Apologies if this is old news and only relevant to UK folk but I just noticed Waterstones have Solar War in hardback in stock online and in store. Not sure if the rest of the Siege books will be on sale there but interesting given the hardbacks have always been direct only.

The re-released hardback for Libre Chaotica is also going on general sale at 3rd parties too. Perhaps GW is reaching out a bit more strongly with its specialist books now that they feel the market is more interested!

The Genevieve series are, well, kinda weird.

They’re old, old Warhammer Stories. So old, Karl Franz was literally in Nappies at the time the books are set. And the world was somewhat different to what it became. Still recognisable, but very much a protoform.

Good reads though

They are very good, also often referenced in the Gotrek Novels and beyond..... Felix and others are big fans of Detlif's work.... the new WFRP also references Dracenfels and other bots and pieces - as did 2nd ed - Gene was well featured in Nights Dark Masters....

The last book in the series does try to bring the "Genevieve" and standard Warhammer world soem what together - also her gandmother in darkness commentary on the vampries wars etc are great fun.....she is a great character.....

There’s nothing more ‘’boring’’ than a gathering of elder vampires. Believe me. I’ve suffered enough of them in my centuries. All those long grey faces and ragged black cloaks. The stag-at-rut jousts as two old fools get in a squabble about some mortal morsel. You hear the same stories over and over. Mostly, yarns about how we didn’t really loose the Undead Wars blah blah blah and are just biding our time before we emerge from our mountain fastnesses and take up our rightful positions as rulers of humanity blah blah blah.

It has found its way into the canon somehow, as it was written around the time when not a lot was ultimately set into stone yet or still worked on. Karl Franz was already Emperor, but still new at it back then, not the great warrior statesman he would later become.

The reprints are well worth getting, the new foreword added in by the author gives some excellent insight into some things. Not to mention, both Genevieve and her grandmother in darkness are nice a change from the usual vampires you see.

Really enjoyed Genevieve Undead, as they were a trio of fun stories well deserving of the Horror label.

Bring on Silver Nails and Beasts in Velvet!

But first, finally(!), Spear of the Emperor this Saturday!

I think they meant Solar War is on Amazon. I ordered Liber Chaotica from Dark Sphere, £30 and about £4 delivery.

That would make more sense, £15 on Liber would be an insane deal even now (that's more than 50% off)

The Brunner stories are really good, if you like the Old World.

I'll have to get the Wings book, but I'm disappointed they didn't have a Lightning or Thunderbolt or one of the old Eldar fighters on the cover. Their least inspiring flyers are inspiring me the least.

The aeronautica book looks interesting, it will be interesting to see how technically accurate they are, or whether we have to suspend our disbelief a little bit.

Think someone at BL jumped the gun on those as they hint at the release period for aeronautica and heroes. Neither was shown at BL Live either.

I wouldn't read too much into the release of an Aeronautica collection, it's just a reprint of a novella released back when Stormcloud Attack was briefly a thing and several short stories they did over the years as eshorts.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Well that's disappointing, either Liber Chaotica is mega popular or the store I ordered from got shorted by GW, they "hope" to have more next week apparently :/

Same here. It doesn’t even show up on their site anymore, and it’s sold out on the GW site so I’m less hopeful.

This kind of thing really biles ma pish - if GW aren't going to bother supplying third parties if it sells well through their own store, then just limit the damn thing to their own store in the first place, and then shift any excess stock out to third parties in a couple of weeks time. And if they're so desperately sad as to be worried about "the optics", just BS everyone by claiming it sold out on their site and the batch that goes out to retailers is a second printing.

I really wanted this book, and if I'd known it was functionally Webstore Exclusive I'd have bought it there in the bloody first place, now I could well end up right back where we were a couple of months ago - wanting a copy but only having the option to pay 5+ times the list price to scalperscum because "OOP". Ugh.

What are the recent Inquisition novels like? The Inquisitor Covenant ones, the ones set on Terra, and the audio dramas?

All have great cover art, and the art alone is tempting me to read them. I really hope that if we ever see a revamp of the Inquisition range, we get to see plastics in style of some of these characters.

Carrion Throne is magnificent. The main character is my favorite Inquisitor from any of the fluff hands down.

Also, is there any chance Spear of the Emperor will get a paperback release anytime soon? I'm not keen on spending 30 dollars on a single novel.

Not soon, no. December I think. Spear of the Emperor was excellent though, if any books are worth the hardback price, this is one of them.

Cannot recommend the three Agent of the Throne audio dramas enough. I do recommend getting them all and listening to them in order, as they are building up to something big and have callbacks to previous dramas in the series. They've got a small but good cast of characters that nicely play off one another and gives us a look at agents of the Inquisition away from their master and how they deal with the tasks handed to them. And the cover art is really good at selling what you're getting.

Less a fan of the Covenant novels from the same author as the audio dramas, they're okay imho and perhaps I was expecting more of them when I learned it involved "legacy" characters like Covenant, Josef, rogue trader and the techpriest from the =I= game of then in the day.

Carrion Throne is most excellent however, setting aside the truly depressing depiction of life on Terra for everyone, including the Inquisition, it has some very rewarding moments in there, like Eternity Gate, how the Custodes operate on Terra and the best character ever, Gorgias the irate servo skull. I'm glad this one is getting a sequel and I love that the cover has the acolyte standing there with Argent, the relic Crozius she got from an impressed Imperial Fist chaplain, who cut it down to size for her, ymmv.
