Captain, the gold trim on that rear door is fabulous, as is the paint in general. Nicely done! Everyone else, great work... lots of ambitious undertakings here.

Progress on the three Rhinos: painted, body washed with Biel-tan, tracks washed with Nuln, assembled (all three, only one pictured), and I made my way back to the big box o' sprues to find some stormbolters and missile launchers. Next up: maybe some targeted repainting of those top hatches, some etched brass fluer de lis, and possibly an attempt to salvage some warped FW doors for some iconography.

I think my first time doing terrain is not going to be suitable for this challenge. Its going to be a old tin shack sort of a thing and i think it wont make sense to be here, and i feel its going to maybe look very gak.

So ill just stick to blogs for this month and join the next months challenge.

Some good stuff coming in so far, I'll get the OP updated soon. In the mean time, some exciting news from the winner's vote thread:

Speaking of winners, we've also got some big news regarding the future of the challenge: After 4 and a half years, I've been given the go-ahead to drop the 'unofficial' part of our title and going forward, this will be known as the Dakka Painting Challenge!* This also comes with a little sponsorship from the Higher Ups, in the form of our first prize support. For the 2019/20 rotation of the League ending next March, the overall winner for the year will be receiving a set of six (6) of these lovely Dakka Dice, usually only available to those with DCM membership:

This won't change anything about how the challenge is run, but there's now a little token of victory for the overall victor which should spur on the competition in those final months of the League's rotation! Also want to say a quick thanks to the mod ingtaer for getting all this cleared with Yakface and sorting out the prize dice!

*to avoid confusion, though, term 'official' will still be reserved for actual site-run events.

Oh you are right hahaha, awesome. Ill add it in then, but yeah its going to look like those old tin shacks you find in alot of so called "3rd world" countries so im not sure people will like the simplicity of it since its not exactly going to be Buckingham Palace in terms of design if you catch my flow.

Ok i enter this( first time ever trying to build some thing for any thing )... its basically nothing at all, i have only made some wood using some foam from a vaporizer packaging i got recently. I got the idea for the card board off YouTube, but the foam wood design and etc i just thought of my self but im sure its been done before. Took me a long time to get those little bits of card board cleaned up ( lots of scraping fluffy parts off to make it seem more like metal and not fluffy metal ).

Any way i have heaps to do lol, so yeah. I dont have a plan, im just doing it and desinging at the same time lol. I have a rough idea of what im doing in my head.

NOTE - Obviously i am going to add alot more objects etc to it, im just thiking how to build them, like a barrel for example, or a tire.

Finished. Wanted to get some name plates for the plinth but I don't think I'll get that done this month. This model was a blast to paint. I love these models with a slightly different flavour to the usual GW, figure in action pose with weapons. Tried to evoke a WW2 Battle of Britain vibe.

Here is a progress update. Made the "weeds" and door hinges with green stuff and card board. Going to add more weeds or some thing, then add grounding. The grounding will cover the green stuff on the bottom. Will look better after that. Metal mesh is mosquitoes netting. The barrel is rolled up paper. And the wood is foam.

Trying to put those individual "weed" strands in was like performing brain surgery or some thing like that lol. I need to re shape them a bit so they are not drooping so much and look better.

So, gonna try doing something bigger this month, but admitedly, probably a bit late given how slow I go, may end up with a swapout.
Gonna try to turn these bits into a nice chariot bourne Harbringer for WarGods of Aegyptus.

Where we're at today, given I had to redo the whole basket to fit the harbringer (spear dude) and his base as the rules let you dismount him:

Great work from everyone posting so far. Looking forward to seeing how that knight comes out.

Some progress from me. Done basing the green and metal and just washed it. Weathering next then details.

As always feedback is very much welcome.

Every spare second of my life is being devoted to the knight. Work continues apace, but I'm dreading the application of transfers. When I've applied transfers before, I'd painted the surface with gloss varnish first, and then used matte varnish afterwards to kill the shine. I don't want to do this because it would ruin the finish I've got on the armour. Is it easy enough to apply transfers without using any varnish? Can you just use Microset and Microsol?

Also, do you guys want to see a WIP pic or two?

Bodt

You don't need gloss varnish to put transfers down, that's a fallacy. Putting them straight over paint will be fine. It probably helps on super curved SM shoulder pads but on big flat knight panels it will be fine.

Some WIP pics.

I actually took the proof pic on the 7th, so a week and a half ago. On the Saturday,10th Aug, I started the airbrushing process, nervous as I have no idea how to airbrush and have only ever really used it for zenithal priming and the odd all-over basecoat. never for actually pointing at specific parts of a model. By the end of the day it looked like this:

You can see on the shoulder guard closest to the top what I was doing. Everything got sprayed silver (GW Ironhands airbrush paint) then the general shadows were sprayed with a clear blue (Calth Blue Clear) and the deepest shadows a clear green over the top (Mortarian Green Clear). I then used Angron Red Clear in a number of thin coats. You can see in the above photo how badly this went at times. I couldn't get the consistency right, or the pressure. In the end I kept adding coats!

I continued this on the Sunday and started repainting the silver banding and mechanical parts. This was very time consuming, but painting most of the day I ended up with this:

One reason I was spending so much time painting was that I needed to relax after earlier in the week my car broke down on the way home from my parents' house. Broke down terminally - it has traveled it's last journey. So inbetween painting, I was buying a new car.

Between then and Friday just gone, I did some weathering and highlighting on the metal parts, tinting them blue, making them oily, edge highlighting about four miles of armour plating edges, plus I airbrushed the bronze bit of the carapace. On Friday it looked like this:

I worked on Saturday and we had guests over today, so I've not done a great deal more than that. Thoughts so far? Is there anything glaringly wrong, or that I desparately need to do?
