Thanks mate, I’m dead chuffed with the Plague Marines and can’t wait to get them on the table after Easter.
mcmattila wrote:I really love your Nurgle scheme! The pastel pink and neon green really pop agains the black armor. But if you're thinking about trying different colors for the fleshy bits, I say go for it. I'd suggest other pastel colors like light blue or orange maybe?
Thanks mcmatilla, I hadn’t thought about pastel colours, but I think that you might be right! I’ll give it a go on the next squad! Thanks!
JordySteve wrote:The nurgle marines look great but loving what you are doing with the Space Hulk terminators. They have some great detail and you are doing them justice! Can’t wait to see how they end up!
Thanks JordySteve, the Space Hulk Terminators are jam packed with details I can barely differentiate some of it. I’m looking forward to getting some grime on them to give them a lovely grim dark look.

I thought we were going to see Void Panthers Terminators for Space Hulk!! :O Your work so far looks good - I bet you will love the finished results post streaking. Your list of things to check up on made me smile - triple checking is a necessity eh!
Funny you should say that, I have thought about matching the load out on some Void Panther Terminators. Maybe that could be my next Panthers Project? Honestly, list making is one of the most useful things about dakka sometimes!

Absolutely loving the DG. Your scheme is great, the lilac nurglings and mutations, the green slime. It ties the whole scheme together. I don't envy you painting all that trim and all those details! What a lot of work has gone into this force.
Horus? Is that you? . Thanks Tek, the trim on both plague marines and Terminators.
Got the Mother in law staying this week, so not had much opportunity to paint, but I’ve ticked a few bits off the Terminator to do list:
Nothing special on these two cloaks, Lorenzo got a teal and turquoise highlight on his black cape and Calistarius some Red highlights. I also added a skull transfer to Calistarius’ shoulder pad in prep for some free hand where I’ll be trying to paint a face in gold with an iron halo also involved.
Separately I also highlighted Scipio’s shoulder pad and Noctis’ red eagle, but haven’t taken pics. Not sure when I’ll get the airbrush out to do Goriel’s Genestealer, but I’ll hopefully get the dead guys skull highlighted and Calistarius’ shoulder pad painted. Then I’ll add some scripture to all of the parchment.
Thanks for looking

Thanks, they’re pretty full on with all of the details, but they’re still fun to paint.
MIL departed today, so a spot of F1 Quali this evening was a good opportunity to do a few more bits on the Terminators. My previous to do list has been heavily eroded and I even painted the ribs on their joints.
i should’ve got a picture of Calistarius’ shoulder pad free hand. It’s far from perfect and hard to photograph, but I think it’s just about possible to tell what it is. The scriptures seem to have turned out ok. I was worried that my usual pen would rub off post streaking grime removal, so used paint. That is harder to get thin, but it looks decent enough. The symbols on Calistarius’ big sheets turned out ok too. I think I pretty much only have the Genestealer left to do before I throw some grime about. Maybe I’ll do it out the window to save clearing my desk!?
Thanks for looking
Automatically Appended Next Post:
First up here’s Calistarius’ shoulder pad… don’t laugh at the child’s drawing!
I don’t think it terrible, but it’s not winning any prizes. In hindsight the transfer wasn’t much help and it folded, hence the line on one of the cheeks.
This afternoon I got the airbrush out and after masking off the terminator with blue tack I painted up the Genestealer
And that pic was proof of what they looked like before getting grimy
Here they are after their bath
And the grimdark comes out nicely post make up sponge removal. It’s like liquid grimdark in a bottle.
Pleased with how they’re coming along, will add some highlights to the gems and lenses. I’ll probably do some on the gold and silvers too, but that’ll probably be next weekend.
Thanks for looking

