Its that they are all space marines. It doesn't really matter how different they, the fact they are all space marines guarantee that if I buy one that's all I'm buying.

Yes, that's why there's a large variety of licensed product using the Warhammer 40K / Age of Sigmar IPs. It's as close to 'free money' as a company can get.

Yeah... GW doesn't invest anything in this. This is licensing. Funko pays them.

Why buy anything?

Some people like the style of Pops, some people don't. I avoided buying them because they never made anything that appealed to me until they this guy and this guy.

Who is anyone to say that they shouldn't get them or that getting one is mad/crazy/stupid?

Two important questions.

1. Will they be doing Abaddon?

2. And if so, will the arms be detachable?

Equally, if it’s one sculpt but a repaint only, Funko get to appeal to more than the fans of one Chapter, guaranteeing more “just buying one” sales, and they appeal to collectors wanting the set!

Given the nature of the hobby, it would be interesting if they did a blank one you were intended to paint yourself.

Yes, because if Funko approached GW then your complaint has no merit.

So to confirm, it looks like 4 Space Marine Funkos:
-DA vet
-SW blood claw
-Primaris (likely UM)
-Assault Marine (likely BA)

Too bad Funkos are HIDEOUS, or I'd get them all.
But anything that puts 40k into the "mainstream" is good by me.

It's mostly disbelief tbh. It's not like these are "proper" collectibles, they're not some holiday souvenir tied to a precious memory, they're just mass-produced shelf-tat - I think many of us just can't fathom why anyone would buy them.

Mass produced shelf tat you say? The missus would label my lovingly arranged 1/35 scale model collection and Warhammer armies in the same bracket, careful now!

There are plenty of people that cannot fathom why we pay so much for plastic men, its all subjective, who are you to say whether its a proper collectable or not ?

I am not really a fan at all but i fail to see any problem, its not like them selling a few figures is going to have any effect on anything GW or FW does, apart from maybe sell a few marines.

I want to see the Funkodex to know how playable they are before sinking any money into them. On the upside, it will be great to have an option for a pre-painted army!

I'm not attacking anyone, and it's not a problem.

As for "proper collectible", what I mean is it has no scarcity. You're not buying something that has a high chance of holding or significantly improving its value, or trying to complete some defined "set", it's just a bit of plastic that sits on a shelf, like the bajillion other exact copies. And there's nothing wrong with being happy with a bit of plastic that just sits on a shelf...I just don't get it.

That's also how it differs from models, incidentally - they have a purpose beyond the simple owning of them. The reason some people struggle to grasp why we pay so much for them is that they don't grasp that, they can't see that we're not paying for "plastic men", but for the experience of assembling them, painting them, playing games with them. In short, they see them as being just like Funko Pops, but the issue there is their misperception.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Not a "proper collectable?" Go ahead and look for a Stan Lee POP! Or a Conan. Or any GenCon or Comic Con exclusive. Or the alternate colors. Or any limted release.

Its a company that does exactly "proper collectables."

These releases will not be, but the line as a whole definittley fits the mold.

Not understanding why people buys this figures to put them on the shelf is like not understanding why people put paintings on the walls...
Because they like how it looks, is aesthetically pleasing and the fact and feeling you own it is something you value?

Or worse. Depending your point of view.

Also everyone knows Mega Bloks will get the IP rights first because they're smart enough to hop on those things. Lego doesn't do anything overtly "violent" to an extent, which is why you'll never get close to realistic guns anymore.

They could've changed that stance since I was a teenager but that's basically what they operated as for me growing up.

Ah yes Funko paying GW for right to use means GW has less money to spend on plastic models yeah right.

Do you really think Funko would pay for GW to make plastic models? What's the cut for Funko for that? You think GW is then going to give money to Funko? Lol. That would be reverse style of business.

I find the whole thing utterly distasteful and cringey, but if it means you all throw money at GW related products you would not normally have done, then maybe it'll be a successful licensing, and in turn GW will make some money off it, and in turn I'll get a better game.40

I really would rather you brought a pretty 40k Model to clutter up your desk/shelves. Would you really have one of these things than a beautifully painted Primarch?

I don't think I'm wrong if I say your average person can paint primarch well...While these comes ready without painting. Doubtful market is those who want 28mm scaled beautifully painted miniatures to buy.
