Regarding the WGA poll, I assume they will exercise veto rights in case the winning kits are too over the top, such as "Hollywood Hookers with Sex Toys", would get them in trouble with GW Legal (Totally Not Primaris Adeptus Astartes), or are too obscure, like the Schaumburg-Lippe kit.* While WGA does want to get an idea what will sell, they also want to remain in business.

I mean, if they never had any intention to actually produce them, then why put them as an option in the poll even? Surely, it would've been much simpler to simply only put kits you'd be willing to produce as options, in the poll, rather than bloating it out with a number of option that you're just going to veto if they get a lot of votes?

It’s part of a recent fad of converting a mish mash of historicals kits, gluing bits of twigs and other organic material all over them, and giving them washed-out paintjobs; presumably all in aid of resembling John Blanche art?

If this craze picks up some speed, WGA could stand to make some cash off of it with all their reasonably-priced plastic historicals.

The poll options were all submitted by customers, not by the company. And I think the prize if your option wins is some free sprues, not that they will absolutely make the option that wins.

Yes nice concepts and I even voted for some of them, but it feels like they could have vetted a tiny bit better.

I like idea of Republican Rome Goblins, but much like how I noted with the Ogres, I am a sucker for monster races in a civilized light. Not saying tribal societies cannot be civilized, but your standard depiction of Goblins is generally at "wallowing in their own filth" levels.

I don't know why but Rome is always my favourite "culture" to borrow for evil monster races that are also "civilized".

Maybe thats why I love WoD WoW's ogres.

Rome is cool, though I personally find others a bit cooler. I think its because last time I ran D&D I decided instead of standard medieval timeframe to set it in "think 1840-1910, but with MAGIC", so there were Hobgoblin industrial nations with armored cars and riflemen in a totally not Austria Hungary rip off dual monarchy with a human nation, along with kobolds into body horror transformation stuff, and an undead faction deeply worried about how no new ideas were getting into the state since every leader was 500+ years old and were stuck in their ways ("a horde of zombies worked to overwhelm those pesky musketmen 200 years back, it should be no different taking on that machine gun nest, just send more zombies!").

Long story short, sticking classically monstrous races into 19th and early 20th century roles is a really neat concept to me.

Also man, I was so confused as I thought you were saying World of Darkness and World of Warcraft together, not apparently an expansion to World of Warcraft.

It gives them an idea of what potential customers want. If something is submitted out of the blue that had not occurred to them, but has mass appeal, then they find untapped potential. Just think of this as an extended brainstorming session for WGA.

Thanks for the answer. So worlds in which it is hip to cover yourself with assorted garden clippings, but with none of the function of a ghillie suit. Not my thing, thanks.

If I do imagi-Nations, I'll do it Old School, with my own color scheme on actual historicals, be it Napoleonics or Seven Years War.

Not quite. Its more of a mutation/side effect of the environment. The idea of Turnip28 is that its a post-apocalyptic setting where root vegetables and moldy growths have taken over the world (or something). As the rulebook opens:

Mud-churned swampland stretches out into the gloom. Thick fog hangs heavy in the air. Rolling barrows loom
out of the murk. A strange root writhes underfoot. A thousand years after the defeat of Napoleon at the Battle
of Austerlitz, the world has fallen into decay. Endless war has led to technology stagnating, and beautiful
countrysides have been ground to a thick ruin under the boots of a million dead men. Now, nothing grows. A bizarre
and horrible root covers the land: strangling the life from the trees, poisoning the water, and filling the sky with an acrid
mist. Humanity barely endures by harvesting this disgusting tuber. It twists their bodies and minds, and infests their
thoughts with divine visions of lost vegetables. Bizarre religious orders have formed, and they stockpile abandoned
weapons unearthed by the twisting roots. Marching in column under fluttering banners, and brandishing mud-clogged
muskets and rusted bayonets, they are cruel parodies of long-forgotten armies on the march.
Gather your troops. Fix bayonets. Devote yourself to the roots.

The whole "moss coat" thing is a term that I just made up and not necessarily an accurate description of things. This is what the typical Turnip minis look like:

Sounds neat, I'd play in that campaign.

Since the Armies of Mordor were (supposedly) heavily influenced by Tolkien's experiences in WWI it's actually highly appropriate.

