Y'know, people always seem to like WGA historicals but there's others that never get mentioned on Dakka. Like here's some upcoming Victrix stuff.
Spoiler:

Doesn't Victrix have a thread?

Ophidia and its unusual society keeps getting mentioned in the background sections of the Kings of War rule book, but there's still no rules for tabletop. If Mantic ever releases rules for Ophidia, you could use these WGA New Kingdom Egyptians and the Mantic Empire of Dust side by side in an Ophidian Kings of War army.

It took them a while, but they did produce the Northern Alliance. Perhaps they'll get around to Ophidia.

At this stage in KoW's life Mantic is not going to release a new list intended for proxying, they will only put out Ophidia rules at the same time they put out Ophidia models.

Is there any word on when in January those Victrix Romans/Britons/Goths come out? Because they seem like they might be EXACTLY what I'm looking for...

I think the victrix miniatures as significantly better miniatures. They probably don't get mentioned much here because they only do historical miniatures and don't have fantasy and sci-fi ranges.

That and even within the historicals category they are fairly limited to a decent range of Ancients, a small range of Dark Ages, an incomplete range of Napoleonics, and - for some reason - an even more incomplete range of 12mm WW2. I think it just works out such that even with Dakka having a decent community of historical wargamers, they just don't cover enough bases to come up in conversation all that often.

I also don't think they have a very robust marketing or social media presence, I don't see a single radio button for any of the social media channels on their site, didn't bother checking facebook/twitter, etc. for an account but I'm guessing they don't exist. I would guess thats the real difference maker to explain how WGA has been so much more successful in terms of gaining attention and popularity despite being a significantly younger company and not having minis that are nearly as well sculpted (not intended as an insult to WGA, just that Victrix sculpts really are phenomenal).

EDIT - Found the victrix facebook link, its hidden alllll the way at the bottom of the page and is not a radio button, just a link that says "Facebook". Decent following at 12k likes (WGA has 7.4k), new post every few days, doesn't seem to have a discussion group like WGA does.

I mostly like WGA for the non-historicals, aka the pseudo-historical fantasy and the sci-fi kits. So would make sense why i haven't quite heard of Victrix.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Ive been trying to figure out roughly how many points it would build. It looks tailor made to do what I wanted of a small empire army.

How do the Victrix historicals scale? Similar to the WGA historicals?

I don't have WGA historicals to compare to but they stack up favorably with warlord and perry, I would say on average slightly taller than warlord, slightly beefier than perry, only going to notice the disparity if you're looking for it.

I post a lot about Victrix as I do a lot of 28mm Victrix. Maybe we need a Victrix thread in the New Release section.

As for the New Kingdom, until there is a chariot I am not that interested. Once we get chariots, then my ears will really perk up.

Conquistadores and Aztecs I will buy once my Irish and Persians are done.

I’m up for a Victrix thread. They make some great plastics.

As for the New Kingdom, they also fought on boats and by siege. Chariots are the dream, but I can still get excited for the archers and footmen.

I have some Victrix. I got the naked Gauls and the Elephant. They are well detailed, but a bit taller than Warlord and Gripping Beast, which is fine for the Gauls, but I was not so keen on taller Romans and Greeks.

Victrix are a bit bigger than WA, but they still fit very well. Even many parts are interchangeable, as the heads often have the same connectors. I have mixed several Victrix ancient Germans into my WA Irish army and they don't stand out.

The Romans might be more of an issue, as they are more uniform and it looks better if all figures in a unit have the same armor, shields and weapons. But there will be a lot of potential for kitbashing for sure.

If the minis are tiny compared to my FF Northmen then for me they are tiny no matter what scale they are.

The Oathmark guy is on an integral base, but doesnt look out of place next to a GW greatsword. The Oathmark guy is a little rounder than the greatsword and his head is a little bigger.

I am not really fond of the Oathmark humans as they are a bit comical. But looking at the pic of the Conquistador next to the oathmark human, I think the conquistador should look fine next to GW or Fireforge.

Snapped a pic for you. I think they will be fine.

Ha ha, if it only would be so simple (the knowledge that they are smaller is still there in my head).

well as everyone, specially in the middle ages every single person was exactly 180cm tall, so having models that are slightly different in size and shape are unhistorical and need to be avoided at any cost

Height is less an issue than chunkyness. North Star look just fine as short folks next to GW, but historicals and North Star/GW on the same table looks like different characters in the same movie were filmed at different aspect ratios.