It’s been a couple of weeks, but I’ve been busy hobbying. First up I played my first game of 40K in what must be nearly 30years. I brought the Void Panthers to play my mates Armoured Imperial Guard. Here’s the set up
Having played Kill Team I was a bit surprised how effective getting first turn was. Here’s the Assault squad and Missile Launcher Devs getting whittled down
And at the end of the Guards first turn the Land Raider had been deleted and the Lascannons/Multimelta Devastators got neutered. I didn’t take any other photos after that, maybe a bit of a sore loser. I did make a hit of a comeback when the Terminators, bikes and land speeder arrived. Though it was short lived as I really struggled to open up chimeras let alone Dorns. When I did get some guardsmen in the open they didn’t last long but I got tabled in the end.
Around the same time the new local game store’s (Cryptic Cabin in Bristol) 50k WhatsApp community set up a New Player League. I picked my list before the Guard game so I don’t have much faith in the Demi-Company plus Terminator Captain. They’ll at least look good whilst dying at the hands of the Eldar army that I’m playing in round 1 next Friday.
In trying to learn my lesson I’ve made a start on some reinforcements.
The 2+ anti vehicles on the Gravcannon should come in handy, so I made a start on that squad. Similarly the Assault Marines lacked a bit of punch so I figured that I’d upgrade to Vanguard Vets. I might print some risers to allow the Assault Marines to proxy as Assault Intercessor who are considerably cheaper points wise. Since the Chaplain was my MVP in the imperial guard game, I though he could join the Assault Marines or Vanguard Vets and for 1k games a Jump Captain should be better value than Terminator Captain. In the background you can also see the statue from Blood and Zeal got built.
Then last Friday the Plague Marine Kill Team got a run out at the LGS.
Playing end to end I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get forward fast enough, but a dash for the champion helped, as did having 3APL
The near side saw some heated fighting, the Heavy Gunner died on the cloud of flies token having earlier in the turn killed 2 of the 3 kriegers on the platform. Sadly the medic resuscitated the watch master. They then managed to take him out. The Melta gunner on the ground nearly finished the Champion who then nearly finished the gunnner!
We had to finish after TP3 but the game was really decided with me grabbing all 3 objectives and the central positions to secure my Tac Op and the Crit Op. MVP for me was probably the Plaguecaster. He brought the Iconbearer back from near death, whittling down guardsmen and finishing them off thanks to poisonings. Overall I think it was a good learning experience, me with my new team and my opponent who was playing his first game against someone that knows the rules (ish)
As a final update I decided that since quite a few other members of the League had crammed armour and Monsters in to 1000 points that the Panthers needed some light armour. I figured a Razorback with twin linked lascannons would be a good transport for a squad of Gravcannon or Multimelta Devastators. Only problem was the only razorback bits I have were heavy bolters, so I found a file and printed one up.
Obviously since I wanted it finished within 3 weeks ready for round 2 of the league I figured that I’d paint the interior! at least it was much simpler than the Land Raider and I got it done in one go
Getting a pic from the top was tough as I kept getting shadows, so this is as good as I could manage
As per my criteria, finishing the inside of a tank counts as a finished mini. I’ve got to say that I’m happy how it turned out and particularly given it was already glued together, so I had to paint it through the rear door and top hatch
I then primed the outside in all 3 configurations
Twin linked Lascannons
Rhino
Looking at the razorback stats, I’m a bit annoyed at myself for selling the Hunter Killer Missiles that I had accumulated across eBay buys. Oh well, it funded the plastic addiction somewhat!
Sunday was a quiet day and sunny outside so I also made some progress on the other reinforcements. The Captain and Devastators got their good blocked in again after the Nuln oil bath. I didn’t take pics while they were outside but hopefully they are noticeably brighter than the Veterans in the next pic.
Looking at the Devs, I think they are slightly brighter, but it’s quite noticeable how much more orange the bottle of Retributor armour is compared to the colour forge spray that’s supposed to be colour matched. Anyway, the Razorback got its main colours blocked in tonight and is looking pretty good. I’ll get the small bits of green blocked in next and give it a Nuln Oil bath. The print quality on the lascannons was a bit weak, but from above with the ironed ton surfaces it looks pretty decent already. Bases aside, I think they’re all pretty much Battle Ready standard, but I’ll try to get them all ready for round 2.
Thanks for looking, and well done to those that read all of that, it went on for a while! Have an internet cookie as a reward