Conceptually it is chaos kinda.
Modelwise, you got access to a lot of options for a relative cheap price.
Modelingwise.. well you can do alot of wierd things within it.

Ruleswise, it seems solid.

Lots of cool stuff in this one but again lots of repeats. There's at least 3 things that boil down to "fishmen" here and I think there was at least 1 in each previous round...

I wonder what "La Patrie 1814" means. French Partisans/Home Guard? Or Regular Army Veterans?

My first reflex was to mark the dwarfs because , you know, dwarves are cool.

Then I remembered that everybody and his mother is doing multipart plastic dwarfs , the only ones that retired the ones they had were GW.

But I'll admit: More and more I'm prefering WA to the competition, be them Mantic, Perry, Oathmark, Frostgrave, etc... so actually I'm sure I would like aesthetically, price wise, and option wise, more their offering of fantasy dwarves than the others of those companies.

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

The rules are simple and fun, and the modeling aspect allows for some dark and unique expression. I find it to be a nice break from my other games and the tongue-in-cheek depressive/oppressive storyline appeals.

A lot of repeats or narrowly focused niche historicals this time around.

I still keep voting for ancients that don't really have much representation in plastic, along with some of the more unique sounding scifi stuff.

Continuing trend of questionable (mostly historical) options on that there list. WW1 Belgians? Mostly WW1 French uniforms (with English/American style uniforms for officers) in a different color.unless you're talking 1914 Belgians in parade uniforms, in which case you get slightly more distinctive headgear. Otherwise you're mostly talking about French style greatcoats (even for officers) and Adrian helmets, etc. Would be really cool if they offered Weekers helmets, but not entirely historical.

No, and they implied they hadn’t been planning to make one when asked....despite implying they were definitely planning to make this kit when the first French Partisan kit came out and everyone wanted to know if there would be a box of women.

Thanks for the reply. Now that conversion is interesting in a surrealist sort of way. Sort of Plague Doctor. But I would not want an army (or even a skirmishing warband) of such conversions and paint schemes. {One or two for variety, or special RPG encounter ...} If other people do, and come up with some interesting and clever conversions, more power to them.

My votes for WGA Round 4 voting.

Women Partisans: Fighters in the French Resistance
Pre-Columbian Andean warriors
Clockwork Victorian police officers
Deep-sea trident folk
Chinese Warring States/3 Kingdoms Infantry
Space Amazons
Space Mafia: Capo and Mob
VSF (Victorian Science Fiction) Martians

Didn't the female partisans show up in round three as well? Anyway, I voted for them again. The multitude of fishfolk confused me, so I went with trident folk. [Can use them in my KoW Northern Alliance army.] While I doubt the Andean Warriors or Warring States/3 Kingdoms Chinese will get enough votes to remain in contention, the former isn't made even in metal, and no one makes any ancient/medieval Chinese in plastic. Three Kingdoms infantry might sell. The Space Amazons and Mafia are for Stargrave options; I do like the thought of having a Capo and assorted rubber forehead alien gangsters on the table, much like Jabba and his goons in Episode Six. And Steampunk and clockwork automatons are just cool.

When I was still a member of a more historical oriented miniature gaming forum, I remember there being interest in Three Kingdoms plastics, with some slight crossover with the Sengoku Japanese gamers who wanted to fight Hideyoshi's Korean campaign. Three Kingdoms would be out of date for the Korean invasion, but a cheaper option for Sengoku players, who otherwise have to find metal Chinese. Even though it isn't part of their cultural heritage, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms is big in Japan. Lots of Japanese video games and manga/anime use RoTK as the source or inspiration.

Yes, there was a kung fu wuxia set in an early round, but it isn't a box I'd buy. Just a sprue or two for RPGs or skirmish games.

I voted for those sets.

Mostly I vote for historicals that aren’t Napoleonic, WW1/2, Romans, or super specific, obscure sideshows to already-covered conflicts. Lots of ancient kits and non-European sets would be a boon to my bits box.

I also vote for almost all the fantasy and Sci fi kits unless they’re covered or are stupid.

IIRC, you were looking for Chinese-themed figures for a project some time ago. And we both own the Fireforge Mongol Infantry box and agree on how horrible the faces are. A well done option for Chinese infantry of that time period would be a boon.
