I want that set.

They make good objectives for ancients/medieval/Dark Age games, and they can also make good obstacles/terrain features for any setting.

I was talking to a guy who used to cast metal minis, and he was telling me the farm animal sets sold ridiculously more than everything else in the range, to the point that the animals paid for everything else to get made.

No idea who's buying them.

All kind of historical landscapes for museums, christmas stuff, etc...
Possibly school projects as well. A local hobby store (railways & model kits) carries assorted animals in different scales mostly for the model railroaders, but also as sometimes older students in the K-12 range need them for dioramas or other school assignments.

Also, some Ancient rules do use animals. Packs of hunting dogs, stampeding cattle (as mentioned earlier), and just color for the Baggage Train or Camp, or as Ambush markers. Is that really a flock of sheep, or is there a company of slingers concealed behind it? And capturing the enemy Baggage Train or Camp is demoralizing for them, bringing you closer to victory.

I love the Warlord animal set. I would buy a Watlantic set if they had one.

Me too.

It is pretty exciting to see what is in the pipeline.

I hope WA keeps doing well enough to make all these kits reality.

Firelock? So does this mean that WA are the ones who are doing the sloops and pirate minis from Firelock's last kickstarter?

I cant read the writing on the sprue, but kind of looks like it?

I can read the sailor sprue, but it says Firelock.

They probably would both say Firelock even if Wargames Atlantic is producing them, thats typically how these partnerships/outsourcing things go. You don't think Wyrd Miniatures does its own toolmaking and plastic production do you? It is of course outsourced to another firm.

Yeah, the renders look nice. I'm not saying I'd have any actual use for most of the animals, but I'd buy a box/sprue all the same just as I did with Warlord's plastic animals.

I must have somehow missed it, my apologies.

As a curiosity, the Aztecs don't have a picture of the sprue among the preview images, while the Conquistadors have very nice, high quality ones

How do the conquistadors compare size-wise to GW's Free Cities infantry? Could you viably kitbash them with each other?

No way, historicals and GW don't mesh.

So they're tiny?

WA’s historicals are not tiny like early Perry or Warlord minis, but they are “weedy”. Due to differences between true scale and heroic scale, their heads, hands and weapons are much smaller, and their torsos are longer and narrower.

However, GW has been moving towards a less “heroic” scale lately, so they might look better next to more recent miniatures than they would alongside Cadians or Bretonnians.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
If you have any Wargames Factory WW2 plastics, they are roughly the same size and proportions as WA’s minis. Victrix is also similar, but Victrix heads are a bit blockier.

Their more recent miniatures are also all bloody huge to the point most of their stuff will probably be around a head taller than a WGA mini.

I hadn’t realized that. I haven’t bought any recent GWminis, just seen them online.

Big part of making stuff like Wargames Atlantic or other historicals fitting in with 40k or fantasy is using GW style bases on them. Most other bases are a lot slimmer than the big chunky gw bases, and it makes the models look way smaller than they are when theyre near actual GW models. With GW style bases, they'll still be a little smaller, but it won't be near as noticeable. Ive never had issues with people accepting my Warlord Games soviets I use for Valhallans thanks to using GW 25mms on them instead of the Warlord waifer thin ones.

You can find very cheap GW style bases on ebay, usually a 100 pack is around 10 bucks for the more common types. Some models dont even come with bases so youll need them anyways.

I use GW bases for everything as a unifying element yes.

But you can't swap parts between GW and historicals other than sometimes heads. GW arms are thicker than historical legs.

Same here. Also like the bardiche-styled axes and polearms. If single sprues show up on eBay, I'll get one. Or maybe I'll get a full box. Did not originally have a need for raumjager or the lizardmen when they first released, but bought a box of both for conversions. So if inspiration strikes ...

I don't know why the Egyptians are sculpted to look like body builders. I wish they looked a little more realistic and less like fantasy barbarians.

Because they're gonna be bloody tiny and anything less would be borderline unnoticeable as buffness.

Looks like another home run to me. If nothing else, they can be Kingdoms of Men allies in a Empire of Dust army.

Y'know, people always seem to like WGA historicals but there's others that never get mentioned on Dakka. Like here's some upcoming Victrix stuff.