Thanks man, the league has got me pretty motivated to paint more Panthers, but the New Death Guard Codex has me itching to paint their Nurgly Brethren, so much so I’ve splashed on the codex, index cards and combat partrol. I even spent my birthday vouchers on a Great Unclean One whose body is assembled, I just need to decide on what weapons, head and nurglings to use, or maybe I magnetise him ?
Tonight though was the Plague Marine Kill Teams second outing. This time it was up against legionaries. I didn’t take many pics and it ended up being a really quick game that somehow avoided any melee.
I think this was the start of TP2 and the Malignant Plaguecaster was about to earn his keep with saving the Icon Bearer, then in TP3 he saved himself regaining a maximum 7 wounds each time! It really reinforced my opponents view on how tough the Plague Marines are. I didn’t get any other good pics, and this one ain’t great. At least you can still see how fancy my new Purple and Gold Dice are! . They didn’t fail me and I took a convincing victory by again nabbing early objectives and using the same minis for my Tac Op. it seems that victory must’ve angered the other Chaos gods as I fell off my bike on the way tot the train station after the game. I thought I’d gotten away with a bruised elbow but turns out I had a big cut on my knee. So I’ve been in A&E pretty much since the waiting for stitches. On the bright side, I don’t have to pay and I’ve managed to get through a good number of dakka plogs next I’ll do a bit of research on the job I want to apply for next month.
Thanks for looking and remember to not upset the dark powers

The leg is healing nicely with only some mild discomfort when going down stairs. Should be healed up well enough to walk up to the FLGS for my 40K game on Friday. Still with an eye on the following round of the league I’m making good progress on the reinforcements. All of the purple and gold has been blocked in following the Nuln oil bath. The Vanguard Vets and Razorback got their Liberator Gold highlights. To help with that I stuck the helmets and shoulder pads on
They’re starting to look pretty decent now, it’s a shame that the Vets can’t take Lightning Claws any more and the captain can’t take a hammer & shield, but they should be good to use anyway.
Comparing the new purple (Phoenician Purple) I’ve been using and the purple panels on my land raider there was quite a difference. So when I re-blocked out those panels I went back to the old pot of Liche Purple which unfortunately is running out rapidly. I’ve been searching for a good few years for a decent replacement, and I’m hoping the pot of Vallejo Hexed Lichen that should be delivered this week will be the one. The last one I tried from the dakka conversion chart, Alien Purple from Army Painter was a terrible match and an even worse paint, so let’s see how Hexed Lichen fairs. [Edit: not bashing the conversion chart, just that paint was awful! The chart has treated me well on the most part and is far and away the best one that I’ve found to date)

Thanks Cap, that interior turned out pretty well to say it was done through the hatch and back door. I’ve been making good progress with the outside too
I’ve made some solid progress on the reinforcements for the Panthers. Well, mainly the Captain and the Razorback. Starting with the Captain, I didn’t want to be accused of modelling for advantage so I cut him off his base and added 50% of his height to his base to better match the height of the Primaris version
Here’s the before, and now, the after
Much more imposing and he seems to have a better pose now. It might be a bit ridiculous having him tower over every other mini in the Army though . You’ll also notice his gold has gotten a bit shinier, that’s because they’ve all had the final highlights on their metallics
I’ve since done all of the purple edge highlights on the Razorback and tidied them up somewhat as well. Sadly I forgot to take a pic, so you’ll just have to trust me
That’s not all I’ve been up to. The Great Unclean One that I bought with Birthday vouchers has been built, and because I like the look of Rottigus, and the standard GUO looks to be the best option for WH40k (though the bells resurrecting Plaguebearers sounds useful) I figured that I’d magnetise the options. I’ve done all of the heads and half of the arms. Here’s the OG with a Land Raider for scale
That was my Birthday present, and my Christmas Present also arrived. Well, it was part funded by a voucher. It took a while to arrive but ended up being a month earlier than the 180 days that the Made to Order suggests. Can you guess what it is?
Not from the outside, but this one tells you;
Yep, Sector Imperialis Sanctum
And the Imperial Sector set
Rounded out with the Basilicanum… yeah, I went a bit crazy! I was a bit excited to get going, and since my first 40K League game was cancelled I got stuck in to building it, getting the first floor done in good time
Then getting stuck in with the second
And I couldn’t resist the Buttresses and the Statuary
I’ve gotta say that I’m really pleased with my purchases. It’s a lot of plastic, the delivery note said 4.8Kg, but I’m not sure it’s really that heavy, but each of the boxes is jam packed with Sprues to the point that it almost feels like good value! So far I’m loving how the Sanctum looks and can’t wait to paint it. I’m thinking similar to my Killzone Volkus but maybe with cream coloured stonework, or maybe I do different coloured stone for each building? With one eye on all of this terrain I snagged a bit of a steal at the local fair today.
A lady was selling them for 50p a pot after her and her husband had closed their Art shop a couple of years ago. I was only thinking of one or two, but she had such a lovely story and a wide variety of colours I figured I could get a few more and get up to a fiver.
I think that’s everything up to date. Hopefully I’ll get those Panthers Reinforcements done next weekend, then it’ll be back to Space Hulk and Eversor(though he might become a travelling only project, we’ll see). Once they’re done I’m thinking I might go all in on the Death Guard Army
Thanks for looking

