Subject: Dakka Painting Challenge Round 54 August 2019: Metal and Wheels
Welcome all to the 54th round of the Unofficial Painting challenge. For those who haven't seen the challenge before, it is a community-focused friendly competition open to anyone on the site, regardless of your skill level or experience. Every round contributes towards a League table, which ultimately means nothing but is a lot of fun to keep an eye on and jockey for position with Dakka's other painters. Just as a heads up, I'm still a bit busy at the minute, so updates might be a bit slow, so don't panic if your entries don't show up in the OP immediately!
This month, the theme is Metal and Wheels and the march of technology. Your entry should include those who favour industry and technology over the natural forces of the world, whether that manifests itself as clanking war machines, armoured vehicles or advanced weaponry ect.
How To Enter
- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 5 images and one separate image would count as your 6 picture allowance.
So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.
These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.
How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st of August and will end at midnight UK time on the 31st of August. After this, We shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.
I'm kind of stumped on what to do so I'll going to give it out for the thread to pick.

I will paint my razorback, will give me a chance to test out contrast, needs to be filled with miliput to smooth some surface rash and gaps. 10years is long enough not being painted
Will be painting a hunter/stalker. Pics when I get home.
Very unlikely to get all the bits and bobs done for the alternate builds, as I’ll be away from my bench for 2 weeks this month. But stalker/hunter/command tank, with a spare HK/SB driver.

I'll be entering a custom Repulsor Executioner when it arrives. Gonna try and tone down some of the bizarre weapon placements, into something more like a modern (functional ) MBT....
I will be entering a Sisters of Battle Repressor. Going to be a crunch as I have two weeks to finish while painting other models. [Then things worked out so quick I am adding a Rhino]

Note: as the Repressor went very fast I have decided to do a Sister's of Battle Rhino as well. Proof of NoS Rhino and then the primed model beside the Repressor before bling is added.

I guess I’ll go ahead and enter this month again as well. I just ordered the Warhammer Underworlds Profiteers yesterday and hopefully they will be in this weekend. Steampunk dwarves are all about technology and piss on magic.

Looks like a lot of Orky stuff this month - nice! I always enjoy seeing some creative greenskins.
I could easily pick an Engine of Vaul this month, but since I did my Warp Hunter for June, and because I don't want to over-submit my eldar stuff I think I'll go for a Corvus Blackstar.
I've not quite decided yet whether I'll glue the various options on, or leave them and paint them separately - they're all a decent enough push fit even without magnets.
Technically this one doesn't exactly have wheels, as people in Star Wars don't seem to actually know what those are half the time, but it certainly fulfils the other bit! Still a bit of work to do and I need to get some better pics, but after an afternoon's work I think it's in a good place.
I wanted this one to look lived-in and beat to hell even by the standards of OT-era Star Wars, as being a Clone Wars vehicle it'd be getting on for 30-40 years old by the time the Rebels get round to using them! Also swapped the pilot's head out for a Scout Trooper head that came spare in the Legion core set to further lean into the idea of the Rebels taking every piece of hand-me-down gear they can get. Not sure if that was a mistake or whether you're meant to have a spare head in there, but either way, works for me!
In terms of the paintwork, I tried for a lot of texture work here, again to lend that aged and clunky feel. Surprisingly quick on account of that as well, which is always nice. Still needs a few touchups, so if anyone has any suggestions for improvements I'm all ears!

WIP. Nice to paint something that's not armour. I love these types of models too.. Guys that aren't warriors holding weapons, but other characters you'd find in the universe in non combat poses.

Lots of awesome projects underway here... this'll be fun to watch! As it happens, my next painting priority is a good fit, so I'm in. These three Rhinos (maybe one Immolator, if I can find the turret rings and gunner somewhere in my bits box) are the last models in my Sisters army. I finished the last of the infantry a few weeks ago, and this will finish the armor, at least until the Codex and new plastics arrive. Here goes!
Well I just bought a ton of Drukhari, and need to set the pace to paint. So I'll start small and enter a Raider this month. No wheels, but lots of metal and movement. Here's to hoping I can break my curse of not finishing

Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.
