Well we know that Indomintus Crusaders and Dread Waagh are formations. Presumably all the things between are also formations.

Well Emperor's Blade used to be a veteran/hellhound formation with mandatory chimeras. Emperor's Conlcave strikes me as odd, as they have used "Emperor's Shield" multiple times for the generic infantry formation. Makes me wonder if there is a twist on it. The other two, Wrath and Fist, are probably pretty straight forward. Automatically Appended Next Post: Annointed Throng sounds like GSC to me, and is next to broodsurge in the list too.

Seems a few armies are left out, i hope the other 1/2 of the armies dont need to wait 6 months to get a formation.
I understand they are wanting to test them out before doing 50 of them, but you cant really give 1/2 the players something and not the other 1/2, especially if they both are buying the same book equally.

I think they just didn't want to do a campaign book where every race is just shoehorned in. If you do that it is really limiting narratively, as it pretty much has to take place around the tiny Tau region.

If the old GCS book is anything to go by, then the Deliverance Broosdurge will be themed around transports.
The Annointed Throng is less clear, but I think that Annointed is the key word, which probably means Abominant, Aberrants, Iconwards and so forth. More or less the GSC contents of Tooth and Claw.

And that leaves the Anointed Throng.. I agree with a poster above, seems to be GSK.

It's less of a problem with they have a cost associated and aren't just a thing that you get for free. I'll be ok without one for now.
And look at it this way -- when the campaign for yours shows up it could be followed by some new models.

To be fair though, this is part 1 of 2. So it could be that Part 2 will be more Chaos-focused, perhaps with the rumored new Abaddon and new Chaos sculpts. After all, Haarkon is the "Herald" of Abaddon. So the full brunt of the Black Legion isn't on Vigilus yet. If GW was smart, Part 2 would be mostly about Chaos and be sort of a 2.0 codex for them (an 8.5 if you will), without having to reprint a new Codex.

Yes, has been stated that they are matched play compatible.
I guess that depends on the TOs. I would guess at yes, as long as they are not completely broken or something.

Not to look too much into stuff, I'm sure it mentioned he has 80 days to win the planet for the warmaster. Money is on a chaos release 80 days after the book is released?

I think they crammed too many races into the campaign book as it is (but that's pretty typical GW as of the past 10-15 years).
Regarding stuff armies get...it's nothing akin to the old detachments. You're paying for a few extra stratagems and a unique warlord trait and relic...basically the same stuff you get in a codex, it's just slightly different. That is nowhere near armies just getting random gak for free. Not sure why people are equating that with them.
Now, having said that, I'm confident that with GW's relatively poor play-testing there will be a couple broken stratagems or something buried in those lists. Personally I'm happy to see this stuff. This is how armies should have been developed with a bit more unique stuff. It's also nice to see for the players who do obscure chapters. We know Crimson Fists are never going to get a codex, etc. so it's cool to see their army get a few more unique options/traits/strats.

Hey man if the book gives a decent formation for lots of neophytes in trucks and those models get better in the codex, im all for it.
|
Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.
I have a problem.
Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

Based on rumours (so big pinch of salt!) we're possibly expecting a Black Legion mini Codex.

I thought they already said they are only doing 3 campaign books? They will need to get them all into those 3.
I just hope they dont change the style of them/power creep over the 3 books.

For Vigilus, maybe. That is not the end of 40k, as other campaign books will come through the years. Concentrate on these armies here, have Necrons and whatnots elsewhere in another. They do not, and appear not to be doing so, have to cram everyone here at once. This is fine.

Now I know that it is 2 or 3 books, I'm starting to draw comparisons with the Vraks books, which are probably my favourite campaign books ever made. The setting of that campaign really evolved over the series. Anyone know who the writers of this book are? If GW was sensible they would have got some of the FW people involved. FW knew how to make campaign books.
