I believe they have said this game will be built with crossplay in mind.

The initial comment was that you can use the miniature game models in tactics (guessing with purchase of character card packs) but that tactics figured won’t be comparable with the miniature game as that is strictly taking place following death of King Robert.

I hope that actually ends up being the case for players of both games!

My interest is piqued. A Song of Ice and Fire miniatures game is the best tabletop game I've ever played.

I've managed to create for myself a great little gaming group for ASOIAF just by demoing games for people. Once they play they generally get hooked.

If this new game has same design ethos or people involved I'm sure it too will be really fun and well made.

I've just been fast forwarding through the livestream for the Tactics reveal so I probably missed alot but the minis will be physically compatible between the two games (as in same general physical scale and base size). Some figs will just be swapable into existing profiles whereas others will have to have special cards released in the future. Some big monster style units won't cross over or make sense in a skirmish game. The new game's minis will come with textured bases instead of flat/empty ones so they may be a couple millimeters taller due to that. Also they're using some sort of "daily unlock" method for expansions instead of stretch goals unlocked at certain levels of funding. Launches next Thursday.

If the new trailer is anything to go by there are either 6 additional addon boxes in the campaign as they show 8 boxes in the throne room at the end.

And preview campaign has been updated (we have terrain). Main pledge comes with Battle of the Trident, terrain and stretch goals, the first of which appears to be making up a Battle beneath the Wall box (exclusive to the campaign).

I prefer the more practical and studded armour of the Miniatures Game Roose, but that helmet is a fantastic design

I think I'm largely more interested in the Battle Beneath the Wall

I'm still not clear on what this is - its a new standalone game but cross compatible with the existing? Are these new models all getting rules or do they just become alt sculpts for other stuff?

Obviously it's full kickstarter minus the big dragon is not gonna be $80, but that's a lotta stuff for $80.

Unless someone BIG comes out after this, I might just stick with the Trident and Daily rewards tier.

It’s a new game but there will be some cross compatibility between the two. They would ideally like to make everything from the miniature game work in Tactics and everything in tactics work in the existing game but have admitted it may not be possible but will try.

Some of the models like the Baratheon wardens and stag knights are alt sculpts. Characters which already appear in the miniature game can be used as alt sculpts as well such as the Roose Bolton example.

Is Jon Arryn played by Donald Sutherland in the show? Because that drawing is an uncanny likeness.

Welp. Looks like I'm getting into another game. Those sculpts are great. Roose is a real standout.

Even on the rare chance the game is boring, the sculpts are great and easily used for ASOIAF TMG.

Maybe I can resist the huge dragon...? Maybe not... that castle diorama is awesome.

Watched the live stream last night on this one and am really looking forward to it. ASOIAF is my favorite fantasy series, I’m a skirmish gamer, the sculpts look great and characterful, and the 80 pledge seems like a great value. Aside from Battletech, this will be the most solidly a Crowdfund has ever sold me on something.

Ill be picking up the models for sure, but I'm not looking forward to seasonal updates every 6 months to shift competitive metas. ASOIAF has lost me in the constant changes, especially with no ink-friendly option to print out updated cards. I hope this game isn't the same in that aspect.

This game is 100% more board game based than actual Skirmish wargame based. CMON knows that they have a big quagmire when it comes to ASOIAF so I think they're gonna fire this off and not bother with any balance passes thereafter.

Much more like Zombicide than anything else.

How so? What makes it more of a board game than a skirmish wargame based on what they've previewed already? I'm genuinely asking as I mainly follow the game for the minis/sculpts so don't understand what the big quagmire is when it comes to ASOIAF. Are you referring to the disastrous end to the first series and/or the decade delay in publishing the next book? Or is the quagmire more to do with the CMON game itself?

As for a Zombicide Song of Ice and Fire, I actually think that might be a good idea and fill a niche with the property that isn't currently being satisfied (namely a game with White Walkers) as well as mesh with their existing Zombicide line of games. I don't think that's what you meant but you inadvertently made a good point IMO.

What quagmire for ASOIAF? They have ten playable armies, a large product line, the game is buckets of fun, affordable, has regular releases, and is attached to a popular IP.

I can only see locally, but the game is growing by leaps and bounds here. Many units have sold through multiple print runs and they keep producing new units. CMON drops underperforming projects fast. With the rate of releases for this game and the continued dev involvement that is all a sign the game is profitable for them.