Yeah, I’m really looking forward to painting up the terrain, it’s a fantastic set. Worrying about load outs is a very recent thing for me, but thankfully the gaming group is super chill, at least the guys I’ve been paired with so far! Injury is healing well, just an annoying scab now.

Yeah, and that’s 1 of 3 boxes! Might slow down on the rest
Last week was pretty busy, but I managed to fit some hobby time in and last night I also finished a couple of Panthers. First up is the Razorback with Twin linked Lascannons
I’ve also painted up the Twin Linked Heavy Bolters too
And a Rhino top hatche
Here’s a few more angles with the Lascannons
I was wanting to remove the book and sword, but I quite like how it’s turned out now
I thought that I’d sold all of my Hunter Killer Missiles, but I found one and thought I’d magnetise it
My Land Raider also has a magnet to take one but I think I’ll have to print one for that if I field them both.
The other finished bit was my Chaplains Jump Pack
I love his original back pack so much that I magnetised this jump pack just for use in games. I’m not convinced that I got the amounting angle quite right as his wings are fully in shadow from the front. Still he looks cool and will be leading my Vanguard Vets on Wednesday.
Speaking of the Vanguard Veterans, they’re pretty much done as well. One of them is missing his final Black & Purple highlight of Uniform Grey and they all need their green and parchments highlighting
I should just about get them completely finished ahead of the game as it’s probably less than an hours work remaining on them.
I should probably try some free hand on the blank space on the two right most Marines shoulder pads, would be a very small Panthers symbol. That’ll wait until after the game on Wednesday.
The Gravcannons and Smash Captain are a bit further behind as they all need their black and purple final highlights.
I might not get these all fully finished, but I’ll glue them all together ready to be used as they’re definitely more than Battle Ready.
Speaking of games, I had my first League game on Wednesday. It was against an Aspect Warrior heavy Eldar force. Sadly we spent way too long setting up and didn’t make it past Turn 2, but Lucky for me i managed to sneak past an Avatar to flood the centre objective and the lead
Here’s the deployment, and whilst I did better than my first 10th edition game I left a couple of squads more vulnerable than I thought
At the start of Turn 2 my Jump Marines had seen off the Guardians but the Avatar loomed large near the bulk of my army
He wiped out the Melta Devastators but my Tactical squad could sneak behind him to smash up the swooping hawks that dropped in via Deep Strike.
A good fun game, but both being new I’m sure we got a few things wrong and boy were we slow. Next League game is on Wednesday, this time vs Dark Angels. The Assault Marines will be staying home, as will the HB Tactical Squad and the Missile Launcher Devs. With the points total growing to 1250 I plan to add in the Grav Devastators, the Vanguard Vets, the Razorback, my Land Raider, a squad of Terminators, the Chaplain and Librarian. So much extra stuff that I had to check my list again! It’s crazy that last I played 40K, back in 2nd Edition, this would probably have been closer to 2000 points!
With the New Player Leage at the FLGS going great guns, the organiser is now planning a Crusade. It starts in July and will see 1000 points Armies to start with… having been reading rh new death guard codex, I’m sorely tempted to try to get my Death Guard Battle Ready. I already have a Squad and a Malignant Plaguecaster fully painted thanks to the Kill Team. I reckon I could do it if I batch paint them, getting only the armour highlighted, then the trim and metal base coated, fleshy bits can start blue, bones/horns in Zandri dust and goop in Green. I think I’d only need 20 Marines and 2 Blight Haulers. My main issue would be Poxwalkers, but I already have 10 painted, 16 if you count the Blackstone Fortress ones. That sounds a lot, but I’d need 30 at least for the detachment I want to start with. I might see if the airbrush can help with them.
Anyway, enough rambling, thanks for looking!

