Boxers!

THE DRAGON WAKES!

China 1899. A populist movement secretly supported by the Empress Dowager has risen up to expel all foreigners from Chinese soil. Called the Yihequan (Fists of Harmony and Justice) but “Boxers” by foreigners because their members practiced martial arts, the group attacked both foreign residents of China and Chinese who had converted to Christianity.

The uprising culminated in the siege of Peking (Beijing) with the small forces of the foreign Legations surrounded and besieged. A relief column was quickly cobbled together by the Eight Nation Alliance made up of Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, Austo-Hungary, Italy, and the United States. After brutal fighting the Legation Quarter was liberated in August 1900.

This hard plastic box set allows you to build up to 30 warriors with options to create the famed Kansu (Gansu) Braves and Tigermen. This box can also be used for other periods like the Opium Wars, the Taiping Rebellion, the First Sino-Japanese War, and into the 20th century.

I'd say 'too' great. Two rifles, two spears, and dude with sword and pistol per 5 bodies - imagine ork boyz kit was so incoherent, usual people complaining about GW would spam the sprue pic in every GW thread

I also like stereotypical meat cleaver used by all Asian characters as a weapon in racist 80s movies - was it even a thing in Boxer period China, never mind common enough to be a dime a dozen infantry weapon?

The Chinese cleaver has a long, long history and would have certainly been common enough to be used as an improvised weapon by a civilian mob

Yes it has long history, but I actually looked it up before making this comment and 1800s cleavers I found looked like thicker knives, not stereotypical, curved, industrial mass made ones used in movies, it just didn't look period (or continent) appropriate to me at all. Compare Chinese and US style of these, it's pretty obvious:

The top of those is actually a Chinese càidāo, not a cleaver, but something that would more properly referred to as a Chinese chef's knife, and it's rather close to appearance to what is on the sprue. And I mean, rather appropriate for an improvised weapon.

That's a great call that I hadn't considered and I play DA.

Horses are neat, I'd be interested to see how they go with Perry rider legs.

That's a great horse price. Feels like they slightly missed a trick by not including explicitly SF pieces, like they did with giant spiders, though. Gas mask heads, the occasional cybernetic leg (even if it meant the end user doing a bit of scalpel work).

The article makes it sound like tehy will release accessories to make the horses usable in different things... So i would guess a scifi upgrade sprue is likely.

Edit: That could just be me reading too much in that though as it is not really stated... :(

Not so much that.

I believe the idea is that these sprues can be used to free up space in any new "Cavalry" type kit for specific bitz.

So you may receive X number of these horses sprues, and then a bespoke sprue for that type of cavalry, with riders, all of their stuff, and then specific tack/items for the horses if required.

Can you confirm if the Aztec heads have different faces? IIRC the renders were all one person with different hair.

Bases are up for pre-order on the Wargames Atlantic page. $15 per box of 60 bases, with the usual multi-box discount arrangements.

McDougall designs will have these up for pre-order at a discounted rate off of retail as soon as I'm allowed to by wargames Atlantic

I have to say, i appreciate the 3mm magnet hole on the bases. Handy both for the purposes they mentioned, or for adding a bit of weight to the bases if you're like me and like weighting models.

Hmm..., these are a little more expensive then I was hoping for. Based on this from Hudson.

This was in the WA message boards about 2 months ago

Hudson Adams Moderator: @William Redford what's affordable?

William Redford: @Hudson Adams Well... I can get 100 x gw style 25mm round bases on Amazon for $10. And i can get 30 frostgrave style gray bases on Ebay for $5. Brigade games sells the Green Frostgrave style bases at 10 for $1.50. Now while I dont expect your retail bases to compete with those prices, if they are much higher then I probably wouldnt bother.

Hudson Adams Moderator: @William Redford you should be happy then!

Maybe I read too much in to that though... and it was 2 months ago...

Yea, bases aren't priced that competitively then.
