Thanks Monkey! And thanks for stopping in again

On an update, I got ol' rustbucket on the table; check out the rep in the battlereps forum! Turkey day is next week, and a couple weeks after that I leave to texas for a while, so it may be some time til I get around to painting again... but I do plan to pack and bring at least a 2k force with me to Texas to throw some dice.

Oh, and I picked up two second hand Defilers and a blightspawn for $65, which was a great deal; the defilers loadouts are terrible, but I'll fix em good!

Howdy all,

Ahhh.... the day after thanksgiving. After playing some Red Dead Redemption 2 this morning, I decided to get some modeling in; as I mentioned previously I got two defilers secondhand for a banging deal; $50 for both was a steal! Th guy who sold me them even found the Power Scourge arms for them.

As you can see they were in OK shape, terrible loadouts though. I'm lazy and I don't strip models unless they're metal, but they sat on my desk all week... staring at me. I asked around to see how people play them, and while 1k sons sounded the best, Nurgle is my thing... and I have green stuff... so I tore off the arms and head off the red one, and the head and left arm off the green one.

Then I rummaged around my bitz boxes... I knew I wanted both to have a power scourge, and I knew I could make something look like a heavy bolter. I also wanted the heavy bolter one to get a combi bolter; maybe both will get a combi...

At this point I saw someone post a spider defiler on one of my facebook groups, which looked pretty neat! Of course, I'm not as good as this dude was, but I told myself "I want something to really stand out!"... so I decided one defiler would maintain its "defilerness" and the second would be radically altered; both would have nurgle elements, of course.

So with defiler one, I wanted to change the head (the tiny defiler heads look stupid) and make it slightly demonic. So I just tossed some bitz on him, light GS work, and wala... 20 minutes and he was essentially done.

I know its not super impressive, but that was kind of the idea... this seems to be "my thing"; when I do pairs of models, like my knights, one gets a ton of GS work, while the other gets mostly bitz additions. I like to maintain a good mix of organic and machine elements; nurgle is known for having both in spades!

Then the second one I went balls deep on. This guy was chosen to be the spider model because I had to tear off both arms anyway, but also he wasn't glued very much, so just prying with a screwdriver dismantled him easily. The idea I wanted to go with was a sort of scorpion/spider hybrid, using the helbrutes power scourge as a "stinger", and mixing demon and machine both in equal parts.

At this point I still had not figured out how to craft my "counts as" heavy bolter... but the general idea looked great. I also disliked that it was too organic, and I wanted it to have more machine to it. Digging through my bitz I came across a bunch of hoses and tubes, as well as exhausts, from my Armiger conversions.... herm.... then a lightbulb

Ahhhhh... yes, much better! He still needs some green stuff work over whats done; creating more flaps of flesh, making it more bulbous overall, and combining the machine tubes and parts to me more cohesive. But overall I think the idea is there! Hes drying on the table and I should get to finish him tomorrow I need to really paint more, but I leave for texas in three weeks :/

C&C is always welcome!

@ Graven: Thanks buddy!

@ Monkeytroll: Hell yeah! Defilers have good parts to make other stuff from.

@ Lindsay40k: Haha... I'm glad someone noticed I love sneaking a Nurgling in when I can

So I went ahead and finished up the modeling on both Defilers today.

First up, the green one:

Bulked up his scourge arm a bit more, then added just some fleshy pockets all over to just add a bit of contrast... nothing much there.

Now onto the real guy: the Arach-no-filer:

Some close ups of all around him, including the bottom:

So I placed GS anywhere I put bitz on the model yesterday, and slowly worked around the bitz to make them look more incorporated into the fleshy bitz. Overall I think it looks like something straight out of Doom, which I dig. I also wanted the Nurgling to look like he clawed his way out of the spider, so made the flesh peeling away, and lots of little gashes. On the other side, I incorporated the mouth a lot more, and made some small eyes; I really like how I did the eyes here and might do this to all the eyes on this model. I pushed the beads in, then folded the GS over the bead to give it an eyelid so it looked demonic and angry... surprised myself with this. I like it when you get inspired to do something and it comes together.

