Stating the obvious: 1/6 scale figure collectors who are also 40K fans/players. If you're disturbed by this, stay away from the Sideshow 1/6 scale figures based on real people. They literally attempt to recreate every visible freckle, mole, blemish, etc. that the actual person has.

This is a really well-crafted figure, but anyone else feel like it's a bit bad faith of GW to let this be a kickstarter? If anyone has the moolah to bankroll this project, it's got to be one of the most successful compainies in the U.K.?

I think it’s amazing they have chosen a small UK based company and not the big name companies in this field. Green Wolf are local to me and I’m delighted they are using them. GW could have chosen anyone but to use a local Northern Ireland company makes me proud as punch of both GW and green wolf. Kickstarter is a great way for companies to raise funds for projects like this. In times like this we should celebrate large companies who are prepared to put faith into small local companies.
They are also all military veterans and are registered as a veteran owned company. Again helping to support veterans in civilian life. Superb from GW.

Not how licensing works. Licensee coughs up for the rights, and development costs are on them.

This isn’t a GW product. So no. Also, every time GW does make something like this we get people complaining that it’s not on Kickstarter or whatever so that they can do a “proper” preorder, whatever that means to them at the time. So still no.
Also, I do wonder what your metric is for company success?

So if I was to be looking for one of the 7" Marines to sit on my shelf (after some conversion). What are the Pros that make the Bandai produced ones worth 5x the McFarlane ones? Is it just better articulation? Because its going to sit (stand) on the shelf. I'm not against purchasing the Bandai version. I just don't see enough difference for the price. But I might be missing something.

Depends what you like. The Bandai model is most definitely the ultra comic book style. It looks like it walked straight out of a marvel mag. The mcfarlane one will probably be similar but with some articulations visible. Looks slimmer than the bulky Bandai model too. If your after ‘real world’ gritty I’m imagining you will need to wait for these green wolf guys to put something out. They are bound to have wax seals and cloaks rather than just different colour paint jobs.

When I go to the Walmart order page, I see it as "delayed". Has any news been posted about this?

Amazon UK says 30th September on the product page but unknown date on order details. There’s been a lot of these figures released recently with the two new Bandai and the guard figure coming at the end of the month. These are the budget figures I would expect them to sell well.

While it's not the sort of thing i particularly have interest in myself, I don't see what's unusual about very high quality, realistic and detailed figures, why would you be "disturbed" at it? There are plenty of high-end figures like this for things like Star Wars and Marvel by Hot Toys, Sideshow collectables etc. Some people just like action figures that are extremely high quality and expensive.

Knockagh wrote:People reporting mcfarlane figure has been cancelled. Saw it on twitter but haven’t had any confirmation myself Source? Because GW themselves mentioned them as recently as 1-2 weeks ago. We've known for about a month that they've been delayed, but cancelling them this close to release means destroying already made product. There's probably some miscommunication and they mean any plans past Wave 1 are cancelled. Edit: Not seeing anything mentioned by any actual reputable toy news sources. McFarlane's site still has them on their upcoming products AND has a mention from this month specifically about the DIY Marine.

Amazon UK has cancelled my unpainted McFarlane Marine pre order, stating that the manufacturer could not supply it. No big deal really, I wonder how widespread this is though.

No idea whats going on with the McFarlanes.
Amazon said my order was delayed, a friend said theirs was cancelled.
The listing has also gone from "Pre-order" to "Unavailable" to "Temporarily out of stock".
Community post says "theyre going up on the 10th for 1 week".
At least 1 other site said "shipping from 17th Oct" and another said "7th Nov".

It might be that they've produced them but factory or shipping limits/issues means that they've not produced enough to stock all suppliers?
That said Amazon has had a preorder for the newest Game of Thrones book for years. Sometimes their release dates are best guesses rather than actual dates given by distribution/manufacture sites.

FWIW Amazon have been doing this a lot lately with a lot of collector toys, and it doesn't mean the item isn't being released. Heck, most of the time it doesn't mean that Amazon isn't getting it even.
It seems like Amazon's systems are beginning to fall apart a bit due to this year, and if something is perhaps delayed then they just end up listing it as unavailable, tell everyone they can't get it, and cause panic.

I've seen a few other stores doing the same. I think its that supplies are really unreliable at present and stores didn't want to be taking money and having to give refunds for stock that they might not get in soon enough since that all costs money to refund and to process. So instead they adopt a policy of if its not in the warehouse its "sold out" on the system to discourage buying

I'm a little disturbed at how much thought is going into these dolls and their accessories. Who is the target market for this?
I believe people like me. I collect genesis climber mospeada figures from sentinel. My yellow belmont mospeada cost me 316$ canadian. It's 1/12th scale. Fully articulated, 3 different hand grips, two Galant H-90 guns one with rifle stock and silencer, one without. The motorcycle (called a MOSPEADA) is plastic and die cast. Fully transforms into powered armour that is worn. It's bloody gorgeous.
On the second hand market the other two mospeadas are going between 700-1200$ ..... If you can find them.
The Legioss ( Legioss Robotech new generation alpha fighter) is 1/48 scale, diecast and plastic and is pretty anime acurate. this ran me about 450$ cad. It's the blue eta version , I also pre ordered the red sega version for about 380$cad new on preorder.
People do have disposable income. I find value in them even if others don't. Just like I don't find value in one monopose plastic figure for 40$ cad. Can I afford it? Yes. Would I ever start a GW 40k army again never. Not even China cast anymore. The physical models don't interest me anymore but I still like the old 40k and HH universes.
That IG officer looks great and I might get him if the fancy tickles me. That's the market gw is after with the IG figure.
Now I know my opinion isn't going to change anyone's mind ( opinions are like aholes, everyone ones one and most of them stink), but the quality looks good. Yet I wouldn't touch the Bandai ones although the McFarlane ones are cheep enough to use as conversion fodder to make a mk6 or pre heresy armour mk conversion.
Just like I would drop the money for the new N4 infinity rulebook but I wouldn't touch a newish codex/ 40k rulebook even for a fiver or a tenner. I also collect the old IA FW books and HH blackbooks.
So that's who it's marketed towards. People like me who love the 40k universe and want something much higher quality to display.