The sort of euro boardgamey design ethos around balance, multiple paths to victory, and tough choices is what makes ASOIAF TMG so unique and interesting in my opinion. I hope they have approached ASOIAF Tactics the same way (and it looks like they have).

I know people love to bag on Zombicide, but it is a fun cooperative game even "Monopoly and Yahtzee" type boardgame people can enjoy. I would definitely buy a ASOIAF themed Zcide.

Nothing to do with the actual subject, more the way the devs handle the rules often. From what I can tell from tactics, there seems to be less room for interpretation and error compared to the rank and flank game. Could be wrong moving forward, I'm just saying the presentation of this is more board game and less skirmish game.

The quagmire is based on the way they design and balance the game and how often they're told something is just flat out incorrect and they either ignore or make fun of the players trying to build the game in the local communities.

I'm not a fan of the designers, like at all. I've heard and seen the stuff they do and say when it comes to the game and it's all just really stupid. Very clear language on cards or rules ignored in favor of what they THINK something should do rather than what it actually says to do, so much so that they changed the rules of the game to fit their interpretation of the rules rather than what the rules actually say. I know that sounds weird because THEY make the game, but experiencing it is very different from explaining it.

My local crew seems hyped for Tactics, so I'll probably buy into $80 level, but my expectations are real low.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of it, the $80 pledge is a great deal. So much so I’m eyeballing it even though I couldn’t care less about the IP.

Fair enough. I haven't done more than a cursory flip through of the rules themselves and the only thing I know about the cards is that you should expect to reprint most of them yearly depending on your faction unfortuantely making the in box ones relatively useless. Just based off of the few streams I've watched, it looks like most of the folks there speak English very well despite it being what sounds like a second language for most of them. No hate on bilingual folks (I'm one of them!) but I don't know if that or a more european approach to the rules factors more into the potential loosey-goosey nature that needs so many tweaks post release.

These look very cool. Clearly they're using the game to also make some bold artistic design choices for the minis. Which I think is at the very least objectively interesting, and I really look forward to adding them to the collection.

The dragon piece is absurdly large, you'd think the little guys around him had to be 10mm or 15mm if you didn't know better. I'd have to buy a curio cabinet to store him in. The other expansions will likely be more attractive to me, but I can't fault CMON for trying to replicate the success of giant Cthulhu. And it is a great model.

As far as the tabletop wargame, their approach has its advantages and it also has its problems. It's far too complicated trying to keep up or join in, you can do it, players can do it, it's just too complicated. There's barely a week goes by on the Reddit that somebody isn't asking about what cards they need and where the current rules are, etc. And I'm sure the Facebook group gets a lot of that too. The updates do make the game into a mess in terms of getting started and knowing which rules and cards to play with.

So one good thing about this being on GameFound is you can have your payment broken up over 3 payments. So I am likely getting the $80 level but may consider any other expansions as a result... Wont be getting Drogon as I would have no place to put it... and dragging it around for games feels like a pain.

I hope the Harrenhal tiles will be available to purchase separately or that they offer an "extra tiles" pack like they do in Zombicide kickstarters. As I would like the option of having battles there but just dont need the dragon.

Does Gamefound charge you immediately when you pledge or at the end of the campaign like kickstarter? Also, are the people you're funding required to fulfill their promises or do they just get to post a weaselly "sorry, but..." update to get out of it? I don't think CMON would do that as they've had to my knowledge a great record since their New Wave minis collapsed but I figured I'd ask.

Just like KS gamefound is acting as a crowdfunding platform so failures can happen

but as it's not as old as KS so we've seen fewer of them

although we have seen folk hit when they've late pledges/added extra using gamefound as a pledge manager like with Mythic Games Anastyr and Hel: The Last Saga

This will be my second time using game found. But as Orlando said I have had 4 or 5 use it as a pledge manager. Cards are charged at the end, and if you break it up are broken in to 3 equal payments each month. Though only the initial pledge can be broken up that way. If you add stuff after campaign it charges you immediately for what you add.

Thanks. The breaking of payments isn't an issue for me but I just didn't know if I backed out before it finished if that meant I'd have to deal with/track a refund or if it's only charged when everything is revealed.

Yes, that is a really great price.

Martells are a fun light cavalry, hit and run kind of faction with some nice control cards.
