense. Like at all.

My Crimson Fists only went down ten points, but I was at 1997, so that gives me a lot of options to do with 13 pts.

5250 pts

Deathwatch: 1500 pts
Imperial Knights: 375 pts

The points changes are odd. The sensible, such as Deathwatch equipment costs being moved into line with Vanilla Marine costs, Plague Marines being made a bit cheaper. The needed, such as points drops to the Deathshroud and the downright odd with basically no changes to the Holy Trinity and Exterminatus on a lot of Forge world stuff.

But the right intent is there, plus the obvious boon that Chapter Approved is a lot more than the points amendments. I think I will be picking up a copy.

yea like the crew for rapiers for CSM went down to 10!

so 3 quad heavy bolters is now 228pts so like 18pts cheaper and it was a goto unit anyway instead of havocs...
32 heavy bolter shots for 228

to just get that many shots in raw havoc models is 276pts not including the req champ so more like 315 for 3 units

you aint even really lacking wounds 15 t4 in 3 units for havocs vs 12 t5 and 6 t4 wounds for the rapier....

Good reason not to be indulging in this exercise at all, but rather putting out some small point adjustments (bringing various gear lists in line with each other) and putting more work and testing in.

It would be for the best, but it would require an overhaul of the approach towards magic in general.
Age of sigmar limits smite (magic missile) to one per turn (actully it just doesn't make any exceptions towards the rule of one for this spell), but datasheets of AoS mages include at least one unit-specific spell and most armies also have codex-specific spells to feel the gap.

Limiting smite to 1 mortal wound on 5+ and d3 on 10+ would be much more simple.
Grey Knights and nerfed Brimstones/Blues aren't generating any meaningful damage with smite.

I just noticed that they adjusted the points cost for a Deathwatch Librarian with jumppack. Isn't that an invalid unit selection for them?

Oh good Celestine stays the same as long as you take both Gemini, and the Exorcist is 25 points cheaper, the eviscerator has almost halved in point cost (22 to 12), hand flamer and stormbolter have literally halved in cost (6 to 3 and 4 to 2 respectively), inferno pistol had a slight reduction (12 to 9).
It's rather good in the end. Also even more reasons to take stormbolters over flamers now.

The canoness also needs to be made interesting. Right now she has very few options. She can't take a bike, she can't take jump packs, she can't take anything. Her options are literally just “Do I take an eviscerator, a power weapon or a chainsword? Do I take a bolt pistol, plasma pistol, or inferno pistol?” and done. There is absolutely nothing interesting or flavorful about her. And Celestine is really flavorful, with a really nice model. So…

Seriously, the only change for Drukhari is to the Court of the Archon and Razorwing Flocks, so it's OK for us to still have 30pt bikes that do considerably less than a kitted out Windrider or Cloud Dancer which are both cheaper? There are quite a few units that needed points changes but it's only the useless Court that gets it.

I'm hoping that fewer changes suggests our codex is closer. There are a fair few units that are overcosted, and it's even worse with the weapon options. However if they're working on Drukari right now they might not want to rock the boat just yet *crosses many fingers*

Well, if the Wych Cult warlord trait is anything to go by, I hope not.

To be clear, a Succubus WT lets them get an extra 2 bonus hits for each 6 to hit rolled. But the Archite Glaive is -1 to hit so you need 7's.

I can't seem to find the full planetstrike, apocalypse, or cities of death rules in any of my past 4 eddition's core books.

Could you show me where they are? I hate to have wasted money on books when it turns out there were simply hundreds of pages I missed...
