So we've got people arguing about whether or not sisters of battle fans deserve to be happy about this, people arguing about how the models that are still a twinkle in the designers' eyes have already been ruined by "SJWs"... am I missing anything?

No good can come of this thread

Guys this MadCowCrazy guy is the one that posted images of anatomic studies of Celestine saying she was fat, and called everyone a SJW (even HMBC!) when they told him that was nonsense.

Yeah, how are these insults to him on topic at this point? Not doing much better as a result.

Not that we know much about the SoB's looks at this point, but given the usual SoB crowd it's not really going to satisfy much I'm betting.

I disagree.
I thought the old Celestine looked better. The new one looks a bit bland in comparison, imo.
Its not a bad model, just not as good as it's predecessor in terms of detail.

Haven't GW said it takes about 2 years from concept to product? When they said "Emperor willing, the Battle Sisters of the Adepta Sororitas will be ready to take the fight to the renegade, the heretic and the unbeliever in 2019." does that mean a more realistic release would be 2020 as the wording strongly suggests that we need a miracle for them to be done in 2019? So December launch 2019 if a miracle happens?

If the talk about them starting work on the line is because of the overwhelming requests for them in the Survey a couple of months ago is actually true, then yeah, it's entirely likely they've not even reached the concept art stage yet.

Are you sure it's not that the old one simply has a stronger atmosphere? The wings are a bit flat for something so large, especially compared to the imagery of the cloak and cherubs, but the actual armor itself (which is what we're like to see more of) is perfectly fine

EDIT: Too slow on the response, already answered

Yes, it makes me very nervous to see GW announce they can be bothered to finally do something wity my favorite army, which they have mockingly neglected (seriously, there are plastic Sisters of Silence models), because they can be used as a vehicle to experiment with marketing. Experiment with your dumb sea elves and give Sisters a normal release.

Having the CAD resources will certainly make it easier to sculpt the larger part of the range and save time in the process. It's also reassuring that the aesthetic of Battler Sisters won't change, just get a technical upgrade.

Repentia, on the other hand... now there's a unit to be concerned about.

I liked her better when she didn't have wings. And not just because it made transporting easier. As you say, it evokes a certain feeling in the model. Still haven't assembled mine because I'd like to remove the wings and give her the appearance of the old model.

I am stunned to see people upset by this news, or even worried. It's great news. A re hash of a beloved old line after forever and a chance to get an invite into how the worlds biggest wargames company designs it's models. Too often people take too much ownership of things in this game and take things personally. We saw it with the death of the old world and have heard about it with sisters of battle.

I remember them appearing in 2nd edition and not liking them as new comer upstarts ruining the game. How things change. If the "community" can't be pleased at the announcement of the most anticipated news then there is no hope. Relax and enjoy the good news. And count the sleeps until 2019. It won't take long.

Add me to the list of people who are stoked about the plastic sisters announcement. I've been waiting a loooong time for this, and will drop a significant amount of cash on the new Sororitas. I don't mind the long lead time - in fact I'm enjoying the anticipation. There are a few reasons for this:

1) New GW so far has an excellent track record on delivering on their promises. I believe we'll most likely see the minis in 2019.
2) It'll allow me - Emperor willing - to put some cash aside between now and then instead of getting the girls on credit.
3) It will also allow me - Emperor willing - to clear up the painting table a bit so I can go straight from buying to painting.
4) I'm looking forward to the various things they'll share about the design and development process between now and then.

To be honest Celestine (And all living saints) always had wings in the artwork. The model was the one odd fish out there.

I can only speak for myself, of course. I like Repentia. My army used to at least be made up of Repentia when I regularly played the army with Codex Witchhunters and I wouldn't mind reliving the glory days of horde a screaming nutters running at the enemy swinging huge chainswords. Which, since the models are what drive the hobby for me, requires an aesthetic I can get behind.

I'm not tied to the current look specifically. The current ones achieve that religious nutter look through a haphazard look coupled with a lack of armor in a power armored army, with hiding their faces in an army that doesn't wear helmets (by and large), and some chains and silly bondage stuff. I don't need. I like the models well enough to have a few, as mentioned, but I don't need the new models to reflect the underlying themes of the unit in the way the current ones do. I do think those themes are important, though, and whether the new models change drastically or not, the themes should remain well reflected. In fact, better reflected would be even better. If we're doing new models, we may as well make improvements where applicable.

Repentia should show a certain amount of religious madness in so far as, let's face it, religion does not obey the rules of reason, and at the same time follow the logic of their religion.

I always liked the drawings that had naked Repentia with scroll piercings, hoods and eviscerators because they embodied what it is to lose the Emperor's grace. Normally, Sisters are the military representation of the Ecclesiarchy and thus showing their faces to the crowds is perfectly fine. The faithful and heretics alike get to look at the face of true faith. Repentia are fallen from grace and cannot (re)present the Imperial faith in such a manner and should instead hide their faces in shame, which also gives a convenient placative element for a redeemed Sister who doesn't die as a Repentia - she gets to take off her hood and rejoin the ranks of the faithful as herself instead of being a faceless sinner. Combined with the baseline normal Sisters give, I think this is a powerful element as far their role as representatives of the Ecclesiarchy goes.

In universe, a big deal is made about the the sacred human form. Running around naked is, with regard to the Imperial Creed, nothing shameful. It's a physical sign of both the right and the duty to fight and die for the Emperor. No garb of the penitent could ever be such a powerful reflection of a Repentia's purpose as no garb at all.

And, to cut things short, litanies of faith because everyone in the Imperium does that. You know.

The concern is that legitimate and perfectly reasonable lore reason is cast aside in favor of real life reasons, that is to say an international company like GW can't sell half naked girls to go with the portrayal described above. The concern is that GW might change the background of the unit because of better marketable miniatures, thus basically deleting the unit I like and replacing it with something I might not like. That's bad by itself and has implications on the wider faction because its feel changes, too.

And let's make no mistake, as much as boob plate comes up (and thanks to Celestine has proven to continue being a stylistic element in the future, thankfully) in discussion, the bondage element Codex Witchhunters introduced has possibly been the most criticized part of Sisters of Battle in the past. I'm not saying I don't trust GW*, but Repentia are the part of the army that I remain worried about until I see definite and irrefutable proof that they pulled off the spirit of the unit in model form.

*I totally don't. GW has lost the right to the benefit of the doubt, as far as I'm concerned. Going to take a good bit of work on their part to get it back.