Now the question is.... what to name him?

As always feel free to leave me some C&C

Sorry for the long lapse in updates....

Recently took 1st in an event with my chaos! woo hoo! I haven't had jack all for time to paint with a recent promotion at work.... oh and I got smash brothers, lol.

That said, I picked up 5 more Blightlords and will be (hopefully) painting them you before long and paint my last Armiger. This will give me what Don Hooson ran at BAO, which I feel is a solid ITC style list and at least gives me SOMETHING fully painted... at least until I can paint all my nurglings and run my version.

I also picked up another 20 Bloodletters, and my wife got me a box of Blue Horrors, plus a get started Khorne set... so I have a bunch of building. I think this will be it for buying new models for a while; I really need to get what I have painted so I can run anything I want in events without feeling dirty with unpainted and unprimed models.

Another update for everyone: scored 3 Contemptor Dreads for $45, two boxes of bloodletters, and a box of Blightlords... as well as a Maulerfiend Time to get to work... just a teaser; heres the Blightlord Sergeant; the clainfist counts as a bale axe. Haha, thanks! Actually for xmas i just got the mauler, one box of letters, and some horrors. I found the contemptors second hand and horribly painted and the guy was getting out of 30k... the lords came from tournament winnings. And the last box of letters i traded the death angel board game for (i never played it).

I will say my new years goal is that i cannot get any more models til i build and paint what i have.... and doing a rough tally, i have a lot of work ahead of me!

Howdy everyone,

So as I mentioned earlier, I was able to pick up 3 Contemptor dreads for dirt cheap from a local player who got some given to him. They were, as you could guess, very poorly painted... but whatever!

Anyways, I've been sent for training to Texas, so I figured what better time to go ahead and make my Death Guard Contemptor squad finally. Not to mention I just got a Maulerfiend, so his gatling cannon arms would make some good butcher cannons...

Thus I packed up a lot of tools and a bag of bitz, and off I went! I picked up some small tubes of loctite at the Walmart here to assemble the models, flying with super glue would be a horrible idea.

What I started with was three dudes not much unlike this guy...

Way too loyalist for my liking. I pried off the arms, and popped them off their bases to make them easier to work with. As mentioned, I do not strip models unless they really need it... the spray paint coats over it anyway, and these guys didn't have gobbed on paint.

I arrayed everything I had brought with me, and picked through my bitz to find what I may need:

Perfect. I had pre-planned and looked up various Contemptor conversions on the ol' google-ator, and had found some neat ideas. Because I was going to go ahead and use my Forgefiend Hades Autocannons as one set of my "butcher cannons", I wanted the other sets to look similar.

So the first one I did up was this guy:

He is still unnamed, but the idea was gathered from a conversion I found online. Essentially I built the cannons by hallowing out two of the dreadnaught fist arms, I had to cut and reposition one because they only came as left hands> Next, I cut lengths of plasti-tube to make a gatling barrel. I had one hallow tube, and one solid tube, so I used hallow ones on the outside and the solid one in the middle to hold them together. I did try and reform the tubes, but I think cutting it make them perma-deformed :/ Anywho, once the arms were made, I used GS to make it look more seamless, added on a demon prince loincloth and some chains, a death guard plague marine head, and some nice spikes. I really liked how he was posed, so I'm not disappointed at all how he looks. Feels pretty dynamic to me!

Next up I already had glued the cannons together, so I figured I'd make the next dread using those arms. What I created... I mean, look at this guy!

He screams "badass", reminds me of a mechwarrior or some menacing death machine. His pose I really love, definitely gives off the "come at me bro" aura. Obviously I glued the arms to two of the dread shoulders, then added some chains to make them more... mean. I had a couple heldrake pads laying around, so I trimmed and fitted them as leg plates, which I think look really unique. To pull together the heavy metal vibe I added more chains, then green stuffed some of those rhino spike plates I have a ton of but never use. Finished him off with a topper I chopped when I converted a lord of contagion to typhus, and wala! I think hes friggin awesome.

And lastly... this dude.

