Nice work Captain. I like the facial scar. Looks good.

Dead shot- so many arms are they magnetized?

I have also finished thanks to the gentle pressure of this comp. I find it really helps me through the doldrums of the models not yet looking as good as you would like because they aren't really done enough

So I tried zenithal shading on these guys, but you can't really tell under the washes also a little bit of attempted light sourcing on the shoulder pad. I'm happy with how they turned out really. Not looking forward to coming up against them Blackstone side though

Yeah, all but the flamer arm is magnetised! More a necessity than plan as the tiny stumps I had left to glue them to were not secure enough. That said, it worked out in the end as I can now run him as having a Servo-Arm singular or with full-harness.

I find myself really liking the freehand work on those, Flinty! Especially the loincloth, its cool to have the half symbol there, adds a bit of flair to it in a way! I don't recognise the models though? They look like the Dark Vengeance bolter Chosen but different as well.

Thanks

The green guy has the other side of the circle, but I seem to have managed to not show that in any of the photos.

The models are from Blackstone Fortress and I guess are representative of all the spanky new chaos marine range.

Ah, crap, totally forgot that, it's been a busy month. Putting together a last-minute poll now!

Here you go. Only 3 options as that's what I could come up with off the top of my head (would you believe after 50 of these I'm struggling to avoid duplicates? )

Seeing that we are in year 5, you could just let us vote from one of the previous month’s entries and have your 4 choices...

So, I finished Huron. I forgot to include his Hamaydra (sp?) in the WIP, but, IDK, take him or leave him for voting purposes... He's got a marine helmet on his base, so maybe he counts?

True, when I've got more time I'll go back and pick some out that never made it, and recycle some of those. I'd ideally want to avoid any that have already been done (at least verbatim, there may be some overlap and probably already has been).

Here's my proof pic, taken right at the start of the month, but only posted now. It's been a stressful month, we're still selling a house, among other things.

I have been working on him quite a bit already. I've been using some Dalor Rowney acrylic inks. I sprayed them through an airbrush, before using a brush with them to refine the highlights. There's a bit of a sheen to them, as you'd expect, although it looks quite matte in the photos. I've painted him lit from the side to give a more interesting atmosphere. I actually think this mini, which came on the front of a magazine, is really fantastic. It's understated and menacing, and not festooned with skulls. I don't know what I'm going to do with the base yet, but I probably don't have time to do anything particularly interesting. I imagine him walking down the corridor of a space hulk, so maybe a generic sci-fi bit of flooring.

My phone has helpfully flattened out the lighting contrast I've put on him. The difference between the light and dark areas is much more extreme than it appears here.

And done!

This entry was a lot of fun to work with.
It was the first space marine I have ever painted, first time trying out NMM and the first time doing an snowy rocky base with icicles. So lots of firsts

Very happy how it turned out.
There are always things I could have done better. Maybe next time.

I was going to say the same, until I spotted the NMM gold on the hilt and Aquila! Excellent work!

There's been entirely too many extremely well done entries this past week, lets break that streak:

Final pics:

So, yeah, as you can tell from the tags, I really felt this did not come together at all. I was trying to do block-camo like my entry from last year, but larger blocks so it didn't break up the outline as badly. Didn't really work, should have done a lighter color, then a dark outline around them (kinda tried it the other way when it first didn't work, but didn't do the interior layer neatly enough.) Plus side, I think the panel lines kinda came out, though the edge highlights are pretty trash--the guns are too sharp, and the blue around the armor is too thin. Just really not happy with it, but outta time and energy to strip and redo or jump to something else. Sorry guys.

I’m finished too but will have to wait I finish work or the weekend to get daylight photos, my dslr wasn’t having fun with incandescent lights

I forgot how difficult it was to assemble the landspeeder crew and position them and I wish I hadn’t put the pilots targeter on it’s just too big for what it is

Just a proof of finishing

So, it's highly unlikely this guy is getting finished. Partly because I can't paint this evening or Saturday, but mostly because I'm a fool. Every time I use GW's whites or light greys it always goes terribly, the paint clumps and it looks gak. And every time I tell myself I'm not doing that again. And then I try it again a few months later. I tried saving it with eshin grey but the lumps had set. So I scratched it all off and I'm gonna reprime and try again with blue, allude to the OG raptor colours. It's OOP so I can't really have it look gak. I'll try find a suitable model on Sunday that an be painted in a day so I at least submit something.

Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

It's probably because you're trying to apply it over a dark layer, and going to heavy as a result. You should lay your light layers down first wherever possible. If not you need to work your way up in layers getting lighter each time
