Yeah, not really.

But there are some alternatives out there.

Will be available in-store for re-brandings, new openings, and relocations.

Price unconfirmed at this time. And yes, the Loot Group will be happy to help where possible. Debut is at Warhammer Ballarat, 30th March 2019.

Nope, lumpy painting, puffy features, and weird proportions aren't fixed much by softening the features. Still better, but not great.

The backlash on FB was pretty harsh.

It's long past time to leave this practice of "store" only releases in the past. I'm hoping someone took note of the anger over this.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Oh goody, I can't wait to read the inevitable thinkpieces about how this is evidence we're a hobby filled with basement-dwelling man-trogs regardless of the actual context.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Well, it was kept pretty respectful tbh.

Mostly people really wanted to get across the point that hundreds of us want the model, but we can't get it.

We want to give you money, but GW wants to not take it. Strange.

To be fair, they did say that it also will be available at "refurbishing" and "renaming".

Wasn't there something awhile ago about them wanting to rebrand all their shops to "Warhammer" stores instead of Games Workshop?

The closest Games Workshop store to me is over 200 miles away. That was the chief complaint from many people.

At one store at a time... scattered all over the world.

If they had in-store only products available everywhere then you might have a point.

At specific events at those specific stores, yes. Seriously, you knew that and just wanted to be argumentatively obtuse.

Argumentative? Maybe. Obtuse? Not at all.

But I don't see why offering in-store only products at all stores is a problem. If the idea is to incentivise people to go to the store, then why not do it in all stores?

FWIW, as someone with both a GW in town and a somewhat busy life, every time there's been an exclusive there, I've thought about it for a while, and settled on not buying it, feeling vaguely resentful that I need to meet their timeline etc. While I might not have been tempted to buy some (that I still didn't), there are a few that I would very much have liked to buy, but an overpriced promo wasn't getting me into the store.

Maybe if GW made those promos on the cheap side, so they really were a loss leader, they might have motivated me to get in to pick up something cool and impulse buy some other stuff, but $30+ is a decent night out, buying a book/movie or two, or, in the most direct comparison, a good chunk of other board game content. The minor stress of an impulse buy decision always has me choosing not to at their prices.

As I said, the idea is to incentivize people to go to the event, not just the store. Hell, it's already pulled me into at least 3 of these things over various years.

I don't play modern 40K or AOS, so there'd have to be one hell of an event to lure me in. Sad, since some models I'd love to have, like the Chaplain or Captain.

This. There are a few GW's within about an hour of me, but I'm rarely actually passing any of them and usually take the kids out somewhere on Saturdays (launch days), so it's really hard getting to a particular store on a particular day (and my local is a 1-man so it's often closed for an hour midday too). They've now also all been opened/refurbished/moved so I'm probably looking at a 2 hour round trip to pick up a figure and I probably couldn't justify that even if the figure was free.

If only some dashingly handsome Interwebular Cretain had founded a FB group to help thwart Scalpers....they could do a run to Reading's rebranding, bagging nearly 120 exclusive models for people, at strict cost!

What a world that would be

As for the Chaplain? We don't know at the moment.

Reading was last year, when I absolutely rinsed them (they were happy!)

Next one near to me, I don't know. But, my local Store is on the list for a general refurb, so could be going Warhammer this year. I'll let peeps know.

However, in terms of the Loot Group, I'm currently on a sabbatical from Admin duties. Got an awful lot on my plate in real life, and can't spare the spoons. Any questions, join the group and ask away!