Loving those LC Vets. Great looking squad. The Rhinoback is both versatile and well-painted. More good game shots. Your Panthers are highly photogenic.

Thanks the Vets are probably my favourite Panthers to date, especially the Sergeant with claws donate by our very own Ragsta!

Well, this week has been a busy one! I didn’t quite manage to finish everything for my Around 2 game. In fact I pretty much just glued everything together after my previous post. The game was really fun, I felt I had the basic mechanics, it was just a question of not remembering much. Printing some smaller cards helped with that. Despite playing with more points, we got further in to the game, calling it at the end of T3. I didn’t get pics before we packed up but here’s a T1 and T2 pic.
Here we are at the start of T1, we were playing Scorched Earth so I decided to camp on my near objectives so I could burn them in T2. The land Raider had a Tac Squad in it and the Razorback had the Librarian and Gravcannon Devastators. The latter were a great inclusion taking out the Primaris tank with some great shooting, helped by the 2+ anti-vehicle.
Turn 2 was where I won it, burning objectives and deep striking Terminators on my opponents home objective to really steal it. Had we carried on it would’ve been quite tight as the Intercessor squad and hellblasters decimated tac marines, plus the Deathwing Knights smashed the Razorback. I used CP re rolls to keep the plasmacannon alive to ensure another scorched objective. Was great fun and both of us seemed as interested in having fun as making meta decisions.
This weekend I did manage to finish all of the reinforcements and I even remembered to take decent pictures… though I forgot to get better Razorback pics. Let’s start with the Chaplain who now rocks a jump pack
Not my best work, but the jump pack looks pretty good and he’ll have fun jumping around with the Vanguard Vets.
I’ll post more pics later, thanks for looking

Next batch of pics is the Devastators with Gravcannons. These guys performed exactly how I had hoped in my last game. Need to decide whether to stick with them or mix in a couple of Multimeltas for the next round against Necrons.
I also made a good start on my next project; getting my Death Guard to a playable level. First I tidied up the black primer coat as I always miss a few bits. I then highlighted the armour with a stippled layer of Phoenician Purple
Next was a similar highlight of Unifrom Grey
That was last night and today I primed a second Blight Hauler which quickly got highlighted to the same level. I then made a start on the trim… so much trim!
I nearly gave up after 3, but glad I pushed on to complete the squad. It wasn’t too bad so I hope to get the rest done in the next couple of days.
On a related note, are you guys aware of minicompare.com? It’s really handy if you’re thinking of proxy-ing models. For instance, I need some Chaos Spawn for the Crusade in case any of my characters come to Nurgles attention in the wrong way. Turns out the Gellerpox infected big’uns are a very similar height. I just need to give them a 50mm base extender
Thanks for looking

With today being a bank holiday I managed to squeeze in a bit of painting and got all of the brass trim done on the Death Guard (well, apart from the bits i missed of course!
The 7 Plague Marines and the Noxious Blightbringer also got their steel bits painted. As with the Kill Team, it’s far from my neatest work, but I reckon I’ll hide most of my sins when I darken the armour with Ratling Grime. The eagle eyed will also notice that Typhus has taken a backseat as the Crusade won’t include Epic Heroes up front. So I swapped in my Lord of Virulence instead. Hoping to sneak in a little painting tomorrow before we go on holiday on Wednesday. Would be good to get the Metals basecoated before then.
Back to the completed pics, here’s the Captain with a Jump Pack armed with a Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield, aka Smash Captain
I really should fix that foot’s bare plastic
I forgot to write angthing on the shield for those pics, but remembered to take a pic after fixing that
I thought it’d be fun to say ’above’ in Latin as an homage to death from above
Thanks for looking

