To celebrate the new range of Citadel Colour paints, we’re marking the occasion in style with a new type of painting competition – a global event that you can enter locally in stores across the world, and with a prize worthy of a king…
On Saturday the 27th of July, Warhammer and Games Workshop stores, as well as participating independent retailers, will be holding a local painting competition. The winner of the Everchosen category (see below) from each store will have photos of their models uploaded to a huge gallery online, where everyone can vote for their favorite entries. The results of the public vote will then be combined with the votes from our own studio painting teams, with the top three entries being entered into the Everchosen Grand Final. These finalists will be invited to bring their miniatures to Warhammer World from wherever they are in the world – we’ll even cover their travel and accommodation. One of these mighty painting heroes will be crowned Everchosen, and win a replica of Archaon’s legendary sword, the Slayer of Kings.
PAINTING CATEGORIES There are actually two other categories of the painting competition that will be taking place in stores on the day, in addition to the gala Everchosen category:
Open – Entries can any miniature currently available from Games-Workshop.com, unit or collection than will fit into a 30cmx30cm (12”x12”) display area. This category is also open to Games Workshop staff!
Young Bloods – Entries can any single Citadel miniature (of any size) that is available from Games-Workshop.com. This category is only open to painters aged 15 and below.
Everchosen – Entries can any single Citadel miniature (that fits on a Citadel 60mm base or smaller) that is currently available from Games-Workshop.com. The winner of the Everchosen category will go on to represent their store in the global online vote!
We’ll be bringing you more news on this exciting competition (including the obligatory terms and conditions) soon, so keep an eye here on the Warhammer Community website for more details. "anyone who comes into the store during the First Vote will be asked to submit one vote for their favourite model". So basically you need to be there with your entry the moment the store opens on the 27th, or you'll be losing possible votes of people that arrived before you. Seems a bit broken but I guess it would be more of a hassle to organize, otherwise.
We had that little local GW yearly competition last year. The guy who won had primed models on his not-so-nicely-done scenic base. However had enough buddies at the store giving him votes that he won over some actual painted armies. The GW manager got a heap of personal messages via Facebook about how garbage that was, but she's not one to challenge anybody over anything.
Obviously this won't happen at every store, but it's very easily prone to being rigged by a concerted recruitment effort. A painting competition should never be a popularity contest.

Considering that the only thing that winning the First Vote gets you is you're model uploaded for the Second Vote (where it's likely to get nothing but scorn and ridicule from the community) it would be pointless to even attempt to rig the First Vote. That said, we'll probably see at least a few models where this may have happened...

Well it's not pointless if you just want bragging rights - and by doing so, you actually vote out some quality paintjobs and screw them over. Just saying...it happens.
If it's currently available in one material (or was a recent made To Order release), I doubt they're going to care if you've got one that looks identical but is actually metal.
I thought it would be judges + public vote at the earlier stages too.
