I really like them. I'll pick up the Battletome for sure, but I'm currently too invested in my sneks and Vanguard at the moment to go full in. As well as saving for the new Sisters next year (first return to 40k for over a decade) I'll probably drip feed on this as other projects finish. Oh and to those whining about fish out of water? Get over it, it's a standard fantasy trope, and has already been explained in the background.

There's Elves with the exact same helmet as the Mistweaver in those flying turtles.

I haven't paid much attention to wargaming in what feels like years now... Kind of cool to come back to all this.
I hated the initial AoS direction, but I'm really starting to respect what they are doing with it. Probably not going to be picking up an AoS army as I don't feel like I have the time, but if something like an AoS mordheim were to come out I'd be all over that.
Feels like a city stuck in time/between realms would be a great excuse to let old world warbands fight it out with AoS ones.
Love the bald elves. Not super sold on the turtle, but I like the DE raider-esque feel (or maybe I should say, I like the way DE raider's look like ships).

Red Comet wrote: For the deepkin is this faction based on the old High Elves lore wise? Or are they more of a Dark Elf derivative faction lore wise?
They are closer to Dark Elves.
All their allies are basically the dark elf derived factions and as a neat twist the Deepkin require souls to consume to remain alive. Our first hint that they were coming for certain was their faction name in the Daughters of Khaine battletome under the allies listing.
So there are two types of medium-sized fish with riders. Helmeted fish with TMNT Shredder riders and helmeted sharks with slightly less spiky dudes on top. Are they a dual kit? They look very different on first glance, although with similar silhouettes, but I didn't look too closely.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Edit: Actually looking closer, the helmeted fish have two different riders: Shredders with sword and shield and guys with plumes and spears. So I guess the Sharks are a separate kit then? They have a different head, different fins and a third type of rider, although they also wield spears. The shark might be a character since we can only see one?
edit2: Ok, so the shark actually has two dudes on top, and what looks like a big crossbow of some kind?

I'm wondering if the mark of Khaine, which afflicts both Tyrion and Teclis is playing havoc with their attempts at creating species of Elves.
I'm also greatly enjoying the 'Elves Are Not Nice' vibe. To quote Sir Terry Pratchett...
They are wonderful, in that they inspire wonder; fantastic, in that they fabricate fantasies; marvellous, in that they generate marvels; and even terrific (they inspire terror).

I'm digging the visual designs here. Sharks swimming through the air is my kind of crazy. Plus I really want that turtle as a Ravager for my Dark Eldar, or maybe converted into a new, even more pimp version of Asdrubael Vect.
The supply does not get to make the demands.

I like the infantry and character designs very much, but I think the whole range would benefit from darker, more muted colour scheme. I guess that applies to most GWAoS releases though.
Also, Manta Rays are cooler than Barracudas and should have been the cavalry mounts.

I dunno, I like the pale clammy-looking skin on the infantry guys, gives that lightless depths of the abyss vibe.

It is my only objection. Why they have to be bald? What has happened with the iconic long hair elves? They would seem more impressive to me. It is one of the most difficult pieces to find. Elf heads with long hair, without any additional helms or tiaras etc.
Still, amazed with what I have seen.

Unless things have changed, I was always unde rthe impression that Mistweaver Saih and Tenebrael Shard were part of Malerions Shadowkin, so a different faction.

Like others have said, it gives them a "creatures of the abyss" vibe. Blind, pale, no hair and by the look of it they are directed by sound alone, hence the wind chimes of the eyed leader.
The riders and characters appear to have normal flesh so it's most likely a different class of elf, much like wracks in DE armies. I'm excited to see the lore.
By the way, Skyrim did this with the Falmer; fallen snow elves that now live subterranean lives in pitch darkness and have lost their eyes.

That is a superb range of models. The characters are all smashing, and the range as a whole is every bit as unique as the Overlords. The freedom of AoS to go to these more unique aesthetic elements (steampunk, Lovecraftian, a dash of truly bizarre high fantasy) is really starting to pay off and create a very strong setting.
There also seems to be some detinction between these pale blind elves and the fleshy coloured ones. Somewhere was a bit that talked about Teclis' failed experiments with elve souls. So it's entirely possible, that the pale ones are these failed experiments, while the fleshy elves are descendents of the original WHFB elves.

I'm thinking, personally, that the 'pale blind elves' are the Idoneth's attempts to create life on their own.
I wholeheartedly wish AOS was a more engaging game to me, GeeDub have finally hit an interesting stride with Daughters and now Idoneth. Maybe 2E will bring AOS more inline with 40k 8E, fix the NPE that drove me from the game and add in some crunch to keep me scheming.
But on topic: Cool seaelves! Not as mindblowing the more I look at them, but I do enjoy lack of eyes + monsters on a fairly primal level

Fair enough and very good points. It is just a pity that we end up with yet another 'bald' elven faction. And I do not manage to find any good alternative options for heads.

Wonder what their lists are going to look like? It seems they are going to emphasize speed what with their shark riders, but the majority of the heroes are walking. Maybe Allegiance ability that will let them keep pace?