I must’ve picked that up from you! I just hope I’ve not triggered carpal tunnel issues with all that trim and steel work!
No progress but some more finished pics. This time the Vanguard Veterans
I think these guys might be my favourite looking Panthers to date, especially the pose of the Sgt and the Superhero landing chap
I even had a bit of fun with their scrolls. 50 internet cookies for anyone who gets it
Here’s a clue, there’s a strong Bristol linkage with this one, and despite being in Latin the first word is the same (one word per pic, even though pic 2 is on 2 plates)
This one is more of an internet meme
I Latin again, and technically missing a word for the full meme

Loving the marines - as far as painting the terrain goes - go for something complimentary to either the marines or the nurgles (But why nurgle?!) - So green and silver to go opposite purple & brass/gold then - you could do a molted black to green approach which would be awesome with silver details. Just my two cents but if you put the plastic pieces on bases then your basing could be matched up and that would also sell the connection (and make your marines pop against the terrain itself). Then again, I'm a HUGE fan of basing terrain pieces (both for drama and for the ease of which you can say 'yes in terrain' or no not at all.

Ha! Yeah, I’ve been on a bit of a roll lately with the League spurring me on to paint more minis.

Thanks blockade, I was thinking either pale grey or cream for the terrain, but green could be an interesting choice too. I’ve seen some cool green buildings online but not sure I’ve got suitable greens in my stocks, will have to see if I can mix something. As for bases I’m definitely leaning towards having them. I’ve found a few suitable stls that should work with a few mods
SarpedonofSotha wrote:Looking just amazing! You've been prolific!
Thanks Sarpedon, it’s amazing how a deadline can motivate. And welcome to my plog!
Well we had a great few days at Disneyland Paris, the kids were beaming the whole time and me and Mrs gobert are totally done in now! But I still managed to squeeze in a bit of hobby time last night whilst watching the F1. I didn’t do much but got the bone and horn bits done on about half of the minis
Tonight I also got the Noxious Blightbringer, Biologus Putrifier, Tallyman and one of the Deathshroud’s bones/horns/teeth/cloth/paper/skin basecoated. Should finish that job tomorrow and move on to the fleshy protrusions before doing the goop and bases. At that point I’ll call them Battle Ready for the Crusade that starts in July. I think my list will then need another 10 Poxwalkers on top of the 10 I did at the start of the year. At which point I can be satisfied to play with them before I start to do the detailed steps. Once that’s done I can add more units when I think am need them.
Thanks for looking

Thanks for spreading the insanity
Last weekend wasn’t massively productive but I managed to get a game in on Saturday night at home. Volkus plus a few other pieces worked pretty well, so when I finally have the Sector Imperialis stuff built and painted I shall have quite a dense boards worth of terrain. Here’s a few pics;
The game was only 1k, and was my first running full changeable secondaries. They weren’t too much to get my head around and I actually scored quite well on them. I ended up losing the game, but we were neck and neck until the final turn. It’d have been much closer had I not been greedy and moved my terminators off an objective to kill a Leman Russ. The more I play opponents who are stacking loads of buffs, the more I realise the Firstborn really are hindered, particularly the Tactical Marines. Which brings me on to the kings of buffs…
The other night I started doing the Ratling Grime on the Plague Marines, getting them all darker and grimed up. Rubbing it back with a small make up sponge wedge really seems like a similar effect to oil washes but without the stench
I then made a start on the fleshy bits and have seemingly abandoned the plan to just do one base coat colour, and have since done 3 highlights in the Special Weapons and the Blight Haulers.
The eagle eyed amongst you might even spot that they are slightly different. I abandoned the blue-purple-pink for all marines and tweaking mcmatilllas idea of a different colour per squad, I’ll be doing each specialist differently.
Regular Marines - blue-purple-pink
Bubonic Weapons - purple-red-orange
Plague Weapons - Red-Orange-yellow
Heavy weapons - Orange-Yellow-Green
Special Weapons - Yellow- Green-Blue
Vehicles - Green-Blue-Purple
Hopefully that will also help me figure out what bonuses they each get!
The bases actually got an airbrush layer of yellow that gave their feet a nice dusty effect that hopefully the darling grime hasn’t ruined or vice versa. That was because I actually had my second “commission” which was a dead simple base coating of some Eldar Grav Tanks.
It wasn’t anything complicated, but was good airbrush practice. It was for a guy in the Warhammer league and the payment will be a game against them when they’re finished. I just need to stay away from that Fire Prisms scary gun!
Thanks for looking