At this point I had ran out of my smaller plasti-tube, so I figured I would repurpose the assault cannon arm. I added a blade from the heldrake plates to make it more like the "official" Butcher cannon. Then I converted another dread arm, only this time I had to use thicker tube; makes it look like a triple barrel shotgun. I'm not too stoked with him compared to the others, hes alright. Definitely not my best work. I feel bad because it feels like he was cobbled from the scraps I didn't use on the other two lol...

Family photo time!

And luckily when I bought these the owner had some spare Havoc Launchers he threw in with the deal; so I magnetized them as shoulder weapons I kind of wish I had done them sideways, but meh...

Zids model Tally
So I had to do a tally of what I have, painted and unpainted, because my resolution this year: get everything friggin painted. I have finished building everything aside from my Maulerfiend, which hes not getting anything special... lol. I want to keep him basic because hes not a death guard option, and I may use him outside of my Nurgle lists. So heres what I have painted and unpainted:

PAINTED MODELS
1 Demon Prince of Nurgle
2 Generic Demon princes
48 Poxwalkers
11 Cultists
30 Plaguebearers
6 Nurglings
1 Renegade Knight with Gatling Cannons and Icarus AC

Ahriman
2 Foul Blightspawns
1 Scrivener
1 Poxbringer
3 Plagueburst Crawlers
1 Plague Marine (Counts as Lord)

UNPAINTED
1 Death Guard Rhino
6 Plague Drones
3 Bloat Drones
2 Demon Princes of Nurgle
2 Defilers
3 Contemptor Dreads
1 Maulerfiend
1 Armiger
1 Renegade Knight (plus all the other weapon options)
1 Foul Blightspawn
1 Slopity Bilepiper
31 Plague Bearers
30 Bloodletters
29 Cultists
10 Khorne Zerkers
1 Chaos Lord of Khorne
2 Terminator Sorcerers
5 Blightlords
3 Plague Marines
12 Nurglings
10 Blue Horrors
10 Brimstone Horrors
2 Biker Lords of Chaos

I think they make a good differentiation to be called butchers cannons instead of another weapon.

So slight update,we have a narrative tourney in February and i have deigned that i will play a painted list in the event... as such, i have to paint 6 terminators, 2 drones, and 2 dreads before then. Can i do it...? Stay tuned to find out!

Today i did prime and basecoat all the models i need to paint; tomorrow i plan to get all armor washes done and paint my armor colors completely; hopefully i can get some of my minor base coating done as well (i.e. fleshy bits). Ill get pocs up when i can

Howdy all,

So getting ready for a 1500 point event next month and decided I wanted to enter in for Best Painted for once; I might lose, but damnit... I'm gonna do it!

Being a narrative event we are limited to a single Battalion, single codex (forgeworld allowed)/faction, and max two of any non-troop unit... oh and no special characters. Taking inventory, I realized Death Guard was my best bet at creating a fun, well rounded list. I decided to "fluff it up" and center the list around Terminators; everything supports them, and this kind of fits the Vigilius narrative. I would have done Poxwalker hordes, but I need Typhus to do that :(

So the list (boiled down):
Demon prince (painted)
Terminator Sorc Lord (unpainted)
10x Blightlords w/ bolters, axes, two flails, two blightlauchers (5 unpainted)
10x Poxes (painted)
10x Cultists (painted)
10x Poxes (Painted)
2x Bloat Drone w/ spitters (unpainted)
2x Contemptors w/ dual butchers and havoc (unpainted)

The list will play very well I feel, and not be overwhelming for newbies; everything is killable within a well designed list. I purposely avoided using my PBC's, while it would have lightened the painting load, dealig with 10 termis and 2 PBC's is rough, especially because there will be no Knights or Primarchs in this event. It should be fun.

That said, I have a bit of work to do:
6 Terminators
2 Dreads
2 Drones

To paint within... 3 weeks? Maybe 4? So I hopped on it.

Welcome Bloaty the Bloat Drone to the fold!

And... Dready the Dreadnaught!

Yeah I know, creative names... lol.

6 terminators, 1 Drone, 1 Dread left! C&C welcome as always.
